Metro Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell on Friday said it was “absurd” for U.S. Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN-05) to comment on the violent crime rate in Nashville, where FBI data reportedly ranked it among the 10 American cities with the highest violent crime rate. Ogles accused the mayor of being “asleep on the job” and called for the Tennessee National Guard to be deployed in the city. Ogles made the remarks after President Donald Trump said he would consider deploying the National Guard to Memphis following his administration’s success at reducing crime in Washington, D.C., urging the president, “send them to Nashville,” in a post to the social media platform X.

Perhaps Freddie should look up the meaning of absurd, and not use words that he doesn't actually know what they mean. What a typical Dem mayor. Presiding over one of the meanest, most violent cities in the country and not will to even admit that there is a problem to be addressed.

The police cand do their jobs if they have a Mayor and a Governor who has their backs and has the courage to clean up the mess. If the cities hire more police and fire more woke Judges they can get the job done without the National Guard.

Fast Freddie is a shill for the leftist good ole boy gang that has run Nashville for many decades. There is a shooting every day and crime in general is rampant. Just look at a Nashville PD crime map. Freddie is just touting the mantra that he is told to project. The good ole boys don't want Trump to send the Guard in because it will make Freddie and Nashville look bad. That would not help the growing tourism industry that Nashville now enjoys.

Lived in Bellevue (suburb of Nashville, west side) for about 40 years. Saw the first vagrant about 8 years ago, first shooting about 6 years ago. Have now moved further west but still in Nashville orbit. You could not pay me to go downtown, but I love the small towns around here. Lots to offer and good people. Nashville is just garbage and worse--dangerous garbage.

As a taxpaying Metro citizen I’d like Freddie to stop ignoring reality. As Freddie is a Democrat I seriously doubt this is possible.

Two of the criminal defense attorneys representing Kilmar Abrego Garcia in his federal human smuggling case in Tennessee did not respond to Thursday press inquiries from The Tennessee Star, which sought to confirm that Abrego Garcia reviewed and rejected a plea deal that would have seen him ultimately deported to Costa Rica. Neither Rascoe Dean of the Nashville-based Sherrard Roe Voight & Harbison, nor Sean Hecker of the New York law firm, Hecker & Fink, replied to the Thursday morning request from The Star to clarify their Saturday filing, which revealed the existence of the plea deal for the first time.

Asked by The Tennessee Star to comment on the video on Friday, the university directed The Star to a public statement published Thursday, revealing the independent law firm, Baker Donelson, was retained by the university to “conduct an independent review” of the incident.

O’Connell’s administration is currently subject to a congressional investigation over his actions in response to a federal operation that saw nearly 200 illegal immigrants detained last month, which included the creation of a “Belonging Fund,” which his office announced as a partnership between the city and various nonprofits,

Was floating a ban on trans people owning guns just some basement-level idiot’s idea for “owning the libs”? In the wake of Robin Westman’s deadly Minneapolis rampage, some troll in the bowels of the Trump Justice Department reportedly proposed blocking trans people from buying firearms by declaring them all “mentally ill.” This, of course, is absurd as a simple matter of law: No rule that strips a (dubiously-defined) group of their Second Amendment rights has any chance of holding up in court. And if it did somehow survive, that’s an open invitation for future progs to create their own “mentally ill by definition” categories — deployable to limit lots of other rights.

Here is why: I spent the last year examining the six major “lawfare” cases against President Trump in between his two presidential administrations, and the E. Jean Carroll wrote an account in New York magazine alleging that Donald Trump sexually assaulted her in a Bergdorf Goodman department store dressing room in 1995. Or maybe it was 1996. She can’t exactly remember.
