House votes overwhelmingly to save Speaker
Johnson from Marjorie Taylor Greene's
push to oust him

WASHINGTON — Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and his allies beat back a dramatic effort by far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to oust him from power on Wednesday, ending — for now — months of threats against his speakership. The lopsided vote to "table" or kill Greene's motion to vacate the speaker's chair was 359-43. Just 10 Republicans voted with Greene, seven Democrats voted present. There were 196 Republicans and 163 Democrats who voted to kill Greene's motion; along with the 11 Republicans, 32 Democrats voted to move forward with her motion to oust Johnson. The vote came after weeks of threats from Greene

I understand her point and purpose. She wants political purity. I agree Johnson working with the other party to pass a $60 billion garbage Ukraine bill was wrong. But we're so close to the next election that there's no point in what she tried at this time. This is an issue of bad timing not being wrong about where she stands.

Sadly, there are many who believe anyone to the left of MTG or Matt Gaetz are RINOs soon to be replaced by True Believers in November. But here in PA, some Republicans are running in districts where Democrats are registering more than Republicans. Hard to believe, but it's true in the ring districts around Philly and Harrisburg and they're going to be tight. Forcing their votes on the Speaker now is stupid.

I didn’t really want to go through the ordeal again, of having to get another Speaker selected, so I’m glad it was avoided. On the other hand, the Swamp protects its own. The very best the GOP can do with a majority is to give up ground to the radical left a little less quickly.

The animus fr MTG is getting a little heavy in here. I can see both sides of this issue. I also feel the utter frustration knowing that there seems to be zero consequences for betraying the trust of the American people. Johnson and his ilk are not held accountable when they betray us, not one but many times. No one wants what the House is passing. Well, the only ones who want it are the ones benefiting from it and it is not the good old American tax payer. Just once I would love to see these traitors pay for their betrays. One more thing, save your verbal abuse for your real enemies. As much as you may not like MTG, she is standing up for what she believes in. Direct your anger where it is well deserved…Mike Johnson should be hearing from each of you with the same vigor with which you are denigrating MTG.

FTA: Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D., chair of the Republican Main Street Caucus - "We’re going to do what adults do; we’re going to ignore the tantrums and instead work to actually govern this country.” Also: “Amid this circus, House Democrats have been the adults in the room,” said Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va. “We have too much work to do to waste time on petty political games.” Seems the general attitude is rather like british parliament than our own unique form of Constitutional government. "We are not amused at the antics, we need to get back to the business of ruling our inferiors and enriching ourselves and our interests" Not comparing, but our Founding Fathers were NOT career politicians. They were the outlaws. Their refusal to submit to the elite political establishment resulted in the birth of our great United States of America. There would have been no truly "good" time to bring this to the floor, but maybe she was actually "representing" her constituents and how they felt? I don't know.

MTG picked the wrong battle at the wrong time. Let us briefly review the House Speaker's responsibilities - 1. Act as spokesperson for the party in the majority. Explain legislative actions to other DC officials and the public. This includes explaining such actions to the President regardless of who sits at the Resolute Desk. Oversee House committee assignments. Collaborate with House Rules Committee to organize floor debates. This is why Johnson is called the House Speaker. 2. Oversee legislative business on the House floor. Structure floor debates to advantage legislative priorities. Require adherence to House rules and procedures. 3. Oversee House accounting and procurement processes. If MTG had a bone to pick with her leadership, she should have been consulting with Majority Leader Scalise. Maybe she was. I don't know. Bottom line for me and for what it is worth - Johnson and his pubbie colleagues must preserve their House majority at all costs and for the foreseeable future. Yes, passing this Ukraine bill was dead wrong. #7 reasons correctly. And just be thankful we don't have to look at Nanie's mug on tv anymore.

#28, I am conservative and if you want to call me a Democrat lite, your opinion is in error. I will not support a party that is avidly trying to take God out of society. With that said, it is the battles a person chooses and the timing. Look how many times it went to a vote just to get Mike Johnson. No I don't agree with Mike Johnson but look how many Republican reps voted for the last bill. Glenn Grothman runs around saying he is a conservative in his state but he voted for it. I get what MTG was trying to do and while the battle needs to be fought, it is the wrong timing. I also fault the RNC for being ambiguous and undefined on what a Republican is. . .

I think it was a good thing to do. We have a Spealer whose word is not to be trusted. Promises made and promises not kept by him. One by one, Representative Greene listed things he said he would do, and what he did instead. What made him change his mind? Only the Speaker knows what is controlling his choices. MTG knew she would not have enough votes to get him to vacate the Chair, but it is good to know what you are working with.

