Move over California and New York, a new state is in contention for the 'most dysfunctional' in America.
Illinois is grappling with a string of issues which have triggered a rise in residents departing the state.
The state has struggled to add jobs and its public pension debt has ballooned to nearly $150 billion. Meanwhile, its population has declined, hurting tax income. Conservative thinktanks have now grouped Illinois with other blue states like New York and California, which have also faced an exodus amid issues ranging from immigration to crime.

That PUBLIC pension debt is how Democrat-run states have solidified their power base.
After all, when you get a pension that is significantly higher than any social security payout, you gain loyalty votes to continue the gravy train regardless of your personal beliefs.
Most are based on a percentage, 2%-3%, multiplied by how many years you worked.
So, law enforcement tends to skew to the 3% level so if you have 25 years worked x 3% = 75% pension of your highest earnings year.
Many LEO will end up over $100,000 salary after 25 years which then equates to $75,000 per year (plus cost of living increases) for your pension alone.
A clerk working at a college or university may only have 2% but likely works longer than LEOers. So, if you work 35 years x 2% = 70% for your pension amount (plus cost of living increases).
Even if you would normally be conservative you vote Democrat to maintain the salary, benefits and pension.
Then, keep increasing the number of public employees to keep increasing the number of voters.

We legally reside in Indiana and my husband worked for an employer based in illinois as a truck driver. Illinois state tax was deducted from my husbands paychecks as is the norm BUT when we filed our taxes we still had to pay Illinois tax as well as Indiana state income tax. That’s how broke they are. And that’s bullshite.

IL has been a corrupt and financial basket case for decades. I've had a front row seat living in IN.

Chicago is right up there with NYC, San Francisco, and LA.

This isn't news to me. Illinois has been shedding residents for years. And they keep raising property taxes (because homes in states people flee always increase in value...) to pay for the state employees defined benefits retirement packages.

Dems struggle for the lead in the "most dysfuncitonal state" contest. All Marxist idiots, wrecking everything that they touch.

I only rarely find myself there, and when I do I get out as soon as I can and spend as little money as possible. Anyplace that doesn't trust me with my guns is unworthy of my business.

Don't worry, Illinois. There'll be another pandemic or crisis the Democrats in D.C. will use as an excuse to throw stimulus or bailout money at you. Officially, it'll be to alleviate the "crisis", but wink and a nod, you can shore up your failing budgets with it without having to change your policy.

As more business & people leave IL will have to deal with more illegal parasites as the tax base collapses.
Thus the Red States grow in economic power & population.

The only reason NY and Illinois' pension funds haven't collapsed is federal bailouts.
Vote buying is expensive.

If this article does not give you the “Willie's” about what the Democrats have done to Chicago and increasingly the State of Illinois, check out the story that came out today about the Chicago Teachers Union demands! If those demands are circulated among the Chicago Public Schools student body according to the article only about 21% of the students in the higher grades would be proficient enough in reading to figure out what their teachers are demanding.
