The Senate voted 51–47 on Oct. 30 in favor of the joint resolution, S.J. Res. 88, introduced by Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).. (snip)Sen. FTA: Despite the outcome, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is unlikely to bring these resolutions to the floor for a vote. Vice President JD Vance, following his meeting with Senate Republicans, stated that these votes are a “huge mistake,” as tariffs provide the president with leverage to “put American workers first.”

Doesn't mean much since the House isn't voting on these and Trump would likely veto. What this does do is illustrate for SCOTUS that Congress gave Trump the authority to use the tariffs under the emergency declaration since the decided to vote to remove that tool he was able to use for negotiating new trade deals that will benefit the citizens of the United States.

Question for Democrats and confused "Republicans": Why is it that only American tariffs harm businesses while foreogn tariffs are apparently just fine and somehow have no effect on prices or businesses? They don't hink high foreign tariffs and trade barriers on American made goods harm American businesses? Are they really that clueless or do they just disagree with Trump because they hate him.

It’s all a political ploy by Republicans. They can say that there against it then say their for it when the numbers look good. They do this sort of thing all the time when they know it won’t mean anything because it takes the House and of course there is the veto which a divided Congress can’t override. Pure political theater. Democrats did the opposite thing with a clean CR, voting for it now against it.

President Trump was quoted before the elections last year in saying, "Tariff is the most beautiful word in the English language;" however, the word came from Arabic (ta’arifeh) and was picked up by Europeans, passed to the English by Italian and other Mediterranean merchant traders as a trade import tax imposed by governments. Our Constitution does not use the word "tariff," a most international word, but uses the descriptive American English synonyms of the 18th century. Please read Article I, Section 8 of our Constitution to clear up any tariff-related misconceptions: "The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises (collectively tariffs), to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence (sp) and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States." Since 1788, when the Constitution was ratified, the text of Article I remains the supreme Law of the Land, unless or until changed by the Constitutional Amendment process. Art.I, Sec 8 uses uncharacteristically plain language, brief and direct. The first clue as to which branch was specifically Constitutionally empowered to lay and collect tariffs is that the power was not placed in Article II, which defines powers and duties of the Executive Branch. Like all tax and spend matters, including borrowing, such power was placed in Article I, exclusive to the Legislative Branch (The Congress). Trump's claimed tariff powers are based on democrat enacted statutes, signed into law by democrat presidents, which gives the Executive Branch a role in laying and collecting tariffs that our Constitution specifically does not. No Constitutional Amendment has ever been proposed to give the president the power to "Lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises," so as of 2025, the tariff power remains exclusively with Congress. That is not to say that Trump is ineffective in his 2025 Tariff manipulations but rather pointing out that our Constitution was very specific in delegating that power to the deliberative body that is our Congress. All federal workers, including military and the president, must swear an oath to preserve, protect, and defend our Constitution, although many willingly turn a blind eye to the Constitution vis-a-vis President Trump's claim of Tariff power. If any public law can supersede the actual language of the Constitution, then some future democrat passed public law can take away or significantly water down any or all of the first ten Amendments, our Bill of Rights, without affirmatively following the amendment process given us by the Framers. The democrats would love to eliminate the 2nd Amendment once they regain control of Congress and the White House. Those are the stakes at play, not 'Trump can get us a better deal if he, alone, controls tariffs.'

Amid a long-running shutdown, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) has consistently defended the filibuster. That center has so far held. Republican-backed continuing resolution has failed to net the 60 votes needed to avert a filibuster, prompting some Republicans to flirt with the idea of altering it—a move last pursued by Democrats during the Biden administration.Yet despite some chatter a few days ago, lawmakers who spoke with The Epoch Times have mostly remained skeptical of such a maneuver. Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) told reporters on Oct. 23 that the nuclear option—another term for a Senate rules change to sidestep the filibuster—would be “a mistake.” Also on Oct 23, Sen. One of America’s most iconic cities appears to have fallen to the radical Islamist left thanks to unfettered immigration from hostile foreign nations. On Thursday, a viral video emerged showing 35-year-old Minnesota Democratic State Senator and mayoral candidate Omar Fateh, a Muslim and son of Somali migrants, smiling and waving his native country’s flag. The footage appears to be from a rally held by Fateh in August at the Brian Coyle Community Center in Minneapolis. As one can see, he pledges his complete loyalty to Somalia while speaking in either Somali or Arabic and urging his fans to vote for him in November. Can you believe this is happening in America?

Dear former President Barack Obama, During former Vice President Kamala Harris' 2024 presidential campaign, you chastised "the brothers" for what you perceived as their reluctance to vote for a black female. You said: "We have not yet seen the same kinds of energy and turnout in all corners of our neighborhoods and communities as we saw when I was running. Now, I also want to say that that seems to be more pronounced with the brothers." Did you tell "the brothers" who, for the sake of racial solidarity, you tried to shame into voting for Harris that you only believe in left-wing racial solidarity?

I would lose my home, my job, and my children."
