Why Do Leftists Think That Train Travel
Is the Solution to Everything?

Several years ago, I was getting ready to travel to Austin, Texas, for a conference. Just out of curiosity, I looked into getting there by train. Amtrak was the only option, of course.
My trip to Austin would take 36 hours, and the route was something like Atlanta to Washington to Chicago to Austin. It would also cost twice as much as flying. Needless to say, Amtrak was totally out as an option.
Despite its impracticality and expense, the left loves to romanticize train travel. I think much of it because left-wing media types all live in the Acela corridor, where passenger rail infrastructure is plentiful.

Because they're:
Driving that train
High on cocaine
The correct solution is the Trump Train. All aboard.

It's just typical marxist thinking, 19th century solutions to 21st century problems.

For some reason I have watched videos of train travel posted on YouTube. Amtrak is pretty expensive if you have a sleeper car. Service is OK overall, but nothing to brag about. Accommodations seem cramped and outdated. Food is mediocre. If you are near the front of the train you will hear the whistle blowing loud and clear. And don't expect to arrive on time.

Easy answer.
If you don't think trains are the answer, you are a racist bigot, a xenophobe, have patriarchal tendencies and are looking for a hand maid, smell bad as a result of being deplorable and probably have a Bible stashed somewhere close by.

In general, trains are a PITA.

Europeans don’t get it. We’re Americans. We want to go where we want to go, when we want to go. We have plenty of trains, but they don’t haul people - they haul freight, lots of it, cheaper and more efficient than anyone else. We travel by air when we have to, but we don’t like it. In Europe, you can be in another country in two hours. In America, you MIGHT be in another state.
Lefties love subways and “light rail.” They need CONSTANT subsidies. They NEVER make a profit. They’re crawling with criminals.
Trains are just another reason why liberals should never be allowed to run things.

I remember a novel that had global warming as a side theme in it. Air travel was outlawed, and the solution was to have a train pulling a line of blimps behind it. I'm still waiting for the left to propose this in real life.

Because taking a train in Europe is like going from New York City to Chicago. 12 hours to drive. Twice that on a train. If you're lucky.
I love trains but Amtrak is crap. Poor equipment, poor reliability. They've lost $40 billion since it started. Never made a profit.
Americans want to do things on their schedule. Not someone else's. And when Amtrak is in control your schedule could be WAY delayed.

Because I control my car, but the government controls the train.

Because that's how the commie's do it. Have enough trains and you make private transportation illegal which allows you to have even more control. And it is a huge sucking money laundering scheme.

Europe has a population almost double the US. Most Europeans live in cities, towns etc. That has always been the case because early on, they needed the city walls for protection. Driving in Europe can be a challenge because A, gasoline is VERY expensive, and the roads are very narrow. Also, their cars are soooooo small. Thus trains.
Here, we never relied on fortified cities. Rural living is normal here, and we had/have the room for 20 lane highways.
The European train experience is vastly superior to the US train experience. However, driving cross country in an American sedan is light years better than driving cross country in a two cylinder Fiat. (NEVER AGAIN)

If train travel is so wonderful to the Leftists why are there so many cars in New York City that has an underground rail road system?

Politically incorrect answer: Democrats always choose the most expensive solution to every problem because the kickback factor is the greatest. Thus you get The Big Dig in flat, wet Boston, the Bullet Train in California that nobody will ever ride and of course Amtrak that has never made a dime. I suspect that labor unions play a big part in that unreasonable cost, both construction and operation.Trains made sense in the Old West because you had wide open spaces and straight lines and were afforded some protection from Outlaws, Indian attacks and Buffalo stampedes. So, if you want to double your travel time and double your cost, take the train! I have used multiple subways around the country and I must say that Atlanta had the best system back then, probably not now. Chicago was the worst, both the city and the El.

I booked a train from El Paso to Chicago when my "ride" changed his plans at the last minute. All flights were already sold out. I thought the train might be preferable to a bus ride. It turned out to be a memorable 54 hour trip. Schedules? What schedules?

I like train travel, but it is expensive.
First it is the cost, then the time consumption, then the cost of food on the train and the extra cost for a bed.
And the trains schedule .

A train travels a specific route. It is difficult to leave between stations. If you are trying to capture someone, it's easy to isolate the cars.
It is a tyrant's dream...

The Dems would love to have us all travel in trains that would eventually be as bad as the NYC subways.

Living near Venice, I can offer that train travel here is pretty easy and convenient. Reasonably priced when considering the tolls and parking and gas you'd otherwise spend driving. Never dined on one and the overnighters we've taken have been OK. That said... it can be a PITA arriving and really being better off with a car to get around outside the city centers. What (for the most part) works here in no way would work in the US. Ciao, Cris

Trains, where practical, are a good idea to beat congestion and parking issues. However, for cross country travel, they will never beat the freedom of having a personal vehicle, whether that is a car or a motor home, for seeing the USA at its very best.
