LOS ANGELES -- More than 2,000 "No Kings Day" protests were held across the U.S. on Saturday to protest the Trump administration and to counterprogram the military parade in Washington, D.C. The demonstrations remained peaceful in almost all cities, but as the evening grew in Los Angeles, tensions escalated between police and protesters. (Snip) Ahead of the planned curfew set to go into effect at 8 p.m., LAPD is asking all demonstrators to leave the Civic Center area in downtown. Shortly before the request, the LAPD said officers had requested assistance due to "agitators" throwing objects at officers. Earlier, a dispersal

The suspect in the assassination of a Democrat lawmaker in Minnesota Saturday morning had a stack of flyers reading 'No Kings' in their vehicle, Minnesota State Patrol said on X. "Given the targeted shootings of state lawmakers overnight, we are asking the public to not attend today's planned demonstrations across Minnesota out of an abundance of caution," the MSP said, adding, "The photo is of flyers inside the vehicle of the suspect in today's shootings." 'No Kings' refers to the thousands of demonstrations scheduled to take place throughout the United States Saturday in protest of President Donald Trump as he

"No Kings" events in Anoka and northeast Minneapolis have been canceled so far on Saturday, following the targeted shootings at the homes of two Minnesota lawmakers. Organizers say the cancellations are due to a shelter-in-place order and "ongoing safety concerns" after the shootings targeting DFL Sen. John Hoffman and DFL Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman. Gov. Tim Walz has since said Hortman and her husband are dead, and Hoffman and his wife are wounded following the "politically motivated" shooting.

SEATTLE — State leaders and law enforcement are bracing for a day of protests against President Trump’s immigration actions across Washington on Saturday. Gov. Bob Ferguson and local leaders held a news conference calling for protesters to remain peaceful. The governor and officials also provided updates on preparations. (Snip) Some business owners worry about another round of damage like what was seen Wednesday night in Seattle, when a destructive anti-ICE protest shut down parts of downtown Seattle. They want people to speak out, but not in a destructive way. Governor Bob Ferguson said emergency officials have a plan in case

Walmart heiress Christy Walton promoted a planned nationwide protest against President Trump by running a full-page advertisement that ran in the New York Times on Sunday. The ad, which notes that it was paid for by the billionaire heiress, calls on people to participate in the "No Kings" protest slated to take place across the U.S. on June 14 — the same day a military parade celebrating the Army's 250th Anniversary is set to take place in Washington, D.C. The date of the parade and protests also coincides with Mr. Trump's birthday. The ad lists eight declarations, including "WE honor our

The "No Kings" protest against President Donald Trump and his administration is set to be the largest nationwide mobilization since Trump took office, according to organizers. There are 1,800 protests planned across the country for June 14, with millions expected to attend. The protests have been organized to coincide with Trump's birthday and the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army, which the administration plans to commemorate with a tank parade through Washington, D.C. Newsweek has contacted the No Kings team for comment via email. Since Trump returned to office in January, there have been nationwide protests—such as the "Hands

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office is attempting to mock President Donald Trump’s characterization of Los Angeles as “occupied” by illegal immigrants, using artificial intelligence and the voice of a “Star Wars” villain. In a video Newsom’s office posted on X Tuesday morning, the voice of Emperor Palpatine recites a recent Trump post on Truth Social, accompanied by footage of marching Stormtroopers. “A once great American city, Los Angeles, has been invaded and occupied by illegal aliens and criminals,” the sneering voice says, reminiscent of the emperor’s evil monologues from the film franchise. “Now, violent, insurrectionist mobs are swarming and attacking

Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin said he considered stepping down from his post amid mounting internal turmoil caused by DNC Vice Chair David Hogg’s vow to primary members of the party. (Snip) Martin, who was elected to his seat earlier this year, said the infighting had left him demoralized and struggling to handle his job. “I’ll be very honest with you, for the first time in my 100 days on this job,” Martin said with a lengthy pause. “The other night I said to myself, I don’t know if I wanna do this anymore.” Martin said in the recording

The Democratic Party has reached an all-time low in popularity in the latest national NBC News poll, as it searches for a path forward after a painful loss to President Donald Trump — and as the party’s voters spoil for a fight between their leaders in Washington and Trump. Just over a quarter of registered voters (27%) say they have positive views of the party, which is the party’s lowest positive rating in NBC News polling dating back to 1990. Just 7% say those views are “very” positive. “With these numbers, the Democratic Party is not in need of a

Olympian gymnast Simone Biles on Friday night clashed with conservative activist Riley Gaines over a transgender athlete’s participation on a Minnesota high school’s softball team. Gaines railed against a post on social platform X from the Minnesota State High School League that celebrated Champlin Park High School’s first softball state championship win. “Comments off lol,” Gaines wrote, referencing MSHSL’s X settings. “To be expected when your star player is a boy.” The pitcher on Champlin Park’s team identifies as transgender and pitched a shutout, delivering a 6-0 win over Bloomington Jefferson High School on Friday. “You’re truly sick, all of
