WASHINGTON — Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and his allies beat back a dramatic effort by far-right Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to oust him from power on Wednesday, ending — for now — months of threats against his speakership.
The lopsided vote to "table" or kill Greene's motion to vacate the speaker's chair was 359-43. Just 10 Republicans voted with Greene, seven Democrats voted present. There were 196 Republicans and 163 Democrats who voted to kill Greene's motion; along with the 11 Republicans, 32 Democrats voted to move forward with her motion to oust Johnson. The vote came after weeks of threats from Greene

It is now very questionable who she helps and who she hurts. Not that I trust Johnson these days....such a damned bizarre sewer in DC, damned near impossible to tell the "good guys" from the "bad guys" half of the time.

Johnson looks and acts like Stephen Colbert's younger, dimmer brother. How is that a good thing? Greene did the correct, if futile, thing here.

I understand her point and purpose. She wants political purity. I agree Johnson working with the other party to pass a $60 billion garbage Ukraine bill was wrong. But we're so close to the next election that there's no point in what she tried at this time.
This is an issue of bad timing not being wrong about where she stands.

maggot mike does Not have any allies. he's stuck w/ so many knives, from his 'allies', he looks like a porcupine.
imo, this was shown by an amazing exercise: 32 dems and only 11 gop's tried to protect the Chair--not the
lying, manipulative, weak, treacherous posterior claiming to park itself in the chair as a GOP.
now you have 359 quaking unipartiers to choose from.

Sadly, there are many who believe anyone to the left of MTG or Matt Gaetz are RINOs soon to be replaced by True Believers in November. But here in PA, some Republicans are running in districts where Democrats are registering more than Republicans. Hard to believe, but it's true in the ring districts around Philly and Harrisburg and they're going to be tight. Forcing their votes on the Speaker now is stupid.

I didn’t really want to go through the ordeal again, of having to get another Speaker selected, so I’m glad it was avoided. On the other hand, the Swamp protects its own. The very best the GOP can do with a majority is to give up ground to the radical left a little less quickly.

The animus fr MTG is getting a little heavy in here. I can see both sides of this issue. I also feel the utter frustration knowing that there seems to be zero consequences for betraying the trust of the American people. Johnson and his ilk are not held accountable when they betray us, not one but many times. No one wants what the House is passing. Well, the only ones who want it are the ones benefiting from it and it is not the good old American tax payer. Just once I would love to see these traitors pay for their betrays.
One more thing, save your verbal abuse for your real enemies. As much as you may not like MTG, she is standing up for what she believes in. Direct your anger where it is well deserved…Mike Johnson should be hearing from each of you with the same vigor with which you are denigrating MTG.

Do not trust Massie - he is a DeSantis supporter and the hurried vote was his big push. MTG had dropped the vote but Massie fired her up by co-sponsoring. GOP lead in house is 1 - Lose that and the rats will block Trump from the ballot. Massie knows this and it will make DeSantis next up. Massie is smarter than MTG and she got played.

She was right and wrong at the same time. Johnson needs to be replaced, but it's the wrong time to do it.
We can put up with himj until the election and if the Republicans win the majority, find a real Republican speaker then.

to risk losing what little hold we have on the House w/a hare-brained scheme with no support and no plan is irresponsible. imagine if we lost all the chairmanships and investigative power. she is a loose cannon. those that want a change should be working to win election and putting forth a candidate to replace Johnson who has overwhelming support in January 2025. she needs to be corraled - or dumped.

FTA: Rep. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D., chair of the Republican Main Street Caucus - "We’re going to do what adults do; we’re going to ignore the tantrums and instead work to actually govern this country.” Also: “Amid this circus, House Democrats have been the adults in the room,” said Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-Va. “We have too much work to do to waste time on petty political games.”
Seems the general attitude is rather like british parliament than our own unique form of Constitutional government. "We are not amused at the antics, we need to get back to the business of ruling our inferiors and enriching ourselves and our interests"
Not comparing, but our Founding Fathers were NOT career politicians. They were the outlaws. Their refusal to submit to the elite political establishment resulted in the birth of our great United States of America.
There would have been no truly "good" time to bring this to the floor, but maybe she was actually "representing" her constituents and how they felt? I don't know.

MTG picked the wrong battle at the wrong time. Let us briefly review the House Speaker's responsibilities -
1. Act as spokesperson for the party in the majority. Explain legislative actions to other DC officials and the public. This includes explaining such actions to the President regardless of who sits at the Resolute Desk. Oversee House committee assignments. Collaborate with House Rules Committee to organize floor debates. This is why Johnson is called the House Speaker.
2. Oversee legislative business on the House floor. Structure floor debates to advantage legislative priorities. Require adherence to House rules and procedures.
3. Oversee House accounting and procurement processes.
If MTG had a bone to pick with her leadership, she should have been consulting with Majority Leader Scalise. Maybe she was. I don't know.
Bottom line for me and for what it is worth - Johnson and his pubbie colleagues must preserve their House majority at all costs and for the foreseeable future. Yes, passing this Ukraine bill was dead wrong. #7 reasons correctly. And just be thankful we don't have to look at Nanie's mug on tv anymore.

#28, I am conservative and if you want to call me a Democrat lite, your opinion is in error. I will not support a party that is avidly trying to take God out of society. With that said, it is the battles a person chooses and the timing. Look how many times it went to a vote just to get Mike Johnson. No I don't agree with Mike Johnson but look how many Republican reps voted for the last bill. Glenn Grothman runs around saying he is a conservative in his state but he voted for it. I get what MTG was trying to do and while the battle needs to be fought, it is the wrong timing. I also fault the RNC for being ambiguous and undefined on what a Republican is. . .

I think it was a good thing to do. We have a Spealer whose word is not to be trusted. Promises made and promises not kept by him. One by one, Representative Greene listed things he said he would do, and what he did instead. What made him change his mind? Only the Speaker knows what is controlling his choices. MTG knew she would not have enough votes to get him to vacate the Chair, but it is good to know what you are working with.

Scott Wong, the Nothing But Clinton Network (penned by yours truly back in 1994) and the fake news in general just love to label anyone who goes against their favorites the democrats as "far Right." That also goes for the democrat lapdog RINO's like Milquetoast Mikey Johnson. I have yet to read or hear any of these presstitutes get off their knees and call democrats "far-left." As far as MTG goes. I support her efforts 100%. She fearlessly stands up for her constituents, We the People and calls a spade a spade. Doing so brings attention from corrupt democrats, hornless RINOs and their media butt flatulence sniffers in the press.
