Recently, Katy Perry claimed on her Instagram page that California has always belonged to Mexico and is another example of U.S. racism and bigotry. That’s not quite … right. California, like most of the world, has a history that’s slightly more complex than will fit an average bumper sticker. Prior to the Spanish arrival in 1542, there were more than 100 different tribes inhabiting modern-day California. (Snip)The American annexation of Texas, a decade later in 1845, was the catalyst that brought California into the United States. When the U.S. annexed Texas, Mexico disputed exactly where the southern border was.

Jesse Watters mentioned the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo the other night in his opening monologue, countering the ridiculous argument that California belongs to Mexico. In Colorado, you can visit Bent’s Fort on the way to LaJunta, reconstructed to look like it did when it supplied travelers on the Santa Fe trail. The fort is situated on the Arkansas River. In 1845, everything south of that river was Mexico. They lost a lot of land to the U.S. because of that war.

War and $18.5 million payments is how we got that part of the country. We paid Napoleon $15 million for the Louisiana purchase, so regardless of all the lies and whining....we BOUGHT the area north of the Spanish/Mexican holdings and then BOUGHT the Spanish/Mexican holdings.
And as the author points out, there were almost NO Mexicans anywhere in that area, and there were a whole heck of a lot more European and American whites.
As usual, the leftist fairy tales won't stand up to a real history lesson.

Re #1, we have visited Bent's Fort (reconstructed) and drove thru La Junta on Thursday, returning from the Colorado mountains. And don't neglect the $18.5 million that Mexico was PAID, cash and assumed debts combined.

“The United States won California because of winning a war — the way lands have changed hands for virtually all of human history“.
It’s my belief that we’ve been invaded for this very reason. They come here, burn our flag and raise their own flag. The flag of the country they supposedly fled for better lives. No, they invaded our country, not to assimilate but to conquer.

I would highly recommend watching the Kevin Costner's "The West" which is an 8 part series.
Very informative and does not gloss over the indigenous people either.
And when you see that the United States bought the Louisiana Purchase from Napoleon, you may realize the people who were told to "go west" didn't likely view the Indian tribes as the owners of the land since it was bought from France.
They certainly didn't treat the Indian tribes very well or honor most of the treaties either.
Regardless, it is now the property of the United States of America, a sovereign country.

#4, It has always been my contention that the land belongs to those who can defend it - by military might, political power, wealth, law or consensus.
You think you own your home, even if it is paid for? Try not paying your taxes or some entity with power or wealth confiscates it by eminent domain. Will the law help your defend it or hinder you?
For consensus, consider squatters' rights. On a micro scale, homeless people in your vacant house. On a macro scale, that is what the whole immigrant crisis is about.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the day leading Mexican government officials attempt to abrogate the Treaty of Hidalgo. [What citizen bleaters say on either side of the border doesn't count.] At that point, we can resume a state of war with Mexico, which will result in their defeat and annexation as American-administered territories. I realize there are patriotic Mexicans who love their country, warts and all... however, they don't seem to have enough political power to put an end to the cartels. I think it will take an invasion to do that. It's a bad idea in a lot of respects, but one I feel is inevitable and will happen in this century...

As far as I am concerned Mexico can have it back if they agree to take Newsom and anyone who voted for him with it.

OK, you can have it back, but you have to take Pelosi, Schiff, Harris, and Newsome with it. No give backs.

By just watching responses from politicians in Mexico and some dummies in the USA, you can see what could happen if it is thought that the USA is weak and would give up the Southwest to Mexico or the dummy establishment without much resistance.

That garbage comes from the mouths of Communist agitators in Central and South America. It was after the Commies got a foothold in Cuba that the Soviets sought ways to undermine the United States through its stooges and dupes in Mexico, along with those Commies residing in the USA, legal or otherwise. If you delegitimize your opponent's national sovereignty, you drive a wedge between its people and its "truth" that's been told for decades and centuries, thereby calling into question literally everything they stand for. If our leaders, present and past, have been carrying on with a lie, yet telling us the opposite is true, then literally everything we stand for and believe in is up for grabs. It's a corrosive tactic to undermine legitimate authority.
Communists lie about everything... they do it to their enemies, and they do it to their own people/slaves. Their proclamations are utterances straight from the mouth of Satan, and always vile evil.

The Aztecs and the Mayans were defeated by Cortez and the armies of Spain. Those who were not shot were killed by European diseases. Mexico grew out of the combination of the Spanish soldiers and settlers and the remnants of the native tribes. Unfortunately, Mexico now has a helpless government controlled by criminal cartels and can not stand on their own until they fix that problem. Their police are nothing but criminals wearing uniforms. As with all of the land on this Earth, ownership is determined by who can defend what they claim.

To be honest, if Mexico wants California....give it to them. Then California crazies become Mexico's problem.

I have a dream wherein law enforcement has these giant capture nets and they fly over riot zones and drop them and scoop up a couple hundred rioters at a time (Mexican flags and all) and fly them over the border to Mexico and drop them. Voila! They're now waving the right flag in the right country!! Alas, 'tis but a dream...

Perhaps we should ask the Mayans, Aztecs, and Comanches for their views on Mexican sovereignty over their lands?
And the giant herds of buffalo would have preferred no Comanches at all.
Fact is, invasions happen, land changes hands...it's one of history's only constants.

Late to the party with this, but to all of you talking about Spain taking Mexico from the Aztec and the Comanches. Ask the people living in the lands of Mexico and Tejas what they thought.
Many, many groups around what is now Mexico City hated the Aztec, being forced to became part of their empire and "volunteering" to become sacrifices on those pyramids. Cortez had about 200 men in Mexico City. He had a lot of help from non-Aztec allies. (One advantage of Christianity - no pyramid-climbing.)
The Comanches were moving into Tejas from the north about the same time the Spanish were moving in from the South, and the locals, including Apache groups, were seeking refuge with the Spanish from the Comanche empire-building.
Like I said, above - Who owns the land? Whoever can defend the land.
