The Senate Homeland Security Committee voted Thursday to advance Senator Markwayne Mullin’s nomination to serve as the next Homeland Security secretary, with Democratic Senator John Fetterman crossing party lines to give Mullin the deciding vote.
Mullin was able to overcome staunch opposition from committee Chair Rand Paul (R., Ky.), who questioned the Oklahoma Republican’s fitness for the role, describing him as “a man with anger issues.”
Now that Mullin’s nomination has successfully advanced out of committee, he is expected to be confirmed by the full Senate despite opposition from Democrats who have raised questions about an overseas trip Mullin says he took to a combat zone several years ago.

Cali Dems thought they had everything all figured out. They had a plan, and it was working like a finely oiled machine.
Until it suddenly wasn’t. Years ago, Dems rolled out the “top-two” primary system with one assumption baked in for good measure: no matter what happens, two Democrats would likely always make it to the general election. It was supposed to lock in control, sideline Republicans, and keep everything nice and predictable.
And for a while, sure, it worked.
But these kinds of machines only work if your side stays disciplined. You need a clear front-runner, maybe two, and everyone else falls in line.
But that’s not what’s happening now.

The Democrats oppose voter ID laws and are in favor of mail-in voting, while calling Republicans fascists for not agreeing with them.
However, a review of voting laws around the world shows that the overwhelming majority of countries, at least 176 nations and jurisdictions, require voter ID.
Many have no mail-in voting at all, while others allow only very limited domestic mail-in voting restricted to those who are hospitalized, and no country allows illegal aliens to vote.
While a small number of countries permit long-term legal residents to vote in local elections under strict residency conditions, even fewer allow non-citizen residents to vote in national elections.

California lawmakers said Thursday they planned to change the name of “César Chavez Day” to “Farmworkers Day” after sexual abuse allegations against the late civil rights leader arose earlier this week.
The New York Times reported Wednesday that Chavez had groomed and sexually abused young girls within the labor rights movement while he served as leader of the United Farm Workers Union. One of those women was Dolores Huerta, who co-founded the union with Chavez in 1962.
Huerta came forward this week with allegations that she was victimized by Chavez in her 30s.

Does Election Day actually mean Election Day?
That’s the key issue the U.S. Supreme Court is going to consider when it holds oral arguments in a pivotal elections case next week.Known as Watson v. RNC, the legal dispute centers around a challenge to a Mississippi law allowing election officials to accept mail-in ballots up to five business days after Election Day so long as they are postmarked on or before the day of the contest. The issue of accepting late-arriving ballots has become a prominent issue in elections in recent years, with more than a dozen states permitting such a practice.

Given Iran’s half century of cruel barbarism in the Middle East, it’s hard to understand why the Democrats seem to be rooting for them in the current war. I have two theories.
One is the obvious one. The Dems are not so much rooting for Iran, as rooting against Iran’s enemy. Bad as Iran is, its enemy is even worse in the eyes of the Dems.
Iran’s enemy, you see – or at least the Dems see – has a history of its own cruel barbarism going back to at least 1619. Iran’s enemy has engaged in genocide against native people. Iran’s enemy has wrongly oppressed workers of the world

A “parents council” the Biden administration promoted as bipartisan was built behind the scenes with ideologically aligned groups, according to internal emails, undercutting its bipartisan claim.
Biden's Department of Education framed the National Parents and Families Engagement Council as a coalition meant to reflect a wide range of parent voices during the post-COVID recovery.
“The National Parents and Families Engagement Council will help ensure recovery efforts meet students’ needs.”
The internal emails, "obtained through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the U.S. Department of Education (ED)," tell a different story. They show officials working with outside organizations to shape the council’s membership,

Roughly 200,000 immigrant truck drivers in the United States are set to lose their commercial driver's licenses (CDLs) this week under a new Trump administration rule that went into effect Monday to keep illegal immigrants off the road. Under the rule, non-citizens, including asylum seekers, refugees, and recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), will no longer be eligible to obtain CDLs, even if they are legally authorized to work in the United States. Those who already hold licenses will not be able to renew them when they expire.

Democrats have kept the Department of Homeland Security shuttered since mid-February because they were outraged that two Americans were killed by ICE agents while interfering with their work.
Since then, terrorists have claimed four American lives – a number that could have been significantly higher had fortune not prevailed.
So, where are the protests over these deaths?
“What’s happening in Minnesota is appalling — and unacceptable in any American city,” is how Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer justified his party’s decision to force the DHS closure. Democrats are insisting on a raft of ICE “reforms,”

In 2022, California Gov. Gavin Newsom broke ground on the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing (WAWC), a project featuring an overpass for animals atop ten lanes of the 101 Freeway in Southern California.
At the ceremony, Newsom boasted that the state had committed $54 million. He promised to “complete the job within another $10 million,” before seeming to hedge on whether that final sum would do the trick.
Officials projected a 2025 completion date for the overpass, and estimated that the entire project — which includes the bridge and other ancillary developments — would cost $92 million, some of it coming from private philanthropists.

