Why Gavin Newsom’s wild plans for mid-decade
congressional redistricting may blow up

Gavin Newsom is going to war with the voters of California — and they might just hand him his head. The ambitious governor of California says he is trying to end the presidency of Donald Trump two years early with a plan to elect more Democrats to the House of Representatives, offsetting a mid-decade redistricting in Texas. Newsom wants to call a special election to throw out the congressional maps drawn by the independent Citizens Redistricting Commission that voters established using the initiative power. The initiative power in California goes back to 1911, when Republican Gov. Hiram Johnson said the people needed a way to deal with an indolent and corrupt legislature.

From the article: "Now Newsom is planning to ask voters to give more power to the leftist-Democrat legislature so it can draw congressional district maps that will give more power to leftist Democrats in Washington." Marxists on the march.....

FTA: "Voters in California are nowhere near as wild-eyed leftist as the government they’ve elected. President Trump received 6 million votes in the 2024 election, a little more than 38% of the total vote, but Republicans hold just 17% of the congressional seats, 24% of the California Assembly and 25% of the state Senate. Even Democratic voters in California are more conservative than the Democrats who control the government. Last year a tougher-on-crime initiative opposed by Newsom passed with more than 68% approval statewide, and a measure that would have made it easier for local governments to borrow money and raise property taxes went down to defeat by 10 points."

Well, I'm a lifelong California Republican voter as are all the members of my extended family and all of our friends. I would lijke to know why anonymous posters in states they fear to name need to pile on the Californians who have been here at Lucianne for decades. Slam the governor but your tarring all Californians is ignorant and impolite.

Since dem states are gerrymandered to the hill, does that mean they disregarded the orders of the courts against their unfair redistricting? Or, did all the judges go along? One of the Faux babes asked the gov of NY about their redistricting being declared illegal by judges, but that lying clown said they followed the law. Even when the FB repeated what she said about the judges, the dumb nut doubled down on, "We followed the law." They think people are that stupid.

Last Tuesday, President Trump threatened a federal takeover of Washington, D.C., after a DOGE employee was beaten up when he faced down a bunch of carjacking thugs. “If D.C. doesn’t get its act together, and quickly, we will have no choice but to take Federal control of the City, and run this City how it should be run,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. Trump’s options are limited, and a full-scale takeover would require an act of Congress. It is also probably dependent on how well it would be received by D.C. residents.

The furious torrent of lies and manipulations emerging from Gaza should surprise no one. This is Hamas’ Battle of Berlin. And the terrorists are winning. Just look at the image of Evyatar David, who was kidnapped from the Nova festival, crouching in a tunnel, emaciated and forced to dig his own grave. It is no coincidence that Hamas brazenly chose to publish photographs of the skeletal Jewish prisoners it is deliberately starving in its war tunnels after a week of successfully marketing its blood libel about how the IDF is starving Gazans. If you’ve ever seen a Mafia movie, you already know the trick.

President Trump’s initiative to restore law and order to the streets of the nation’s capital is a smart political move. All Americans consider Washington “our city,” and we want it safe. We can see on the nightly news that it is not, and we’re not happy about it. If Trump can turn that around, he will get well-deserved credit, not from the legacy media but from the public. Trump and his party will reap a second major benefit, as well. If he can lessen the muggings, car jackings and armed robberies, if he can move the homeless off downtown streets, he will highlight the difference between his approach

Bill Maher has shared his candid thoughts about the hosts of the hit daytime talk show, The View - and it doesn’t sound like he’s a big fan. The 69-year-old TV host reflected on his appearances on The View and interactions with hosts of it, including Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar, during Monday’s episode of his podcast, Club Random. The View has become a frequent target for those on the right who bash the hosts for being too liberal or taking too many shots against Donald Trump. In fact, reports say the show has been told to tone down the anti-Trump talk.

What Trump’s critics don’t understand—and probably never will: President Trump isn’t rattled. He’s composed, deliberate, and in control—which drives his opponents crazy. But instead of fixating on his tone, measure his results. Trade victories are stacking up, each one strategically designed to favor America. And why shouldn’t we enjoy these kinds of wins? We earned them through generations of sweat, toil, and ingenuity, all of which built the U.S. consumer market into the most coveted in the world—the literal engine of global discretionary demand.

The Dutch Defense Ministry announced that it would make the first purchase of US weapons for Ukraine under a new NATO mechanism. The scheme is for NATO allies to fund US defense systems and munitions that would then be shipped to Ukraine. Other NATO allies had pledged to join the initiative, but the Netherlands is the first to announce transferring funds. The announcement comes as Russia continues to attack Ukraine. At least three people were reportedly killed in strikes in Ukraine's east on Tuesday.

Despite the best efforts of Russiagate-complicit media to dismiss as “Russian disinformation” the latest revelations in this escalating scandal implicating President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in the treasonous “years-long coup” against President Trump, the public is paying attention and wants heads to roll. According to a Rasmussen poll released Monday, nearly two-thirds of voters (65%) are following declassified releases over the past month by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) “very closely” (32%) or “somewhat closely” (33%), repudiating the calculated media silence about the Obama administration’s fake narratives and manipulation of intelligence to frame Trump as a Kremlin stooge to cover up Clinton’s wrongdoing.

However, the real Democratic contender to watch is not Harris. Rather – implausible as it may seem to some – New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appears to be the front-runner for Democrats’ 2028 presidential nomination, should she forgo a Senate campaign, which she would almost certainly win.

A gerrymandered map proposed by the Texas GOP would kick firebrand Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett out of her own district and likely add more House seats to the Lone Star's Republican delegation. Last week, Texas House Republicans introduced a redistricting proposal that could net five new GOP seats. The draft congressional map, which is likely to change before approval by both state legislative chambers, aims to redraw district lines to include more Republican-leaning areas in Democratic strongholds like Dallas and Houston. Crockett, who serves Texas’ 30th Congressional District, which represents a large part of Dallas, has called the redistricting effort "a power grab to silence voters."

Trump has yet to make a final decision about the activation of federal troops, but the National Guard is currently readying to deploy them, two US officials with knowledge of the operation confirmed to Reuters. The preparation comes as 120 FBI agents from across the country have already begun patrolling DC streets overnight and backing up area cops at carjacking hot spots, despite many lacking local patrol work training, The Washington Post reported.

A pair of Texas friends died less than three months apart after ingesting pills laced with a dangerous new synthetic opioid, and now their mothers are begging US officials to sound the alarm on the little-known drug that’s up to 43 times more lethal than fentanyl. The young men both died this year after swallowing different pills secretly tainted with the deadly, often Narcan-resistant opioids known as nitazenes, which have begun seeping into the US at an alarming rate. Lucci Reyes-McCallister, 22, died January 26 near Houston, Texas, after taking a pill labeled as Xanax that was actually laced with N-pyrrolidino protonitazene, an emerging form of nitazene.

Leftist protesters formed a “human chain” to lament deported illegal aliens and social media can’t stop talking about it. This is more than redecorating — it’s a statement about accountability and honesty in presidential legacies. By moving the portrait, Trump delivers a quiet but clear verdict on one of the most corrupt

It’s hardly a secret that the Democrats are in the midst of an existential crisis. They are leaderless, fractious, broke, and more unpopular with the voters than they have been in decades. Instead, they attribute their ills to malevolent forces threatening “our democracy” and see themselves as its saviors. How will they rescue the republic? Former Clinton advisor James Carville laid out a blueprint last Wednesday.
