While Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) is under siege over a number of disturbing sexual abuse allegations as he struggles to keep his campaign for California governor alive, another rising Democratic star from Maryland is facing some headwinds of his own. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D), whose handlers like to portray him as the next Barack Obama, is said to be a contender for the Democrat presidential nomination in 2028. Except Moore has a problem – his past seems to be already catching up with him. For a Democrat, that in itself is really a non-issue. If the party doesn’t want your past to catch up with you, it won’t.

Frequently, wise-sounding aphorisms get misattributed to Albert Einstein. Anytime there's a list of anything, there are going to be people who want to view that list for whatever reason. As we are firmly in the 21st century, that list is going to be digital more often than not, and that means the number of people who want to get that data increases exponentially. Especially when it's something like a gun registry. Luckily, federal law bars the federal government from creating a gun registry, though let's be real here. If they change their minds, they'll repeal the law in a heartbeat. It won't stop them.

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger has signed a bill to circumvent the electoral college and have Virginia become a member of a compact between states that are looking to give their Electoral College votes to the presidential candidate that wins the popular vote instead of the candidate that voters from the state choose. Spanberger signed HB965 into law, which would effectively null and void votes cast in Virginia itself and only give its Electoral College votes to the nationwide popular vote winner. The compact between the states, however, will not go into effect until there are enough states in the compact to reach 270 electoral votes.
