Thus far, 2024 has not been a banner year if you want to be employed as a journalist in the mainstream media. January featured layoffs at the Los Angeles Times, Sports Illustrated, Time, National Geographic, and Business Insider. Downsizing at cable news networks, usually unheard of in an election year, continues, and even National Public Radio has cut staff. Many longtime reporters at places such as the Washington Post have taken buyouts as the newspaper struggles to restructure its business model.
Jack Shafer of Politico captured the current mood well: “Journalists across the country burst into flames of panic this week, as bad news for the news business crested

We would give them a break if they quit pretending to be journalists and do the job correctly.

Most people just want the truth in reporting, not warmed over propaganda.

My own alma mater, Texas A&M, shuttered its school of journalism years ago and last year's attempt to restart it with a 'woke' head not only went down in flames but cost the school president her job. I had originally thought the closure was a lost opportunity to train right-minded journalists but there haven't been any who were uncorrupted by leftist arrogance who could staff such a school. My own city newspaper is now owned by a regional entity and no longer prints a daily edition - even digitally. It is telling that online 'influencers' have bigger audiences than nearly all the 'news' media. Journalism has truly lost the respect of any audience - and they themselves - not digital tech - are responsible.

Checking the name of the poor Georgia gal murdered last week, the ABC News website giving it-- "Laken Hope Riley"--didn't bother saying the killer was one of China Joe's Border Crossers.
I wouldn't call that shaky journalism, more like "Collusion!" MAGA Vet.

Oh, but it IS your fault and the problem began when you began spewing hatred for Donald Trump and your leftist audience took the bait and cheated to get Joe Biden into office after failing to elect your girl, Hildebeest. The inflation caused by Joe's idiotic and wasteful economic politics took the money that people would spend on your "services" and forced them to use it for food. The people that you considered stupid and deplorable are now supporting Donald Trump by the millions because they understand what you did. Can we make it any more plain than that?

You're not journalists, you're activists. UniParty activists. Deep State activists. We don't like you, we don't trust you, we don't listen to you.

Well, the market for dimokrap hog swallop ain’t as big as it used to be. Kinda like a guy in a dress prancing around isn’t all that entertaining after 20 or 30 seconds. Kinda like “welcome strangers” doesn’t go over as well for 2,000,000 strangers as it does for 3 or 4.

April 10, 1993: Michael Crichton makes his "Mediasaurus: The decline of Conventional Media" speech before the National Press Club. Almost 30 years later his predictions are coming to fruition. With a vengeance. Of course, it didn't help that U.S. journalism morphed into Tass and Pravda levels of propaganda.

Journalism died when universities started turning out liberal brain washed journalism students who believed that they were the arbiters of truth and had an activist mission. The unwashed, ignorant rubes were supposed to sit quietly and absorb their teachings. Instead, they have been exposed as hypocritical fakes and shunned. They have committed a form of collective career suicide and won’t recover.

FTA: "“This is corrosive to democracy in many ways,” Joseph argued in CJR. John Palfrey, president of the extremely liberal MacArthur Foundation, called the elimination of journalism jobs “a threat to our democracy.”
A FREE press is necessary to democracy.
We don't have "reporters"; at best, we have "journalists" - you know, people who write journals, aka "diaries". There is very little difference between their articles and their social media posts, except length.
We don't have reporters, we have critics, analysts, pundits, bloggers, correspondents, announcers, anchors, broadcasters, news casters and my favorite, "talking heads."

one of the few things I ever agreed with dan rather
news should not be a profit center
news reporting has become ideological entertainment competing for advertising dollars

I'm old enough to remember when newspapers had reporters, not "journalists." I also remember when the New York Times had a real editor, named Abe Rosenthal. He once fired a female reporter when it was discovered that, while reporting on a local politician, she was also sleeping with him. The other reporters protested her termination. Rosenthal told them "I don't care if, in her spare time, she screws an elephant - but if she does, she can't cover the circus for the Times!"
If "journalists" want to recover their profession, they'll need a boatload of guys like Abe Rosenthal.

"Don't Blame Us. We're Journalists." Hmmm, and silly me thought you were all a buncha mental cases or monumental liars. Decades have past with these cretins slinging their swill. Unfortunately, millions took all this time to figure it out.

Our local Sunday rag ... only day I get it... ran the AP story on the dangers of women jogging alone, citing the recent death in Georgia (allegedly by a "resident" of that community and the murder of a young lady in Iowa a few years ago.
With no mention of the commonality that both murders were committed by illegal aliens, undocumented immigrants, "newcomers" or what ever is the PC way to name them.

America no longer has journalists, just political activists.
If the facts don't support the agenda, they are ignored.