Even as President Joe Biden was delivering his perfunctory Holocaust Remembrance speech earlier this week, decrying the "ferocious surge" in antisemitism on college campuses and prattling on about how he would never forget the Oct. 7 attack -- which saw over 1,200 Israelis murdered, raped and kidnapped -- the president was planning to stop the Jewish state from destroying modern-day Nazis. On Wednesday, Biden told CNN's Erin Burnett that if Israel invades the city of Rafah in Gaza -- where remaining battalions of Hamas terrorists are holed up behind civilians -- the U.S. would stop supplying Israel with offensive and precision weapons. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is comparing the pro-Israel vigilantes who attacked a pro-Palestinian “encampment” at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) last week to the Capitol rioters of January 6, 2021. As Breitbart News reported, the encampment bullied Jewish students, assaulted journalists, and blocked access to campus for students, faculty, and the public for several days. Bass and university authorities did nothing to stop them. In fact, security contractors and law enforcement said that they had been told not to intervene. One UCLA security guard told Breitbart News that the activists had been placed in charge of them and were guiding their deployment.

Initial filings for unemployment benefits have hit their highest level since late August 2023, a potential sign that an otherwise robust labor market is changing. Jobless claims totaled a seasonally adjusted 231,000 for the week ending on May 4, up 22,000 from the previous period and higher than the Dow Jones estimate for 214,000, the Labor Department reported Thursday. It was the highest claims number since Aug. 26, 2023. The increase in claims follows a string of mostly strong hiring reports, though hiring in April was light compared with expectations. Also, job openings have been declining amid expectations that the labor market is likely to slow through the year. The report also

Let’s face it: the spate of unrest and violence inspired by antisemitism is not exactly casting the left in a favorable light. Since the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip began on October 7, left-wing activists have been staging protests and rallies on college campuses and in the streets, railing against Israel and spreading Hamas talking points. Many of these demonstrations have resulted in violence against Jewish people – especially in universities. Anti-Israel activists have issued threats and engaged in vandalism as a way of expressing their hatred of the Jewish state, which has placed high-profile leftists in a tricky position.

I keep seeing commenters and people on Twitter saying ‘Send them to Gaza.’ Well, here you go. FOX News reports: College anti-Israel agitators could be sent to Gaza under new House GOP bill ~ A new House Republican bill would send any person charged and convicted for illegal activity on a college campus to Gaza for at least six months. [Snip] Those convicted would be forced to serve a minimum six-month community service sentence in Gaza, where Israel is currently waging a brutal campaign to eradicate Hamas and rescue the remaining Israelis that terrorists took hostage in October.

So much for a border crisis. The Biden administration recently finalized regulations that will provide taxpayer-funded benefits to individuals who came into this country lacking authorization, by defining them as “lawfully present.” (snip)Apart from the clever way the administration has attempted to avoid legal challenges, the entire premise of the rule seems rather Orwellian. The idea that a president can unilaterally declare a group of individuals “lawfully” present without the consent of Congress defies logic, not to mention the basic principles of “our democracy” that the left purports to care so much about.

Dozens of illegal immigrants in Denver issued a lengthy list of demands that they say must be met before they agreed to leave the encampments and move to shelters funded by the city. The group of illegal aliens sent a list of 13 demands to Democrat Mayor Mike Johnston on Wednesday which include, access to a free immigration lawyer, fresh food, and unlimited showers. The issue arose after Johnston petitioned to have the group moved to more permanent shelters. Migrants will cook their own food with fresh, culturally appropriate ingredients provided by the City instead of premade meals- rice, chicken,

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) celebrated President Joe Biden declaring that the United States would withhold artillery and other weapons if Israel invaded Hamas’s last stronghold, Rafah. In a post on X, Omar stated that Biden’s comments about “not supplying” Israel with the weapons to invade Rafah were “what young people across the country” had been protesting about, referring to the anti-Israel encampments and protests that were established on university and college campuses across the nation.

Joe Biden sat down for a one-on-one interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett to discuss his dumpster fire economy and 2024 strategy. Biden thought he was going to have a softball interview with CNN but he completely crumbled when Erin Burnett fact-checked him to his face. Burnett pointed out that the economy is the most important issue for voters. “It’s also true, Mr. President that voters, by a wide margin, trust Trump more on the economy. They say that in polls,” Erin Burnett said.

It’s not enough that pro-Hamas mayhem has overtaken college campuses nationwide. We now have these students, though many are probably professional agitators, going on hunger strikes to protest the war in Gaza. We should put “hunger strike” in quotes since this is intermittent fasting. These kids are taking snack breaks—it’s the weakest sauce hunger strike ever. Yet, at Princeton, one student who claims to be immunocompromised complained that she was dying from her self-imposed hunger strike and blamed the school for weakening her. [Video] “This is absolutely unfair. My peers and I, we are starving. We are physically exhausted. I am quite literally shaking right now,

In a now widely seen CNN interview, President Joe Biden stated that “I made it clear that if they go into Rafah – they haven’t gone in Rafah yet – if they go into Rafah, I’m not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities – that deal with that problem.” We’re going to continue to make sure Israel is secure in terms of Iron Dome and their ability to respond to attacks that came out of the Middle East recently,”
