A radioactive wasp nest has been discovered near a former nuclear weapon manufacturing facility in South Carolina. The nest was found by workers at the Savannah River Site in Aiken County, according to a report from the Department of Energy. According to reports, the contaminated nest was found on July 3, just before 2 p.m., by Radiological Control Operations workers during routine inspections. Located on a stanchion near a tank in the F-Area tank farm, the nest registered a staggering 100,000 disintegrations per minute (dpm), a level described as “moderately high” radiation. Workers promptly sprayed the nest to eliminate the wasps, which were then bagged and disposed of as radiological waste.

Under an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, packages valued at or under $800 sent to the U.S. outside of the international postal network will now face "all applicable duties" starting on August 29. Goods shipped through the postal system will face one of two tariffs: either an "ad valorem duty" equal the effective tariff rate of the package's country origin, or, for six months, a tariff of $80 to $200 depending on the country of origin's tariff rate.

Absent sound money, a modern economy would revert to primitive barter where a cow might cost three goats. The introduction of money, at least in principle, solved relying on barter, but this also brought counterfeiting. Now, a dishonest person might debase a coin’s true value by filing off their edges or minting fake coins that replaced silver with lead. The rise of paper money similarly invited deceit -- inflation -- when cash-strapped governments just printed yet more paper currency until only the paper had value, so this “money” became wallpaper, even toilet paper. Governments thus have strict laws regarding debasing currency. When Issac Newton was appointed Warden of the Royal Mint

I picked these titles at random from the popular YouTube channel of Charlie Moore, a former Detroit cop who films his drives through inner city urban areas. The Atlantic characterized these journeys as “hood safaris,” implying that it’s racist to document the unfathomable danger the residents of our most crime-ridden cities face every day, even though Moore himself is black. I challenge anyone to watch just one of these videos and not instead ask: How have we allowed parts of cities like Chicago to become more dangerous than actual war zones?

As my colleague Ward Clark reported earlier, it was a big day for the Republican-controlled General Assembly in North Carolina, with the House and Senate overriding Democrat Gov. Josh Stein's veto of HB 805, a bill that, among other things, codifies the definition of man and woman in state law. What's especially interesting here is that, unlike in the Senate, which has a veto-proof supermajority, the House is short one vote courtesy of the 2024 elections. But one House Democrat, Rep. Nasif Majeed, voted along with Republicans to override the veto, saying afterwards, "I had some moral issues about that and I had to lean on my values."

Justice Department official Emil Bove was narrowly confirmed to a lifetime seat on the federal appeals court after the GOP-led Senate dismissed whistleblower claims he urged the Trump administration to defy court orders. The Senate voted 50-49 to approve President Trump’s former defense attorney to the 3rd US Circuit Court of Appeals, with Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) breaking ranks and joining all 47 Democrats in opposing the nominee. Tennessee Republican Bill Hagerty was absent for the vote.

The scandal-scarred independents running for New York City mayor stand little chance against frontrunner Zohran Mamdani — even if the rivals team up against the socialist candidate, a shocking new poll found. Mamdani, a Queens assemblyman and Democratic nominee, is projected to handily win the November general election with 50% of likely voters in the latest survey, released Tuesday by Zenith Research/Public Progress Solutions. Ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has decided to continue his comeback tour after his embarrassing June primary loss to 33-year-old Mamdani, came in a distant second at 22%, while the GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa pulled 13%.

Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping is mobilizing state entities, including, in this case, China State Shipbuilding Corp., in his all-of-society effort to achieve food security. [T]his effort is another signal that he is preparing to attack. There is one more element to Xi's food plan: Attack American agriculture. In June, three Chinese nationals were charged with attempting to smuggle biological agents into the United States. The Chinese attempts this year to smuggle pathogens may be only the latest incidents in a Chinese campaign to bring down American agriculture. China's regime, it appears, has been trying to plant invasive species in America since at least 2020.

Sensible New Yorkers didn’t need yet another reason to vote against Zohran Mamdani for mayor, but Monday’s horrific Midtown slaughter provided a clear illustration of why the radical Democrat must not win the keys to City Hall. Mamdani is in Uganda celebrating his wedding, but his initial statement on X about the bloodbath on Park Avenue rings hollow given his past smears of the NYPD and repeated calls to “defund the police.” “I’m heartbroken to learn of the horrific shooting in midtown and I am holding the victims, their families, and the NYPD officer in critical condition in my thoughts,” Mamdani posted on X late Monday.

For most of my life, the climate industrial complex has been a thorn in the side of the U.S. economy. Over the years, it has wrought numerous laws and regulations that have stifled economic growth, innovation, prosperity, and productivity. All in the name of saving the human species and the planet from the existential crisis called climate change. The blunt reality is that climate alarmist fearmongering has jumped the shark. It is now a subject of ridicule. No one really believes the world is going to end in a few years if we don’t immediately abandon fossil fuels. However, the climate change charade lasted a while and did extensive economic damage.

Voter fraud is suspected in the recent NYC primary, after it was discovered that dead people allegedly cast ballots. It was reported last week that two dead voters had somehow cast absentee ballots submitted under their names in June's still-contested Republican primary between two South Brooklyn City Council candidates, according to The New York Post. The New York City Council District 47 race between Brooklyn Republican Chairman Richie Barsamian and George Sarantopoulos is extremely close, with Sarantopoulos leading by 16 votes as of July 28. Both campaigns have called for investigations amid reports of ballot irregularities.

When it comes to their views and policies concerning so-called climate change, President Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama stand far apart.Trump is a climate realist who understands that conventional power sources like coal and natural gas are pivotal to America’s grid stability and will play a big role in the forthcoming AI arms race. Obama, on the other hand, is a staunch climate alarmist who derides conventional power sources and favors “green” energy. During his two terms, Obama enacted several policies that subsidized uncompetitive, unneeded, and unwanted green energy while placing onerous regulations on fossil fuels.

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin announced Tuesday that the EPA would propose rescinding the 2009 so-called "Endangerment" finding by the Obama administration. This finding underpins every "climate change" and most automobile regulations issued since 2009 and, if successful, would effectively eradicate "climate change" regulation as a federal policy consideration. Using a visit to a truck dealership in Indianapolis with Governor Mike Braun as a backdrop, EPA Administrator Zeldin announced EPA's anticipated attempt to unravel the fragile underpinning for such things as EPA's electric vehicle mandate and the war on efficient air conditioners, water heaters, furnaces, and small gasoline tools like lawnmowers and leaf blowers.

Back in 2016, I remember reading an analysis that President Obama's two terms had left the Democrats in bad shape. In other words, he started in 2009 with huge majorities and left town with the GOP in charge of the U.S. Senate and House. It was probably not what Obama planned, but it happened that way. So the question is: What led Obama to allegedly organize a takedown of the Trump presidency? Was he hurt or was his ego crushed? I like this analysis from Martin Gurri: He understood, as a realist, that he had been the cause of which Trump was the effect.

Last week PEW published a Party Affiliation Fact Sheet based on a big annual survey it does every year. What the fact sheet shows this year will not be a surprise to anyone who pays any attention to politics. Men, especially young men, have stepped away from the Democratic Party. Today, Americans are about evenly split between the two parties: 46% identify with or lean toward the Republican Party, and 45% identify with or lean toward the Democratic Party. This balance of partisanship is similar to 2024, but the current near-even division marks a shift from the affiliation advantage the Democratic Party enjoyed a few years ago...
