Here in America, the Springsteen biopic opened to a truly dreadful $9.1 million. With billions more customers available overseas and Springsteen’s status as a global superstar, you’d think that’s where the money is.Nope. The movie only scooped up another $7 million internationally, which means that its overall global take was a measly $16 million. How bad is that?Well, box office analysts believed the worst it would do just here in America was $15 million, and it ended up only barely topping the domestic worst-case scenario all over the world. Is this a case of “Go woke, go broke?” Well, as I wrote on Sunday,

Perhaps the poor showing has something to do with the fact that Springsteen is an obnoxious ass and can’t sing.

Springsteen is kind of the rock-n-roll equivalent to Robert DeNiro. Both have morphed into aging TDS-addled dwarves. I grew up during Bruce's "glory days" and for what it's worth never much cared from him, but that is neither here nor there. What matters more is that he once had legions of fans, and it appears many of them no longer care for him either.

Springsteen has written some excellent songs through the years, but as #9 writes, "Springsteen is kind of the rock-n-roll equivalent to Robert DeNiro." That is so true. It was always important to Bruce to be fashionably left, and so he is. His leftism is more important to him than his art. What a shame. "Born in the USA" was not a patriotic song. When I first heard it some forty years ago, I began disliking Bruce. If Disney takes an expensive bath on this film, that's a good thing. Get woke, go broke. I have a large collection of music. Springsteen's not in it.

Mamdani’s mother, Mira Nair, made the remarks in a 2013 interview with the Hindustan Times when she was asked about her then-21-year-old son’s upbringing. “He is a total desi,” Nair told the outlet, referring to the Hindi and Urdu term used to describe those of Indian descent.Completely. Now he tells us, after he long joined other climate alarmists in warning of “disaster,” as the West burned trillions on “decarbonizing” and steered economies toward the stone age. The “doomsday view” that “cataclysmic climate change will decimate civilization” is “wrong,” the Microsoft co-founder writes; people will “be able to live and thrive in most places on Earth for the foreseeable future.” His 2021 book “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster” somehow missed these truths; he predictied instead that global warming “could be worse” than COVID.

One aspect of the government shutdown that probably wasn’t anticipated by Chuck Schumer and other Democrats, is that it has revealed to the public just how many people receive food stamps. Years ago, when the program was still called ‘food stamps’ it was seen as something that struggling families might use temporarily to get through a hard time. Then it was re-branded as the ‘SNAP’ program and destigmatized. People were encouraged to enroll. Now there are many more people using the program, many who probably don’t even really need it. The longer the shutdown goes on, the more reports there are about this and it’s stunning to taxpayers

Congress is barreling toward a critical deadline for extending the enhanced ObamaCare subsidies at the heart of the government shutdown, and it may already be too late to shield the public from sticker shock with open-enrollment window shopping underway. If somehow there is a deal done ahead of Nov.1, which looks unlikely, states and the federal government may still have time to incorporate the enhanced subsidies into their prices. But Republicans have made it clear that there will need to be changes to the tax credits before they even entertain an extension.
