Wealthy nations that fail to limit their fossil fuel use and reduce pollution could be held financially liable by countries most affected by climate change, says the United Nations' top court in a new opinion issued Wednesday. The 15-judge International Court of Justice (ICJ), based in The Hague, Netherlands, concluded that international treaties require developed countries to curb global warming and oversee the climate impact of companies operating under their jurisdiction.[snip] The court’s finding extends legal responsibility beyond governments to include private corporations operating within national borders.

It's striking how similar NPR's situation is to that of Planned Parenthood. Both organizations have an affiliate model and both just had a lot of federal money cut from their budgets. That means both are now hoping to find new sources of funding to keep the doors open. The NY Times reports there has been an increase in donations to PBS and NPR but so far the amount isn't nearly enough to offset the cuts.
Over the last three months, as the prospect of the cuts intensified, roughly 120,000 new donors have contributed an estimated $20 million in annual value,

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) drew widespread mockery Thursday over a since-deleted social media post that showed how the cost of groceries skyrocketed under former President Joe Biden.
The X post included a graph of soaring cheese, alcohol, dairy, grocery, produce and meat prices dating back to October 2019, with the major inflection point being near the start of the Biden administration in 2021.
“Trump’s America,” read the tweet shared by @TheDemocrats.
“Prices are higher today than they were on July 2024 all in major categories listed below,” read the caption on the graphic, which did not note the source of the data.

What's the only gear a French car has? Reverse.
That's an old joke that I remember an uncle telling many years ago, and it's evergreen. Amid the rise of Islamist influence across the world, specifically in Western countries, France has decided to do what it does best: Preemptively surrender.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday that he and his nation will formally recognize a "Palestinian State," rewarding the murderous terrorists who still control Gaza and the West Bank. That will officially take place at the UN General Assembly, set to happen in September. Hamas was quick to take advantage, thanking Macron

I suspected that this was the case, and even said so in a recent radio interview.
But I have been very reluctant to write about it because I am not a lawyer, so I can only use my common sense and layman's understanding of the law in what must be a very, very complex question.
But Trump, who certainly has access to excellent legal advice, has just said that Obama has immunity from prosecution for any crimes he may have committed in conspiring to use falsified intelligence to undermine Trump's presidency, set up a phony impeachment, and perhaps put Trump in jail.

Two siblings in Eastpointe, Michigan, are facing multiple charges related to a shooting near a Foot Locker store that occurred on May 3.
The altercation left two people dead and one seriously injured.
At around 2:50 p.m., Lakylia Taylor (19) and her brother Dejuan Taylor (21) arrived at the Foot Locker parking lot with some friends. After exiting the vehicle they began walking toward the store when they came across a Jeep Compass parked nearby. This vehicle contained another group of young men.
Tyjaune Pierre Morrs-Turner emerged from the Jeep with three others carrying a handgun and got into an argument with Dejuan. The verbal dispute soon turned physical,

There aren't many things out there that will make a grown man tear up. Watching 32,000-pound fighter jets fly by in full afterburner with "God Bless the U.S.A." playing in the background is one of them.
The Navy's Blue Angels have been a staple of Americana for decades, thrilling audiences and bestowing a sense of national pride like few others can. The first time I saw them at an air show as a child, I was mesmerized. The low passes and the tight formations were incredible, and the sound of freedom was unforgettable.

Colbert and his allies in the Pravda Media/entertainment complex--along with Democrats--are insisting that the former funnyman was fired at the behest of President Trump.
The accusation is absurd. You can't lose tens of millions of dollars a year and expect to keep your $15 million a year job. The math doesn't work.
But, as we know, propaganda works with people who want to believe it. All you need is an authoritative voice to say the most absurd things, and people inclined to believe it, will. Even many who do not start out believing it come to do so, based on the "when there is smoke, there's fire principle.

West Virginians mined the coal that forged the steel that built New York City.
The Empire State Building, the Brooklyn Bridge, even the subway — none of these iconic landmarks would exist without the blood and sweat of West Virginia coal miners.
West Virginia still powers the nation, supplementing its coal production with oil and natural gas.
But New York elites want to punish West Virginians for doing the very jobs that provide them so much comfort in their ivory towers.

Michigan has joined four other states who have introduced legislation to ban Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents from wearing masks, with the Wolverine state calling for jail time for violators.
Democrats in California, New York, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania also have introduced similar bills as part of an attempt by those lawmakers to “increase transparency and limit the agency’s expanded powers” under President Donald Trump, Newsweek reported this week.
As Breitbart News has reported, federal authorities say ICE officers have been wearing plain clothes and using masks during raids to hinder their identification they or their families won’t be targeted off the job by open boarder advocates.

One of the most important provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill has gone completely unnoticed, but promises to make the auto industry great again.
For 50 years, the federal government has been forcing fuel economy standards on auto companies. If the average fuel economy of the cars sold in a year exceeded a federal standard, the companies had to cough up enormous penalties.
Passed in 1975 as a way to deal with an energy crisis (that was caused by government price controls), “corporate average fuel economy” (CAFE) standards – required the fleet of cars sold by an automaker to achieve

You can almost hear the death rattle emanating from Media Matters for America (MMFA), the unofficial (wink-wink) media arm of the Democrat Party, which unironically calls itself the "progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media."
From the New York Times:
The organization, which is funded by some of the Democratic Party’s biggest donors, has racked up about $15 million in legal fees over the past 20 months to defend itself against lawsuits by Elon Musk, in addition to investigations by Mr. Trump’s Federal Trade Commission and Republican state attorneys general.
