The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals has surprised me: Contrary to expectations, late on Thursday, they denied the plaintiffs' petition for a rehearing en banc (by the full court) in the USAID funding case. This follows a somewhat stunning win for the Trump administration on the matter two weeks ago, when a three-judge panel of the court vacated lower court injunctions regarding USAID funding.
In that prior 2-1 decision, the appellate court held:
The district court erred in granting that relief because the grantees lack a cause of action to press their claims. They may not bring

The pain of the awful Minneapolis school shooting Wednesday is still fresh in our hearts, but White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt revealed Thursday at a press briefing that another tragedy may have been averted in Washington, D.C.
She said that law enforcement in the nation’s capital arrested a juvenile Wednesday night for "allegedly threatening violence towards a school," just hours after the Annunciation Church School shooting, which left two children dead and at least 17 victims injured.
"This tragedy … is heartbreaking, as a parent myself there are no words to describe just the heartbreak

President Trump is sending Venezuela's strongman dictator a gentle nudge, a sort of reminder to behave himself. That reminder is in the form of a United States Navy task group, including the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit. This would be, of course, far more than El Presidente Maduro's country could take on.
This isn't a new tactic. Historically, sending warships to patrol up and down an unfriendly nation's coast is a time-tested way to remind these kinds of people to behave themselves. There's a possibility these ships may have more than one mission, as well.
This military activity follows White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt's statement last week

And Democrats do. Over and over again.
Over the last couple of days, I have written about Donald Trump's "cornering strategy," a term I use to describe Trump's deliberate choices to provoke Democrats into defenses of the worst of their policies and outcomes. That is especially apparent on urban crime, where Trump has Democrats attempting to claim that Washington DC streets are safe when their homicide rate far exceeds places like Fallujah on a per-capita basis. Trump has done this all year on issues like trade, foreign policy, and government spending, but it has been particularly effective on immigration, law enforcement, and cultural

The nation was left reeling Wednesday after a tragic shooting at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, where a gunman killed two young children and injured several others. Authorities later identified the shooter as a transgender-identifying male with radical left-wing views—a detail the media was quick to downplay. Sadly, this has become an all-too-familiar pattern. Just as we saw after the 2023 Covenant school massacre in Nashville, the press is once again bending over backwards to bury the shooter’s transgender identity. On his Fox News program Wednesday night, Jesse Watters blasted the media for their blatant double standard.
In his monologue, Watters detailed cases of shootings, firebombings, and ideological extremism

The Trump administration on Wednesday announced plans to retake control of Washington, D.C.’s Union Station — its latest measure geared at combating crime in the district.
“Instead of being a point of pride, Washington’s Union Station has fallen into disrepair,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in a statement. “By reclaiming station management, we will help make this city safe and beautiful.”
While the Department of Transportation has owned the historic station since the 1980s, it has allowed a nonprofit, the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation, more control over the station year after year.

When Democrats do something wrong, the story is always that Republicans are "seizing" or "pouncing," as if the criticism is unfair or simply a political ploy to take power away from our rightful rulers.
It's just a fact of life. Pravda exists to harm Republicans and put Democrats in power, so they have to distract from the fact that Democrats are ruining things.
I wrote a few days ago about how the Democratic establishment--not Democrat politicians or activists, but the people whose job it is to win elections--see Trump's moves on fighting crime as a "trap."

After a series of high-profile setbacks, SpaceX made significant progress in righting the ship for its Starship program, at least for one mission.
The latest generation of the world's most powerful rocket and spacecraft combo completed its mission on Tuesday evening during its 10th test flight, achieving the company's primary objectives.
The combination of the Starship, which could someday carry astronauts and cargo to the moon and Mars, and the Super Heavy booster, the rocket that propels the Starship in space, is more than 400 feet tall, made of stainless steel, and is being designed by SpaceX to be fully reusable.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has pledged to help fund legal actions connected to grooming gangs after an investigation identified at least 85 local authorities where child sexual exploitation has taken place.
Writing on his social media platform X, Musk said: “I would like to help fund legal actions against corrupt officials who aided and abetted the rape of Britain, per the official government inquiry. Please reply below for consideration.” His comment was in response to a post by Rupert Lowe MP, chair of the Rape Gang Inquiry, who announced the latest findings on Tuesday.

Elon Musk has shared an England flag on his X profile in an apparent nod of support towards a campaign to fly British and English national colours in towns and cities across the country in recent weeks. The South African tech billionaire, 54, who has paternal English relatives from Liverpool, shared a picture of the St George's flag on his social media profile, which has more than 224 million followers.
Musk has since reposted a mention from news site Visegrád 24, which captioned his earlier flag post with the words "Operation Raise the Colours has reached America". The Tesla and SpaceX founder

On the afternoon of Tuesday, August 26, history paused.
All commentary focused on an engagement. All eyes looked to a garden and a football player, who took a different kind of knee.
The Taylor Swift–Travis Kelce duo is a bit of a throwback in our odd times (when even Zoom meetings sometimes ask for pronouns). The New York Times wedding section isn’t just for brides and grooms anymore.
More importantly: We live at a time when people are afraid of marriage. When Pope Francis supposedly upended the concept of marriage in the Catholic Church — and decided what to do with divorced and remarried Catholics

You probably remember Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan, the genius who thought it would be a good idea to hide an illegal alien in her courthouse and help him escape through a side door when ICE agents came to nab him. Unfortunately for her, she was caught on tape, and a federal grand jury indicted her in May on two charges, which could cost her up to six years in prison and a maximum fine of $350,000. She was also temporarily removed from the bench by the Wisconsin Supreme Court until the case is resolved.
Her defense messaging has been ludicrous,
