Let’s get this out of the way first. No, the Constitution wasn’t officially suspended in 1933. But it was gagged, blindfolded, and tied to a chair while the federal government handed itself sweeping emergency powers and redefined “freedom” into a kind of bureaucratic improv comedy routine. They didn’t declare martial law on paper because that would have looked bad. Instead, they declared it in practice and gave it a haircut, a press pass, and a desk job. Most Americans never noticed. Most still don’t.

An excellent article, and well worth your time.
If this gets you interested in how our current situation came about, pick up a copy of “The Forgotten Man” by Amity Shlaes. It’s a history of the Great Depression, and it uncovers all of FDR’s shenanigans.

Maybe I read it too fast. But was there a mention of the Great Depression? Survival outweighs principles. People facing starvation are looking for any kind of help. FDR was a master at convincing them that he was the answer. Today we have the FCC and FAA which aren't in The Constitution because electronics and planes weren't around when Our Constitution was written. But it is still The Law of The Land.

Perhaps I stopped reading too early but when an author starts to wax nostalgic for the gold standard, I immediately stop wasting my time. Perhaps there is other things that aren't as ignorant and misinformed, but I'll never know.
A gold standard is a guarantee of boom and bust economic cycles, driven by the success or failure of gold discovery and mining. We proved that again and again in the 1800s.
A stupid, outdated, unworkable concept.
The other side is that a crooked and incompetent "Central Bank" can intentionally inflate the currency by creating more than is needed. The need is a slow, steady growth of the money supply at a rate which prevents deflation, and doesn't print too much, and thereby prevents inflation. Milton Friedman was the primary proponent of this FACT, while other clowns who pretended to be economists push the Kensian insanity.
The Goldilocks rate of money supply growth is the holy grail, and unfortunately, too many in charge are too stupid and/or too corrupt to do it correctly. Our current Federal Reserve is a fine example.
A gold standard is a deadly mirage, NOT workable in any large modern society.

FTA: "Then came House Joint Resolution 192 in June of that same year. This little piece of legal sorcery declared that debts could no longer be paid in gold. Instead, all gold was to be surrendered to the Federal Reserve, and the American public would now transact in fiat currency—Federal Reserve Notes."
When I was a little girl, in the 1960's, my paternal grandfather was still railing against the confiscation of his gold. I'm forever grateful he did. When I began to study history, I understood how "the powers that be" never have, and never will, have the best interests of their citizens at heart. Thanks, Daddy Joe, for laying the groundwork for a future MAGA protagonist!

FDR might have agreed with that sentiment so he "saved" the American economy by confiscating most of it. /s

Clarification:
Confiscating people's gold is pure government evil. No doubt about that.
But insisting on a gold backed currency is destructive to the economy.
Our current system where gold as a commodity is legal, and which has it's value set by market forces is good.
Don't trust paper money? Then buy gold and silver. I own substantial amounts of both metals, in coin form and am still against a gold standard.