Most Americans before Feb. 1 had little to no awareness of the particulars of Pima County, Arizona, which is in part of the state bordering our neighbor, Mexico. The second largest city in AZ, Tucson, is located in Pima County, though, and during the first days of February, the whole country became intimately familiar with the tale of one resident in particular. You know who I mean: Nancy Guthrie. And in recent days, the tale has taken a political turn unrelated to the alleged abduction case.

In this first episode, I go in-depth on a story currently rocking Northern Virginia – a 19-year-old illegal from El Salvador has been arrested for groping at least nine teen girls at a local high school. He's in custody .. for now. Democrats, of course, want him back on the streets and in the school hallways to assault more victims.
Let's chat about it. To walk through the facts, I bounced off the reporting

It seems impossible that a man like Tom Steyer could have a realistic chance at being one of the two top finishers in California’s June 2 jungle primary. But Steyer, like the other seven Democrats and two Republicans that are running viable campaigns in the crowded race, doesn’t have to appeal to a very large percentage of voters to come out in first or second place. He’s up against several politicians with durable constituencies, splitting the vote so thoroughly that it is conceivable that the top performer could win with only around 20 percent of the vote.

There are few things worse than someone who has had everything handed to them who acts like they’ve somehow earned all of it. We say these people “were born on 3rd base and act like they hit a triple.” I don’t have a problem with inherited wealth, but that, coupled with a sense of entitlement, is too much form. I call it the “Lucky Sperm Syndrome” – the people whose greatest, and often only, accomplishment in life is that they were the sperm that cracked the egg. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker comes to mind.

Diversity is our strength.’ One hears this, or myriad variants of the same idea, unrelentingly. Certainly I work in an Australian university where the extent of higher-ups pushing this notion does indeed qualify as unrelenting, even matching totalitarian state levels of propaganda. But even outside the hallowed halls of impartial, politically balanced academia (did I write that with a straight face?) the mantra or cliché that diversity somehow delivers a stronger balance sheet or a more cohesive society or just better outcomes is pervasive in today’s democracies that have committed themselves to multiculturalism and to the various neo-Marxist versions of feminism. Since 2019, nearly two dozen states — most of them blue states — have vowed to transition their grids to run without generators powered by fossil fuels within the next 24 years.
While Democrats have often been vocal supporters of these efforts, President Donald Trump’s energy policies have produced a direct challenge to net-zero plans. Outside the political sphere, independent assessments find the nation’s grid is becoming increasingly fragile, primarily a direct result of an overreliance on weather-dependent renewables.
This has led to a rapid shift in the conversation on energy in America.

Iran intensified its attacks on its Gulf Arab neighbors’ energy infrastructure Thursday, setting Qatari liquified natural gas facilities ablaze as it hit back following an Israeli attack on its main natural gas field, a major escalation in the Mideast war that has sent global fuel prices soaring.
A ship burned off the coast of the United Arab Emirates and another was damaged off of Qatar, underscoring the ever-present danger facing vessels due to Iran’s stranglehold on the Strait of Hormuz.
Qatar, a key source of natural gas for world markets, said firefighters had put out a blaze at a major LNG facility after it had been hit by Iranian missile attacks.

Here's something I doubt many people had on their bingo card. A new poll released today shows two Republicans leading the California race for governor.
Despite a long, entrenched Democratic reign over California politics, a new poll shows two Republicans leading by slim margins in the state’s 2026 race for governor as the June primary election fast approaches.
The confounding results appear to be mostly due to the state’s left-leaning electorate feeling uninspired by any single candidate in the crowded field of eight top Democrats. Because of California’s top-two primary rule, that lethargy could lead to Democrats being shut out

Has the progressive Left finally hit its high-water mark? Even in deep-blue Illinois?
Yesterday, the state that launched Barack Obama's presidency and created Chicago's socialist decline went to the primary polls to nominate midterm candidates. As usual, progressives competed heavily for House and Senate seats, as well as in state legislative races. Most unusually, Axios reports, hard-Left candidates appear to have lost every competitive race in which they contended, running campaigns that featured attacks on Israel as well as Hakeem Jeffries:
The left suffered a virtually total collapse in the Illinois Democratic congressional primaries on Tuesday night — even in races where the AIPAC-backed candidate lost.

Democrats across the country were watching the primaries in Illinois on Tuesday, trying to read the tea leaves to see what might happen in other federal contests.
What happened was that Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker impressively flexed his political muscle and brought several progressive candidates to victory, all of whom identified with the mainstream Democratic Party in Washington, D.C.
Candidates who railed against Israel and were backed by radical groups like the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) and Justice Democrats were buried in what may presage a backlash against the crazies within the Democratic Party.
