The City of Chicago instituted its Checkout Bag Tax in 2017. When introduced, allegedly to reduce the use of grocery bags to protect the environment, the charge was seven cents per bag. It was raised to ten cents per bag in 2025, and was most recently increased to fifteen cents per bag on Jan. 1, 2026. Before we look into these ideas in detail, let’s consider that history. A decade ago, Chicago did not have a bag tax. Then they started in 2017 with seven cents, liked it, and increased that number by 43% last year. Then this year,

Decades ago, I was a cashier at an Aldi's in NJ. A young Hispanic man came thru my line to buy a bunch of paper bags at 3 cents each. Something like 30 bags. I asked him why he needed the bags. He said that he was moving. He was so thrilled with his decision to buy bags that I didn't suggest the free cardboard boxes.

I would ask them to throw the items back into the cart, and box them myself at the car.

It reads like a Hollywood script: FBI agents engaged in “Operation Hard Money” raided a Tinseltown mansion last week and took almost a dozen bad guys who were allegedly ripping off elderly folks into custody. Hopefully, the title of the film will be “Hard Time”: FBI agents raided a Hollywood mansion early Thursday, arresting a suspect in pajamas in a raid tied to an alleged $17.4 million mortgage fraud scheme targeting elderly homeowners. Prosecutors said the scheme resulted in about $6 million in actual losses, with 11 suspects — including an Iranian and Azerbaijani national — accused of stealing victims’ identities,

Four ambulances belonging to a Jewish volunteer group and parked by a London synagogue were set on fire early Monday – and an Iranian-backed militant group is claiming responsibility for the attacks. Terror organization Ashab al-Yamin, “the People of the Right” in Arabic, admitted responsibility in a video it purportedly created — and UK counter-terror cops are investigating whether Tehran orchestrated the attacks in the neighborhood of Golders Green, according to the Telegraph. Israeli embassy sources told the outlet that the firebomb attacks carried out on Hatzola – a volunteer ambulance service—

A ground stop was issued at Newark Airport Monday morning after the air traffic control tower was evacuated due to smoke — just hours following the shutdown at LaGuardia Airport because of a fatal plane crash. Air traffic controllers are being moved to a backup facility on site at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey after a burning smell was detected, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. “Arrivals and departures are temporarily paused at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey after air traffic controllers evacuated the tower because of a burning smell coming from an elevator,” the FAA said in a statement.

How many more times will this have to happen before Democrats stop defending and sheltering criminals? In the latest outrage, one Sheridan Gorman, a 19-year-old student from New York who was attending Chicago's Loyola University, was shot to death near the Loyola campus last Thursday, and now an illegal alien from Venezuela has been arrested for her senseless, unprovoked murder. A Venezuelan migrant was arrested in connection with the execution-style murder of a New York teen on a night stroll with friends near Loyola University Chicago’s campus on Thursday, according to reports.

Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at airports could “brutalize” or “kill” Americans. A “parents council” the Biden administration promoted as bipartisan was built behind the scenes with ideologically aligned groups, according to internal emails, undercutting its bipartisan claim. Biden's Department of Education framed the National Parents and Families Engagement Council as a coalition meant to reflect a wide range of parent voices during the post-COVID recovery. “The National Parents and Families Engagement Council will help ensure recovery efforts meet students’ needs.” The internal emails, "obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the U.S. Department of Education (ED)," tell a different story. They show officials working with outside organizations to shape the council’s membership,

In 2022, California Gov. Gavin Newsom broke ground on the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing (WAWC), a project featuring an overpass for animals atop ten lanes of the 101 Freeway in Southern California. At the ceremony, Newsom boasted that the state had committed $54 million. He promised to “complete the job within another $10 million,” before seeming to hedge on whether that final sum would do the trick. Officials projected a 2025 completion date for the overpass, and estimated that the entire project — which includes the bridge and other ancillary developments — would cost $92 million, some of it coming from private philanthropists.

In recent months, even recent years, we've seen too many one-man crime waves released to the streets by squishy, crook-friendly judges. These goblins are sometimes only back on the streets for a matter of hours before resuming their predations. Well, in Las Vegas, one top cop has decided enough is enough. Confronted with a release order form Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Eric Goodman to release one Joshua Sanchez-Lopez, a crook with 35 arrests to his name, Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill took a simple yet powerful step: He refused to comply with the release order, citing the safety of the public.

An Air Canada flight arriving at LaGuardia Airport crashed into a rescue truck on Sunday night — leaving two pilots dead and two Port Authority cops seriously injured, according to sources. Emergency vehicles swarmed Runway 4 at the Queens airport after a regional jet en route from Montreal struck a rescue truck responding to a separate incident just before 11:40 p.m., according to the Port Authority Police Department, the FDNY, and footage captured by the Citizen App. Images showed the front of the commuter plane smashed and tilting in the air. Sources told The Post that the pilot and copilot aboard the crashed jet were killed.

This is one heck of an explosive viral story. It starts with claims about low-IQ Africans and just takes off from there. It all started when an Africa-based research team decided to challenge and prove wrong a very long-standing claim in Western circles about low IQ levels in African countries. Instead of continuing to argue about it, they decided to put these claims to the test. They conducted a large-scale IQ assessment in Lagos, Nigeria, with a mixed bag of participants over the age of 16.The results were not what they wanted and are what’s going viral. As it turns out, those “Western circles” were right all along.

The damning response comes as Chicago Alderwoman Maria Hadden suggested Gorman and her friends may have unintentionally startled the armed suspect. "The kids were out doing normal things people do in the neighborhood," Hadden told Fox 32. "They may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, running into a person who had a gun." When I was about 12 or 13, I had a friend who was fun to be with. When we were in my house or hers, we’d talk endlessly about our schoolmates, our teachers, her mother’s illness, and boys, boys, boys. But whenever we went outside, she would start counting. “What are you doing?” I would ask. “Counting my steps,” she responded. “Why?” She stopped walking to answer me, so she wouldn’t lose count. “I just have to count them,” she said. “I can’t stop counting them.” At that age, I had never even heard the word obsession,

The Supreme Court ‘s conservative majority on Monday sounded skeptical of state laws that allow the counting of late-arriving mail ballots, a persistent target of President Donald Trump. The court heard arguments in a case from Mississippi that also could affect voters in 13 other states and the District of Columbia, which have grace periods for ballots cast by mail. An additional 15 states that have more forgiving deadlines for ballots from military and overseas voters also could be impacted. A ruling is expected by late June, early enough to govern the counting of ballots in the 2026 midterm congressional elections.

By far the most clueless of them has been Megyn Kelly.
