President Donald Trump announced Tuesday he had reached a settlement with CBS and Paramount triggered by a 60 Minutes interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. 'We have just achieved a BIG AND IMPORTANT WIN in our Historic Lawsuit against 60 Minutes, CBS, and Paramount,' Trump wrote on Truth Social. 'Just like ABC and George Slopadopoulos, CBS and its Corporate Owners knew that they defrauded the American People, and were desperate to settle.' Trump said that Paramount/CBS/60 Minutes paid $16 million in the settlement and anticipated an additional $20 million from the new owners of CBS in advertising, PSAs or similar programming.

Hmmm... CBS was willingly (until last week) losing $40 million a year on Colbert. Now they're having to pay $36 million to PDJT. Money being fungible, it seems pretty obvious to me that most of the money earmarked for Colbert is now going to Trump. Which means CBS has to put Colbert on the unemployment line. So it seems PDJT really can take credit for getting Colbert's show canceled... Congrats, Mr. President!

After the fall of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, Russia has scrambled to transfer military equipment to other areas, including eastern Libya. Experts question Russia’s long-term strategic goals and fear the expanded presence of mercenaries and military personnel could further destabilize Libya, Sudan and other nations in the region. The Kremlin increasingly has used Al-Khadim air base, about 100 kilometers east of Benghazi, as a hub for conducting operations, supplying arms, and trafficking resources in and out of the restive Sahel region.

The federal government has awarded a contract to build and operate a sprawling tent camp at Fort Bliss, an Army base in Texas, to serve as an immigrant detention center. In the Trump administration’s latest move to vastly expand space for such detention, the work would turn the base in El Paso, with more than 1 million acres and an airport, into a deportation hub with 5,000 beds. That would make it the largest immigration detention facility in the country. An official for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement said that the agency “is indeed pursuing all available options to expand bedspace capacity.

A magistrate judge paused Kilmar Abrego Garcia's release from federal custody Wednesday, shortly after a separate judge ruled that Abrego, who was mistakenly deported in March to El Salvador, should be released while he awaits trial on human smuggling charges. U.S. Magistrate Judge Barbara Holmes in the Middle District of Tennessee ordered Abrego’s release from federal custody paused for 30 days or until further court order. “Abrego shall therefore remain in the custody of the United States Marshal pending further order,” she wrote.

An appellate court ruled the Trump administration can move forward with ending temporary deportation protections for thousands of Afghan and Cameroonian nationals. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is allowed to end the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for roughly 10,000 Afghans and Cameroonians while a court challenge against the move continues to play out in court, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Monday. The court determined that while CASA — an immigration advocacy group suing DHS — has a plausible case, there is not enough evidence to block the TPS phaseout while the court challenge continues.

More than 100 criminal cases at Boston Municipal Court have been dismissed as Massachusetts defendants go without lawyers in the wake of an attorney work stoppage. Virtually all bar advocates — private lawyers hired by the state to represent people who can't afford an attorney — are no longer accepting district court cases due to a pay dispute with the state. The Lavallee Protocol mandates that defendants who do not have attorneys within 45 days are to have the cases against them dismissed without prejudice. Nigel Farage has said violent UK offenders could be jailed overseas under his plans to cut crime by half. The Reform UK leader named El Salvador as a likely destination, though he said he has not held conversations with officials there and "multiple" partners would be considered. El Salvador is home to a notorious mega-prison, the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT). "It is quite astonishing that to keep a prisoner in a British prison it costs nearly £52,000 a year. "You could send a child Eton for that price. "So we can send some of our worst violent criminals overseas to serve their terms ..."

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has proposed sending some prisoners overseas to serve their sentences, as part of a raft of measures he says would create around 30,000 prison places and cost £17.4bn. Farage said the UK was "facing nothing short of societal collapse" and that a Reform government would halve crime in five years. He said crime costed the British economy £170bn,

California Democratic Gov. Immigrant Defenders Law Center (IDLC) and Immigrant Legal Defense (ILD) received $500,000 in 2023 and $110,000 in 2025, respectively, at Newsom’s request, according to state records first reported by The Washington Free Beacon. In the annals of stupid and poorly run schemes, the California High-Speed Rail project ranks among the worst. Its future, even a dramatically scaled down one, has become ever more precarious since the Trump administration’s Department of Transportation rescinded $4 billion in funds already granted the project. Governor Newsom has already filed a suit to reverse the action, but he can’t legislate away the reality that this project is an abject embarrassment. When voters approved $9 billion in 2008, Rail estimated it would cost $33billion and start running by 2020 – just for the San Joaquin Valley portion. The cost has since ballooned to $130 billion; no stretch is operational.

Obama’s office took the unusual step of issuing an emphatic refutation after Trump told reporters that his predecessor had “[tried] to lead a coup” against him and was guilty of “treason” over intelligence assessments suggesting that Russia had intervened to help Trump defeat Hillary Clinton in the campaign. “Out of respect for the office of the presidency,

Stephen Colbert wants you to believe he's some kind of martyred truth-teller, canceled by the evil corporate overlords for daring to speak truth to power about Donald Trump. He’s not. It's a compelling narrative, if you're the type who still thinks late-night comedy hosts are brave crusaders rather than overpaid establishment mouthpieces. But, rather than accept reality, he’s leaning into the preferred narrative that he’s being silenced and that it’s President Trump’s fault.
