The unsung warriors of 'The Price Is Right'

After a decade of fighting the most powerful man in daytime television, Holly Hallstrom had come to the end of her road. Cresting a hilltop deep in California's wine country, Hallstrom clutched the wheel of her beat-up white Honda as it puttered to a stop. She wasn't just out of gas. She was out of money, down to her last 48 cents. She'd sold all her belongings to wage what everyone told her was a battle she was certain to lose: taking on Bob Barker, her former boss at "The Price Is Right."

We used to watch that show for years at work in the lunch room. I thought model Brandi Sherwood was about the prettiest thing in the world. Sorry to hear all that was going on. Seems to happen in all walks of life when you give someone power over another. They will use it.

Business Insider is a strange title for a site that isn't devoted to business per se, rarely has 'insider' anything and features the usual MSM groupthink on politics. GOP bad, Dems good. On the linked page there's even a 'Why Gen Z loves Kamala' story. Ugh. For a kickoff let's dispense with #metoo which was, like all so-called grassroots movements, a cynical premeditated means of targeting political opponents for destruction or extortion. The founder of #metoo has a face that could stop a clock and no person with the gift of eyesight could see ANYONE sexually harassing her. And, as we discovered, #metoo escaped its moorings and destroyed the careers of...Democrats like Weinstein and Lauer therefore it was quietly abandoned. The multi-generational fascination with TPIR and the models was intense in the pre-internet era. Fair play to Holly (who I always believed was a redhead) for her fight but this story is hardly uncharted territory given all we already know about the Barker/Parkinson tryst. TV is a high-pressure, financially-risky, time-sensitive business. Tempers and sharp words are part and parcel of it. Criticisms made on a professional level aren't always personal. But, as usual, the author conflates the two. There is no excuse for the usual -isms but not all conflict is abuse or criminal.

No mention of former announcer, Rod Roddy, the pudgy one who spoke about his trips to Bangkok to "have his suits tailor made." Even back then, it kind of made me go, "hmm." After reading about the sexual work climate on TPIR, I'm really thinking, "HMMMMM."

Approximately 60 drones were launched from Ukraine overnight to attack the Russian capital city of Moscow. This is the largest escalation of drone/missile attacks into Russia so far. The attack comes, predictably, as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Nat Sec Advisor Mike Waltz and President Trump envoy Steve Witkoff arrive in Saudi Arabia for preliminary face-to-face talks with Ukraine officials. [Snip] 60+ drones launched against Russia’s largest city is intended to draw a major retaliation from Russian President Vladimir Putin, that is what the UK/EU and NATO apparatus want. Alex Padilla was shoved, tackled, handcuffed, and detained while attempting to fulfill his constitutional duties,” Caucus chairman Adriano Espaillat (D-NY) said in a statement: That in itself would be a scandal, but the assailants were staff working for Kristi Noem, the secretary of Homeland Security. This escalation is dangerous and unacceptable. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus stands with our brother, Alex Padilla, a leader who represents all Californians.

Walz has expressed his admiration for communism, and he had a Chinese girlfriend who almost certainly was an agent of the CCP. So it shouldn’t be surprising that, interviewed by Neera Tanden of the Center for American Progress, he unleashed a couple of howlers. Here, he expresses contempt for the military parade scheduled for tomorrow. Walz will skip the event, choosing to participate instead in an anti-Trump rally. Count on Democrats to put a face to Republican efforts to cut federal benefits, rolling out potential victims who elicit the most sympathy so the media can broadcast their plight to the nation. But Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s choice to counter a significant GOP cut to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) was not exactly from central casting. SNAP helps feed more than 40 million low-income Americans, which is a crisis all to itself that DC conveniently overlooks, and Republicans are advocating for nearly $300 billion in cuts through 2034, which includes pushing some of the costs down to states.
