In this allegorical scenario, Honey and Hank moved into a cozy home in a small community in New England 30 years ago. The next day, their neighbor, Irene, brings over a hot, homemade casserole to welcome them to the neighborhood.
Within minutes, Honey and Irene “connect” in a phenomenon known as human chemistry. They just seem to “get” each other. And as their relationship evolves, they learn that they are on the same page on just about everything: raising kids, favorite foods, must-see TV programs, Mommy-and-Me classes, even the crocheting and knitting that their grandmothers taught them.

The work by DOGE and Elon Musk is the single most significant and substantive administrative reform in the entire history of the United States. I am not exaggerating one bit. The thoroughness with which they are reviewing and identifying the inefficiencies and corruption in the fiscal and operational procedures of every major agency in the federal government. It's literally breathtaking to watch.
And because it is so effective, they are being reviled and attacked ferociously by the ineffective or criminally corrupt parties who profited from the bureaucratic mess they are cleaning out. Go, DOGE, go!

A major side effect (maybe the hidden main purpose) of DOGE's efforts is to start curtailing the corrupt illegal extension of government authority. Which has been used for (a) enriching their coffers (b) circumventing the will of the voters when they lose at the ballot. That hurts where it matters.

While I love what DOGE is doing, I wonder what is going to happen next?
They have shut down funding of things that seem fraudulent or not aligned with current US policy.
They have required that spending codes that link spending with legal authorization for the spending are required to issue "checks".
They are modernizing and streamlining financial management in government so that more rapid and thorough review is possible and cross checks between departments to prevent fraud are possible.
And more.
Who is going to continue these efforts?
What enforcement is going to be done?
How often is someone going to review everything to keep it functioning property and legally?
What do we need in the way of laws and public reporting to keep the government's feet to the fire to do this right?
So DOGE kicked over the dumpster and thousands of cockroaches crawled out. Have all the pests been eradicated? How do we prevent a reinfestation?
DOGE has raised awareness, saved some money, as is making some improvements. The work needs to continue in a way that the American People can SEE and REVIEW so that government cannot rebuild its scamming. If a new administration comes in, can they rebuild the corruption? They may have different goals and spend differently. That's OK as long as it is done in accordance with LAW that authorized the spending. Laws should require spending codes for distributions and publicly visible reviews of spending. Bless Trump for kicking this off but it needs to have a life beyond the current Presidency.

#3 I have the same concerns. Yes the roaches are running, but the people who put the dumpster there will harbor them and help them to return.
It makes the next presidential election very crucial. Anything that can be done by executive order can be undone in like manner.
The things that would give me hope: removing USAID from existence (not just relocating it), moving agencies to mid-America where the lobbiests would have to relocate and spread out. Firing the top management of all agency bureaucracies.

When I go to the DOGE site, the ticker says it has saved American taxpayers $165 billion ($1025 per taxpayer) and their goal is one trillion. They have a lot of slicing and dicing to do to get to a trillion dollars. It seems the leftists were cashing checks way more than one trillion as they were ripping off the treasury. Cutting government agencies and jobs should amount to at least $5 trillion. If we can keep DOGE, maybe we can reserve that amount for the next administration. It's costing money to right things in Washington; there needs to be $1000 cut from government for every dollar spent to set things right.

According to c-span a long, long time ago, Henri (de) Tocqueville, a French visitor and observer, warned us back in the 1700s that this would happen. When the people in power would find ways to enrich themselves at the expense of the citizens. Tocqueville loved the idea of the United States and worried for us. Too bad we can't forward him the list of current lying, cheating miscreants who pontificate and blame Elon Musk for the problems.
Thank you, c-span. I have learned a lot from you over the years.

As an American who paid taxes all my life...starting at 14 years old where I worked in a hospital feeding stroke patients....to running my own business as a fish monger...I have done my duty to God and country...so now this group of American geniuses have uncovered the fraud and opened the windows to fresh air....I owe Elon Musk and his Musketeers a vote of thanks and job well done....no wonder Washington DC swamp rats hate them so much.....

Many people brush off political shenanigans by using the blanket expression, "politicians are all alike." The main difference, however, is that republicans are elected, democrats are bought. A quick look at the names on that list of bought politicians reveals the longest-serving, least intelligent, power hungriest human garbage in America. Our newest crop of greedy dummies are no match for those like Pelosi, Schumer or Commie Bern. It takes a lifetime to develop that kind of greed and hunger.
