Exposure to lead in gasoline during childhood resulted in many millions of excess cases of psychiatric disorders over the last 75 years, a new study estimates.
Lead was banned from automobile fuel in 1996. The study, published Wednesday in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, looked at its lasting impact in the U.S. by analyzing childhood blood lead levels from 1940 to 2015. According to the findings, the national population experienced an estimated 151 million excess mental health disorders attributable to exposure to lead from car exhaust during children’s early development.

Question. With lead banned from gas in 1996...
...has mental illness declined or increased since then?

Implying that we know how many cases there would have been without the lead in gasoline. As if we can prove nothing else was the cause (or contributed to it).

I have no confidence in any of these reports. Studies are being released that say everything produced kills us, everything we eat kills us. But there is this common sense: Not using products leaves us exposed in the wild, and not eating will also kill us. Please do not bother me with any report from "experts" that tried killing us all with mandatory shots.

I've siphoned it, got mouthfuls of it, drove cars that ran on hi-octane leaded gas in the 60's, serviced Air Force planes w/avgas, refueled helicopters with JP-4 and used octane additives and I've made it to 82. I think the mental health disorders are from two things, liberals in schools and liberal politicians. But I'm sure, if we as a nation, throw enough tax-payer funds at this problem, we can fight it forever. Like every other health emergency, we can never cure it, but we can enrich a segment of the medical profession and big pharma!

Another study suggests from experts. Tomorrow there will be another study that suggests something. Send grant money to me so I can study and make a suggestion.

So how do they explain the huge increase in mental health issues (thinking a boy can become a girl, etc) in the kids born after 1996 that have never been exposed to lead in gasoline? And why study this anyway, there is nothing that can be done about it? Obviously, just more tax money spent on something that accomplishes nothing.

Another compelling reason to shut down evil oil, convert to renewables and offload such illness onto the third world child expendables.

If both lead in gasoline and fluorine in water both reduce mental developmental in children, then we must be looking forward to an extremely bright future. Lead was banned in gasoline in 1996 but the catalytic converters were required in new automobiles in 1975 and that is when use of unleaded gasoline really began. The 1975 and later year models of autos caused a progressive reduction of the use of leaded gasoline, so the benefits of that factor should have become readily apparent by the 1990's. However I don't think I have seen anything to suggest that young adults are any brighter than the generations that were heavily exposed to leaded gasoline exhaust fumes. There must be something else detracting from their mental development. Could it be the fault of the education system? Perhaps the Department of Education has suppressed mental development.

Not to mention the definitions, classification, and identification of "mental illness" has shifted around a lot in that time, with more and more criminal acts being redefined as mental illness, and political opponents being dismissed as mentally ill (the way the Dems spoke of people who support Trump, pray Rosaries, oppose abortion, support the 2nd amendment, advocate fiscal self-discipline, refuse to affirm gender ideology, et al)
Must be all those lead Rosaries...

Garbage in garbage out study. The original health concern was not mental illness but high blood pressure. The rise in mental illness is primarily in women born after 1996 and middle age that are white, college educated, privileged Democrat and go by the name Karen.

Dow Chemical Company was a major supplier of tetraethyl lead back in the '20's I think...although the Ethyl Corporation really came up with the Idea around the end of WW I. Our high performance airplanes in WW II would not have performed nearly as well without lead.... Lots of noise being made now about lead...what about the millions of individuals who in the last 5 years have been maimed and murdered by Big Pharma and their bogus Vaccines? What long-term increase in autism will be linked to these vaccines? This is NOW...not 50 years ago.
