The Texas Senate approved new congressional lines on Tuesday in a rare mid-decade redistricting effort that could aid Republicans in their effort to keep control of the U.S. House of Representatives after the 2026 election. The vote was 19-2, with nine Democrats absent after exiting the Senate floor moments after the maps were taken up, a show of protest against what they framed as a "corrupt process." "This mid-decade redistricting isn’t about fair representation—it’s about politicians picking their voters instead of voters choosing their leaders," the Senate Democratic Caucus said in a statement. FTA: "This mid-decade redistricting isn’t about fair representation—it’s about politicians picking their voters instead of voters choosing their leaders," the Senate Democratic Caucus said in a statement. "And it doesn’t stop here. If they can gerrymander now, they can and will do it before every election." Really, Senate Democrat's Caucus? DemoRats will do anything, legal or not and twice on Sundays, to warp the vote for their nefarious purposes. What the Republicans are doing is not illegal according to any applicable laws, unless it's contrary to what the lying, cheating, stealing DemoRats want. Then of course, it's the end of the world as we know it! The only disappointment I can see in this bit of news is none of the truant DemoRat House members have been arrested yet.

Make sure all the bases are covered. Since a lot of them weren't there, they could start yelling and screaming about the vote being illegal since they weren't there. This is how they think.

#10 Has not missed anything. The Texas state senate passed the bill because they have more than enough votes. The issue with the Texas house of representatives is that they need 90% of members physically present in the room when vote is taken. They have the votes to pass it. They just cannot do it without a few democrat bodies taking up space in the room. They have pulled this stunt many times in the past. Their constituents have needs to be voted upon, so they will eventually show up in order to not risk losing next election. Governor Abbott is used to these antics, so he will just keep calling special sessions as needed.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. cleared a key hurdle Tuesday after a Senate panel voted to advance his nomination to be health and human services secretary to the full chamber. In a vote along party lines, the Senate Finance Committee pushed through Kennedy’s nomination after he managed to allay concerns raised by Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., over his past anti-vaccine stances. Cassidy, a doctor, signaled he held serious reservations over whether Kennedy was qualified to lead the vast agency, saying he was “struggling” with his decision after questioning him at two confirmation hearings last week. The ruling largely sides with the Justice Department and the coalition of state attorneys general who sued Google in 2020, finding that the tech giant has monopoly power

Before epilepsy was understood to be a neurological condition, people believed it was caused by the moon, or by phlegm in the brain. They condemned seizures as evidence of witchcraft or demonic possession, and killed or castrated sufferers to prevent them from passing tainted blood to a new generation. Today we know epilepsy is a disease. By and large, it’s accepted that a person who causes a fatal traffic accident while in the grip of a seizure should not be charged with murder. That’s good, says Stanford University neurobiologist Robert Sapolsky. That’s progress. But there’s still a long way to go.

A bloc of Republican hardliners blindsided GOP leaders on Tuesday and derailed two bills, a move they said was retaliation for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s deal with President Joe Biden to suspend the national debt limit. The revolt underscored the fragility of McCarthy’s narrow majority and the lingering tensions with the right-wing of his conference over the debt deal. But the protest also indicated that the members have not yet decided on whether to call for a vote ousting McCarthy from the speakership, something that would rip apart the House GOP and send the chamber into chaos. For now, the conservatives have settled on a strategy to scramble

In a 1954 movie about the Dutch resistance during World War II, its fighters took pride in their leader’s courage as he taunted the Germans during nighttime attacks. Brazenly wearing an easily visible white scarf, he was fearless in challenging the enemy to shoot at him. But it was only after the resistance had suffered numerous mission setbacks that a terrible reality came to light. Their leader, known as “The Scarf”, wore the garment, not to antagonize the enemy but to let them know where exactly he was on the battlefield so that, as a German collaborator, he would not be shot by them.
