Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia has died at the age of 75 after a battle with esophageal cancer, his family said in a statement Wednesday. “It is with immense sadness that we share that our devoted and loving father, husband, brother, friend, and public servant, Congressman Gerald E. Connolly, passed away peacefully at his home this morning surrounded by family,” read a statement posted on Connolly’s X account. Connolly served as the top Democrat on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform until late last month, when he said he would step down because his cancer had returned.

Comments:

Connolly is the third Democrat Representative to die in office this year. The others were Sylvester Turner of TX and Raul Grijalva of AZ.

It beats me why these people never retire and enjoy the time they have left with family. Power crazy? Only THEY have have all the answers to the countries problems? Money? They don't really have a life outside of politics?

Sorry for his family but Fairfax County and the Country are better off without this leftist hack. Unfortunately, his district will probably replace him with someone worse.

I'm in his district and I'm not holding out any hope of electing a conservative to replace him. Fairfax County is trying to become California East.

Like #4, I was one of his constituents, and I can attest to what a vile little man he was. And as #4 said, I harbor no illusion that a Republican, not even a RINO, can get elected in this district. My only hope is that it be the rare D that isn't a looney, bitterly partisan jerk like Connelly was. But given that this is the People's Soviet Socialst Republic of Fairfax, that is probably what we're going to get saddled with.

The daughter of a good friend, who I have known since birth died of this cancer. A real tragedy. She was in her mid thirties and had a wonderful little five year old boy. A terrible disease, and seems to easily move to other parts of the body.

I find myself struggling to wish this far leftwing extremist to RIP. Don't know whether his family is the same as he was so I hope they find solace after his passing. But wouldn't you know it. Another far leftwing extremist stays in office long enough to only be removed by death. I don't know about y'all but such lust for power seems an awful lot like mental illness.

Prior to Friday, President Biden had never been diagnosed with prostate cancer,” the spokesperson said. Word of former President Joe Biden’s diagnosis of aggressive prostate cancer immediately spawned speculation he may have known about the disease while still in the White House — maybe even as he was pursuing a second term in office — but others are pushing back and requesting empathy for the 82-year-old. Urologist Dr. David Shusterman said Biden, who received the finest healthcare while in office, could have known for some time. He said the type of metastasizing cancer the former president has takes years to develop. “This is what I typically would see in a VA hospital, where a patient

Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an "aggressive form" of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, his office said in a statement on Sunday. "Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms," his office said in a statement. "On Friday he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone. While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President

Officials are investigating what caused a Mexican navy tall ship to veer off course and strike the Brooklyn Bridge on May 17, killing two sailors and injuring more than a dozen others on board. Videos shared online captured the training vessel Cuauhtémoc sailing toward the iconic bridge, which connects the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Manhattan. The ship's 147-foot masts, which were shining bright with decorative lights, couldn't clear the arched bridge and were sheared off upon impact. Naval cadets dressed in white uniforms could be seen dangling from the ship's crossbeams. Meanwhile, bystanders at one of the

The Los Angeles City Council voted Wednesday to approve a sweeping package of minimum wage increases for workers in the tourism industry, despite objections from business leaders who warned that the region is already facing a slowdown in international travel. The proposal, billed by labor leaders as the highest minimum wage in the country, would require hotels with more than 60 rooms, as well as companies doing business at Los Angeles International Airport, to pay their workers $30 per hour by 2028. That translates to a 48% hike in the minimum wage for hotel employees over three years. Airport workers

Several years ago, I was getting ready to travel to Austin, Texas, for a conference. Just out of curiosity, I looked into getting there by train. Amtrak was the only option, of course. My trip to Austin would take 36 hours, and the route was something like Atlanta to Washington to Chicago to Austin. It would also cost twice as much as flying. Needless to say, Amtrak was totally out as an option. Despite its impracticality and expense, the left loves to romanticize train travel.
