An unidentified man was shot and killed Monday, several blocks from protesters rallying against President Donald Trump and his decision to deploy the National Guard in Washington, D.C., in order to combat crime. Trump’s announcement on Monday during a press briefing comes after a series of high-profile attacks in the city this year. The Metropolitan Police Department told the Daily Caller News Foundation that officers responded around 7:01 p.m. to the 1200 block of 12th Street NW, where they found an unconscious adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. After lifesaving efforts by D.C. Fire and EMS, the man was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Comments:

After years of insanity from the left and its racial support groups, I still can't understand why DC residents would oppose stopping the mayhem.

The Dems like to say crime is down so the crackdown is unnecessary. But it is down from astronomically high rates under Biden. If the number of murders in your neighborhood drops from 17 to 14 that's a notable drop percentagewise. But there are still 14 dead bodies when there should be not one.

In March 1969, when our eighth grade class took a week long bus trip from Nashville to the nation's capital (and Capitol), we stayed at a six story Howard Johnson's only a short distance from Watergate, which we all remember seeing three years before it got famous. Once we got to Washington DC, our assistant headmaster told us, "Don't even stick your nose out the door" at night. We had to stay in our rooms, and we all moved together, in the bus, during the day. The city was known to be a violent place in the 'Sixties. It's worse now. Either lock up violent hooligans, over be overrun by them. Make criminals pay. What a concept. The problem with recent crime statistics in DC is that violent criminals have frequently been undercharged, deliberately, so that city leaders can say that violent crime is down. It's not. It's just being ignored or downplayed by a class of politicians who are corrupt and dishonest. No wonder President Trump wants to take federal control of the federal district. The police union supports what Trump wants to do, and a bureaucrat responsible for the incorrect crime statistics has been fired. Our Nation's capital ought to be a showcase of beauty where Americans and visitors can travel safely, not have to dodge violent criminals.

It was a matter of acceptable versus unacceptable odds. Would he say that now? Probably not.

On a PDT FB post, a blonde babe in DC is handing out whistles to the homeless. The idea is for the homeless to blow the whistle if they are being 'kidnapped' and to call for help. Can you imagine if (nice) people just randomly blew their whistles all over DC.? The 'Free DC Project' will be confusingly busy.

A government agency has advised British business owners not to shame shoplifting suspects by posting pictures in their shops. Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has issued advice warning that it “may not be appropriate” to post pictures of shoplifters, the Times of London reported. According to the data watchdog, it would be “appropriate” for businesses to forward information to police or to share a suspect’s identity with managers of fellow shop owners.[snip] The advice comes in the wake of police demanding that a vintage clothes shop owner in Wales take down a sign describing shoplifters as “scum” as it might be taken as “provocative and offensive”

Word salads - they're not just the appetizer or palate cleanser anymore. They're what Democrats have for dinner. It's not a new phenomenon in American politics, and members of both parties have certainly been caught speaking words and phrases in search of a coherent thought. Joe Biden used to uncork speeches that were heavily seasoned with cul-de-sac sentences and ideas, and that was even before cognitive decline sidelined his run for reelection in 2024. But by the bitter end, when he had to step aside for Kamala Harris to pick up the mantle, it was just embarrassing and sad.

Upon taking office in January 2021, former President Joe Biden wasted no time in opening the border to any and all comers. In one of his first moves as commander in chief, he ridiculed Donald Trump’s efforts to build a wall and simply abandoned millions of dollars of equipment and supplies that had been intended to fortify our southern boundary. [snip] The global government-surplus auction house that listed unused components of President Donald Trump’s border wall under the Biden administration told Fox News Digital on Friday that it plans to coordinate with the Trump administration to return some of the materials to the federal government.

The scale of the effort to “debank” Donald Trump because of pressure from Biden administration regulators went far beyond JPMorgan and Bank of America, The Post has learned. At least 10 other financial institutions closed their windows to the billionaire real estate tycoon over his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill melee. The moves came in the months after Trump left the White House in 2021, sources inside the Trump Organization told me. The stunning scale of the blacklisting is being revealed here for the first time.

President Donald Trump’s executive orders banning diversity, equity and inclusion-related racial and gender preferencing have ostensibly doomed the DEI industry. But DEI was already on its last legs. Half of all Americans no longer approve of racial, ethnic or gender preferences. DEI had enjoyed a surge following the death of George Floyd and the subsequent 120 days of nonstop rioting, arson, assaults, killings and attacks on law enforcement during the summer of 2020. In those chaotic years, DEI was seen as the answer to racial tensions.

Paxton's move was part of an effort to force the Texas House Democrats to return after they fled the state to break the quorum so that a redistricting plan that could help Republicans would not pass.
