Seattle has shuttered its gifted and talented programs because the school board determined they had too many white and Asian students. The district began phasing out its Highly Capable Cohort schools and classrooms for advanced students in the 2021-22 school year because they found it had too many racial inequities. School bosses said black and Hispanic students were underrepresented at the schools. According to Seattle Public School data, of the highly capable students in the 2022-23 school year, 52 percent were white, 16 percent were Asian and 3.4 percent were black.

By that logic, they should cancel the Seattle Seahawks NFL season because of tremendous racial inequities. How many Asian or Hispanic players do they have? What about the NBA? How about some reparations for the asians and hispanics.

This is what happened to schools all over the south when Civil Rights started. The goal was to make the education for black children got better. All it did was make education for white kids worse because no matter whether the child should have been promoted to the next grade, teachers told my mother, who wanted my brother held back a year, they couldn't do it. No matter what any child learned or didn't learn, they had to be promoted.

It's no wonder that they can't find enough black students. I'm sure they're telling the black students at an early age that the system is against them and they can't succeed. A self fulfilling prophecy.

LOL..there better not be any liberal parents complaining about this-they voted for this crap so live with it and watch as your children get dumber by the day. Do not worry they will soon leave school knowing what pronoun to use but will not have the education to survive the real world. This is ok because this will make the minorities feel better about themselves and no longer will have their feelings hurt. Please do not move to Florida and Texas because you will are not smart enough to change your political views and you will move and vote the same way. Your children have learned at an early age what being a liberal is about.

This is the Public School System we're talking about. No worries about the parents who are able to send their Children to Private Schools. There they will get the best education and yes, they will have AP classes for those Gifted Children. Too Bad someone on the School Board thought it was "unfair" to the Black kids that they didn't get into the AP Classes. Sadly, it just helped the Black kids think they don't have to WORK to get what they want. Those kids will never get anywhere in life because they are not taught if they work hard and show up for school, they can move up the ladder and get themselves out of poverty and maybe even out of the tough neighborhood they live in. The School Board should have worked harder to teach the kids that, and maybe more of them would have made it into those AP classes!

Don't keep ANYONE who has worked in that White House. Trump should have one of his most trusted Friends, (from his first time in the Oval Office) to take care of hiring only Conservatives! Is there a more racist approach you can think of? Black and Hispanic kids can't keep up with Caucasian and Asian kids so keep a lid on the Caucasian and Asian kids? Our answer to outcomes we don't like is to do our best to make all conform to the outcome we don't like?

My sons were in Gifted and Talented programs in 3rd and 5th grades. They were the best two years of their educational life. Gifted kids have particular traits beyond their academic advantages. My younger son's teacher once told me that she had to spend afternoon class time straightening out playground football problems because the kids knew all the picky little rules, and who had violated what, and why it was important, and how it had impacted the outcome of the games, etc. They threw out the G & T programs in favor of "inclusion," because, in the exact words of a teacher at a PTO meeting, "Kids are all alike. They're all alike on the basketball court, so they're all alike in the classroom." Um, no. You don't see the 4th grade basketball stars choosing to play with kids with two left feet. And when you team up a smart kid with the "included" kids, one kid does all the work, and the rest get to coast. My s-i-l, who was a special education teacher said it is also unfair to the included kids, because no one is teaching them the life skills they will need to survive in the real world. She used making change as an example. I could go on and on about this. It's outrageous that Seattle is doing this.

Seattle is scrambling to raise the $5,000-a-day hotel costs for 240 asylum seekers who overtook a school play area with tents and foreign flags in a takeover locals called 'threatening.'. Seattle City Council members say they're working with Mayor Bruce Harrell's office to find an emergency solution to the cadre of migrants who camped at Garfield Tennis Courts, part of a community center used by local schools. A $50,000 donation has paid for the migrants and their children to return to the Quality Inn Hotel in Kent, but it's not clear what they will do when the cash for 61 $70-a-night rooms runs out next week.
