EU trade ministers plan countermeasures
to Trump’s ‘unacceptable’ 30% tariffs

EU trade ministers agreed Monday that U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of 30% tariffs on the European Union was “absolutely unacceptable,” and they are studying a new set of countermeasures to respond to the move. The ministers met Monday in Brussels following Trump’s surprise announcement over the weekend of such hefty tariffs, which could have repercussions for governments, companies and consumers on both sides of the Atlantic. The EU is America’s biggest business partner and the world’s largest trading bloc. Maroš Šefčovič, the EU’s trade representative in its talks with the U.S., said after the meeting that it was “very obvious from the discussions today, the 30% is absolutely unacceptable.”

They don't have to eat 30% tariffs. Lower yours, well lower ours. Easy. Oh wait you wanted to restrict our goods while we let yours in? Doesn't work that way anymore.

Well, continuing the Marshall plan and it's largesse for seventy five years is equally or more unacceptable to America.

The EU ministers are all afraid to lower their tariffs on US goods. How will they pay for their generous social programs without that money? The European people have been deceived by their governments that all of that social largesse is free. It is paid by high income taxes on them and tariffs. Lose the tariff cash flow and the free stuff goes away or income taxes must go up even more. They just won't admit it to their people.

I think poster #6 is correct. The slimeballs who have been running the EU don't want to see their gravy train derailed just as badly as Demonrats on this side of the pond don't want to see USAID, etc.,...go away. President Trump is really putting the screws to all these grifters. They really deserve much worse than they're getting so far.

Democrats underwater in new poll 2 replies

The Democratic Party’s approval rating is underwater at 40 percent, according to a new poll, the latest troubling sign for a party still grappling with its losses from November. A Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll released on Monday found that only 4 in 10 respondents approved of the job that the Democratic Party is doing, a slight drop from June, when 42 percent of respondents answered similarly. Of the 40 percent of respondents who gave the Democratic Party a thumbs-up, they included 72 percent of Democrats and 29 percent of independent or other voters.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) was issued a subpoena over comments he made in February, implying that he was sheltering an illegal alien in his home, according to a New York Times report. Several people “with knowledge of the matter” told the outlet that U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey Alina Habba was “pursuing an investigation” into Murphy’s comments. Two of the sources clarified that Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents had “sought to interview at least four witnesses in connection with the comments,” while another person stated that Murphy “had been subpoenaed”:

A district judge appointed by former President Barack Obama has upheld her own order from late last week blocking a provision of the “Big, Beautiful Bill” that defunds abortion giant Planned Parenthood of taxpayer dollars through Medicaid. U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani issued an amended temporary restraining order on Friday explaining why she decided to block the provision ahead of a hearing — after releasing an initial order on July 7 blocking the provision with no explanation, just hours after Planned Parenthood filed its lawsuit.

Major League Baseball (MLB) made a scheduling decision regarding the 2021 All-Star Game in Atlanta. The decision was a political statement because of mounting pressure from the Biden Administration, Stacey Abrams, and a litany of virtue-signaling CEOs. In one decision, MLB removed any doubt that it didn't have the baseballs when it moved the All-Star Game to Denver, Col. Why were the wolves howling four years ago? Because the state of Georgia had the temerity to pass an election integrity bill, Senate Bill 202. Democrats, without any evidence, described the bill as "Jim Crow on steroids." Stacy Abrams, that bastion of integrity, called for economic boycotts.

Happy Tuesday, dear Kruiser Morning Briefing friends. Endelphlemp preferred a steady diet of peppery apple sausages when spending the day translating the Beastie Boys catalogue into Lithuanian. Today's lead-off is an extension of something that Kevin and I discussed in an all-access episode of "Unwoke" last month. That was mostly about the riots in Los Angeles and how it seemed that there were (are) no adults in charge there. The other end of that leftist spectrum is a government that is too in charge. We saw a lot of that during the 14 years of COVID, didn't we? There's always more bad news with the lefties though.

As the Executive Director of the Florida Division of Emergency Management, Kevin Guthrie had the unenviable task of providing a tour of 'Alligator Alcatraz' for lawmakers who were overseeing conditions at the facility. Guthrie provided some details of how Democrat officials taking part in that tour did their best to portray those conditions as inhospitable to the illegal aliens being held within in an interview with Fox News personality Jesse Watters. Some of it is downright hilarious. Take, for example, the individual whom he did not name, who brought an infrared thermometer to try to assess the temperature.

Hamas has been demanding "clear guarantees" that any US-brokered ceasefire deal would ultimately lead to the end of the war in the Gaza Strip, meaning that the Israelis should stop defending themselves against attacks. Many Arabs seem to like starting wars -- such as the war of 1948, when five Arab armies invaded Israel on the day of its independence, and which they now call the nakba (catastrophe) -- but then getting angry when they lose them. "Once again, Hamas's spokesman – Izzat al-Risheq ... [insists] 'they will never surrender.' He speaks from comfort abroad, while Gazans starve in ruins....

U.S. President Donald Trump repeatedly said during his campaign that, if elected to a second term, he would be able to end the war between Russia and Ukraine “in 24 hours.” But since his Jan. 20 inauguration, the road to a peace deal has been fraught with changing dynamics between the U.S. leader, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump’s rhetoric toward both Zelenskyy and Putin has evolved since the beginning of the year. On Monday, Trump said he’ll punish Russia with tariffs if there isn’t a deal to end the war in Ukraine within 50 days, the latest example of his growing frustration with Putin.

The Justice Department on Monday defended prosecuting Jeffrey Epstein’s madam Ghislaine Maxwell — as US Attorney General Pam Bondi faces a brewing firestorm over files related to the notorious pedophile. The disgraced British socialite was wrong to claim that she was protected by the baffling sweetheart plea deal Epstein struck with the Florida feds in 2007, DOJ lawyers argued. “That contention is incorrect,” the feds wrote in a legal filing. Maxwell, 63, has asked the US Supreme Court to toss her 2021 conviction for grooming and abusing young women based on that claim.

Vice President JD Vance cast two tie-breaking votes in the Senate Tuesday to move forward a $9.4B rescissions package — which would rip federal funding from PBS and NPR — in the upper chamber. The Senate deadlocked, 50-50, on two procedural votes to start debate on the multibillion-dollar spending clawback package before Vance’s votes advanced the measure requested by the White House. Three Republicans – Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) – joined all Democrats in opposition to the bill.

But it doesn’t matter what most Republicans want, because elections are won on the margins. I often disagree with Steve Bannon on policy, but his instincts for political tactics are razor sharp.
