A 15-year-old boy and his father were “beaten, handcuffed and forced to sign documents” after being arrested Monday in Durango by federal immigration officers, the boy’s mother told an immigrant services nonprofit. Estela Patiño said she spoke with her son, Kewin Daniel Patiño Bustamante, in a phone call shortly after 10 p.m. Monday – the last time she has heard from him as of Wednesday morning, according to Compañeros: Four Corners Immigrant Resource Center.

I'm wearing out my pinkie fiddle playing these plaintive dirges for these poor, downtrodden, violated, ILLEGAL ALIENS. Asylum my left eye. Nobody in that story had the same last name. Every person in Columbia needs asylum. They should just fix their problems in Columbia and not bring them here. She still doesn't speak English. Will she ever?? Assimilation...HA! GO HOME LADY! And take those children with you.

So, now they want to be able to self deport. Why didn't they do that when given the opportunity? They would have gotten a free plane ticket and $1000 and the possibility of coming back legally in future. Stupid decisions end up badly. PS, I guarantee that the father and 15 year old son were not "beaten" by ICE agents. Show us the video and prove it.

What a crock of bovine excrement. Previous posters are correct: there’s no way this story is true. They’re ILLEGAL ALIENS. They’re not supposed to be here! They should have left when they had the chance, and gotten free airfare and traveling money. Durango used to be a nice, quiet little mountain town, fun to visit and not a bad place to live. Then about 30 years ago it got “discovered” by liberals. Now, it’s ruined.

Lies in the first sentence....I will believe handcuffed, but unless these ILLEGALS started a fight, (which they often do) the were not beaten. Forced so "sign documents".......OH< NO! NOT THAT!!! I'm forced to 'sign documents every time I go to the doctor, or many other places. Deporting all illegals is a good thing. If you don't want to be deported.....go on your own. Just GO.

Note that 100% of this information comes from an immigration (anti-ICE) activist "translator." We don't really know what the mother said in Spanish. Just what the activist said she said. Plus, the allegations of targeting people with active asylum cases came from her.

Last month, the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) announced it had partnered with the Department of the Interior to cut $14 million worth of environmental grants, including $2.5 million for New Mexico. Today is a day of despair, and it would be futile to tell those who fear and grieve for what is to come in America that they will be OK. It would also be dishonest: many of us, in truth, will not be OK. Donald Trump has decisively won the American election. He and his Republican allies have promised mass deportations that will ruin lives and sunder families; they have threatened to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and appoint the anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist Robert F Kennedy Jr to a position of authority on public health. They have pledged vast cuts to social security and Medicare, .
