I went on a trip through that area back in 2002 and distinctly recall seeing Tsunami warning signs in every low elevation roadway. They seem to be well-prepared for this eventuality.

We are located 30 miles inland from the coast in the mountains, directly east of the quake. We had mild rolling here. The automatic tsunami warning from S.F. up to the Oregon border has gone into effect. Standard procedure. TK is manning his ham radio. The fishing fleets from Fort Bragg and Point Arena are already out at sea. The Cobb area in Lake County is about 30 miles due east of us. It is known as "The Geysers", on the south shore of Clear Lake with its ancient and active volcano. They are having swarms of quakes with the highest reaching a 5. TK is also monitoring the CA Earthquake site. There are swarms of quakes across the area where the San Andreas fault meets the Juan DeFuca plate. Perhaps the dream of the rest of country will come true, and the California coast will shear off. OK by us...we're on the continental side of the fault! Quakes always remind me of my Dad. He took them to be betting opportunities. Each of us would guess the Richter and put a dollar on the kitchen table. The closest to the reading got all the dollars!

We live in the SF Bay Area. Tsunami warning has just been lifted for our area, don’t know about coastal areas further south such as Santa Cruz and Monterey.

The type of fault that moved (strike-slip) typically produces no tsunamis. But that didn't stop them from issuing the 'extreme level' alert.

The JDF plate (to which #5 refers) is sliding under the North American Plate, TOWARDS the continent. And the Pacific Plate (on which the rest of CA's coast sits) is sliding northwestward, ALONG the coast. So the whole idea of CA falling into the ocean is absurd. But media pundits and standup comics still get a laugh or two over it, from time to time.

#10 has it correct. Very bad place to have a medium size quake like this because it could be a foreshock, as I recall that fault area has produced quakes close to 9 and huge tsunamis that killed thousands all the way across the Pacific in Japan. Of course last time it happen there were very few living alone the west coast. Google says "Cascadia subduction zone earthquake on January 26, 1700, with an estimated moment magnitude of 8.7–9.2". Map shows the Cascadia subduction zone starts right where this 7.0 occurred. These faults can go like a zipper.

IDF demolishes Syrian navy in Latakia 0 replies

The Israeli Navy carried out a significant operation on Monday night, targeting and destroying much of the Syrian regime’s naval fleet. Missile ships struck numerous vessels armed with anti-ship missiles at the Al-Baida and Latakia ports, aiming to prevent these weapons from falling into the hands of hostile entities such as the salafist rebels who have taken over Syria. At the same time, reports from Reuters and Hezbollah-affiliated Lebanese network Al-Mayadeen indicated that IDF units crossed the buffer zone and advanced deep into Syrian territory, a claim the IDF denied. According to regional and Syrian security sources, Israeli forces are now positioned approximately 15.5 miles from Damascus

The Israeli Air Force carried out over 300 strikes in Syria in the early hours of Tuesday morning, according to Israeli security sources. Some 70%-80% of the capabilities of former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad's military have been destroyed. Most of the strikes were in southern Syria and around the city of Damascus, targeting Syrian army bases, with an emphasis on air defense systems and stores of surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles. Israeli security sources indicate that these actions have significantly expanded the air force's operational freedom. Additionally, there have been attempts by Hezbollah to seize Syrian weaponry. On Monday evening, two Syrian security sources told Reuters that IAF jets

FBI Director Christopher Wray plans to resign on or before Inauguration Day, according to recent reports. The move, widely seen as preemptive, reflects growing pressure from Republican lawmakers, led by Senator Charles Grassley, and signals yet another shift in leadership for an agency that has been at the center of political and institutional controversies over the past several years. While Wray’s resignation isn’t entirely unexpected, it raises important questions about the future of the FBI, the challenges it faces, and the public’s trust in one of the nation’s most powerful institutions. Making fun of Pravda media "fact checks" is, perhaps, a little too easy at times. But doing so is a good reminder of just how distorted their worldview is. The Politifact "fact check" on conservative complaints (I'm pretty sure that the complaints are more "common sense" than conservative) that aid to Africa has nothing to do with aid to North Carolina is a perfect example of how the government hypnotized think.
