A sobering report by the Public Building Reforms Board paints a grim picture of federal employees’ blatant disregard for duty.
The report found that 94% of federal workers do not show up in person regularly, highlighting the poor service delivery and complacency in government offices.
The Department of Energy, the Agency for Global Media, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture topped the list of absentee/ absconders with abysmal occupancy rates of 0%, 2%, and 6%, respectively.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (7%), the Environmental Protection Agency (8%), the Department of Labor (9%), and the Nuclear Regulation Commission (9%) followed closely with their appalling numbers.
Federal agencies with the highest office occupancy rates include

We all know that no private corporation could survive this kind of sloth.
It is a Goliath-sized problem.

And when they are at the office, those many trips to the coffee pot must be rather stressful.

Living close by, I can absolutely vouch for what goes on with federal employees in my street (very high salaried and living it up, mind you), neighborhood, and surrounding areas: they sure love taking those Mondays and Fridays off or don't ever go in.
I can't wait for DOGE to get to work.

These numbers are stunning but it helps explain all the spending on travel, designer goods, etc. We have tens of thousands of federal workers living high on the taxpayer-fattened hog.

It's time for President Trump to do the same thing President Reagan did with PATCO - -
- - show up for work on Monday - - or you're FIRED! And President Trump has had lots of practice with saying that.

47 EO#1, report to your physical workplace at your specified work start time on Monday, January 27, 2025 or else you will be fired, period, no joke. Thus begins the GOGE of the Federal Government.

If 75% of that 94% were fired tomorrow, no one would notice. Anyone who was left at those agencies would find their jobs are a lot easier.
Remember when Trump moved the BLM to Grand Junction, Colorado? At least 600 BLM employees refused to move, so they were dismissed. Once thew BLM got to Colorado, nobody noticed the others weren't there. It was business as usual.

In private industry where employees are productively working from home (WFH) the solution is just to remove the dedicated office and move to shared offices. Most office jobs do not require people to be in the office everyday, in fact if you have a long commute like me, you are should be more productive WFH. Managers still need to verify productivity and if someone isn't more productive WFH, then they should be required to go in. Of course if an office is over staffed then the non-productive need to go.

Then sell all the government buildings they are not using. And institute sign on monitoring to see that these employees are actually doing work. That will eliminate over half of them. Change their pay agreements to work done, not pay for being there, as they aren't there.

How much of this started with the pandemic? Stay at home and when the pandemic was over, they never returned or only had to show up 3 days a week. That's what happened at my former workplace and that wasn't even the government. The product I worked on went from over 1500 employees to less than 100 when I left. I worked there for over 25 years and only in the last couple did the workforce actually produce less and that was because they were cutting funding to various projects. Last couple of years I could have done all my work in a 20 hour week instead of a 40 hour week. It was one of the reasons I left.
I never understood work from home. I rarely did it. I valued that boundary and did not allow work into my home whenever possible, especially when work was demanding we be available 24x7x365.
I always remember Fridays. Most people took Friday off, and many others made Friday a half day. Workplace was virtually empty. Especially during summer. I enjoyed it. Fewer interruptions. Management appreciated it too. Especially when the inevitable critsit occurred.
Seriously doubt Washington has real work for all those people. What they really are doing is buying votes by offering jobs.

Cool.
Close down their office buildings BEFORE laying them off. Where will they go to complain?

Start with retirements and early retirements. Then, tell the leftovers either they show up and justify what they are doing or they are gone. Move the department to the interior of the country. If they don't want to move, fire them.

Abuse of sick leave was common where I used to work. Management was afraid to say anything about it because the abuser would stomp up to the union and open a hornet's nest. So the rest of us suffered.
It was usually the laziest and most inept doing it, but at least when they were gone they weren't breaking anything.
Of course, with all their leave wasted, when a real emergency came up they would beg for leave donations.

I'm wondering how many of those are really, primarily field jobs. I would sure get Dept of Ag being out among the populace.
Personally, I worked for 20yrs from home, but my primary job was a very large service area, no fixed hours...etc. It worked best for my private employer and I.

These must be the 'non-essential' employees that get a temporary vacation when there is no budget passed.
Are they counting the Chief Executive who may be physically present but not otherwise?

Make this REAL simple for them, either show up in the office for 8 hours, five days every week, or you are fired.

These are the non-essential personnel that are exempt whenever there's a weather emergency or a holiday. Send them 2 weeks pay and a pink slip and tell them to learn how to code!

Order them to show up for work every day.
Get rid of the break rooms and/or cafeterias.
Close all but one rest room for each sex.
Make them pay for their own parking.
If they protest, get rid of them, Reagan style.
