Yesterday, the state that launched Barack Obama's presidency and created Chicago's socialist decline went to the primary polls to nominate midterm candidates. As usual, progressives competed heavily for House and Senate seats, as well as in state legislative races. Most unusually, Axios reports, hard-Left candidates appear to have lost every competitive race in which they contended, running campaigns that featured attacks on Israel as well as Hakeem Jeffries: The left suffered a virtually total collapse in the Illinois Democratic congressional primaries on Tuesday night — even in races where the AIPAC-backed candidate lost.

There were some great moments between Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and President Donald Trump during their meetings and dinner on Thursday.
They worked on the question of resolving any issues in the Strait of Hormuz. Japan signed onto the allies' coalition statement issued earlier in the day.
The relationship is certainly blooming well. Takaichi confirmed that with a gift of 250 more cherry trees to the U.S. for our 250th birthday. The cherry trees from Japan in D.C. are famous and beautiful.

A US F-35 fighter jet was forced to make an emergency landing at a US air base in the Middle East after being struck by what is believed to be Iranian fire, CNN reported on Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the matter.
Iranian media claimed the IRGC was behind the hit shortly after.
According to Capt. Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for US Central Command, the F-35 was "flying a combat mission over Iran" when it was struck and was forced to make an emergency landing.
"The aircraft landed safely, and the pilot is in stable condition," CNN quoted Hawkins as saying.
"The incident is under investigation," Hawkins added.
The Senate Homeland Security Committee voted Thursday to advance Senator Markwayne Mullin’s nomination to serve as the next Homeland Security secretary, with Democratic Senator John Fetterman crossing party lines to give Mullin the deciding vote.
Mullin was able to overcome staunch opposition from committee Chair Rand Paul (R., Ky.), who questioned the Oklahoma Republican’s fitness for the role, describing him as “a man with anger issues.”

CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten dismissed the narrative of a MAGA split Wednesday with polls showing President Trump is enjoying 100% support from his Republican base.

In 2018, then-White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was eating at the Red Hen in Lexington when the owners asked her to leave because of her politics. It was a huge controversy (and not to be confused with the September incident when President Trump and those who were with him were harassed by protesters at the D.C. eatery with the same name).
That Red Hen location closed permanently in 2023.
