The Risk of Playing by the Rules

Last week Republicans lost one of their precious seats in the House of Representatives reducing their slim majority to near invisibility. Interestingly, this did not have to happen. The vacancy giving rise to the special election in New York 3, was intentionally created by the Republicans themselves. A cynic might say with opponents like these, the Democrats can stroll through their victory lap. An influential group of Republican congressmen, including the Republican Chair of the House Ethics Committee, decided the behavior, or misbehavior, of their erstwhile colleague, George Santos, was unworthy of a Republican Congressman.

The George Santos debacle was an unforced error. Yes, he's a compulsive liar and an embarrassment to the GOP. It's up to the voters in his district, and not the Congress to vote him out of office. His situation was not the same as another NYC, Anthony Weiner, for example, because he committed felonies.

worth a mention...Dem. Rep Goldman, (Of Goldman-Sachs) helped out Santos as having never worked at Goldman-Sachs. Also...after Santos won the 3rd, dems redistricted it, adding in a couple of densely populated/majority minority areas in Queens to the "Nassau County district", won back the seat on the basis of those towns Dem heavy vote alone. In an election with a tiny turnout, unaided by the RNC, or any major Rebub personality. While repubs "play by the rules", Dems ignore the rules, and are fully willing to change even every playing field as needed..."Victory at any Cost" People don't remember but, Menendez was the hand picked replacement for Torrecelli, who was bounced from office for the very same things Menendez has now been caught for.

You have to decide whats more important: having a few (presumably) honest people, or having a lot of crooks with the right letter after their name. The communists made their choice and thats why they have nothing but crooks. The system itself rewards corruption.

RATS should have been given the choice. Wanna get rid of Santos, well name a Dem who is going at the same time (in a district that could possibly flip Republican). Otherwise, shaddup. The guy wasn't running for re-election in 2024 anyway. And McCarthy should have stuck around until the election. Gruesome Newsom scheduled the primary for his seat in March with the general election in late May. Notice he wasn't as much in a rush as the NY Dems.

Recently, Democratic Party-cheerleading economist Paul Krugman declared, “Inflation is over. We won.” This is like a robber shooting you and then declaring, “The coma I put you in is over! We won!” The truth is that the wild inflation, high interest rates, bank failures, and other economic harms of the last three years were all entirely avoidable and all entirely caused by President Biden and the Democrats’ arrogant and unwise policies. This is not “Monday morning quarterbacking.” Some of us were saying this well before the fact. My May 7, 2021 column (“Joe Biden, Economy Killer”) accurately forecast the inflation, rising interest rates, and rising government debt service

Joe Biden and his Praetorian Guard in the media are over the moon about the indictment last week of FBI informant Alexander Smirnov, a US-Israeli dual national accused of having lied to the FBI when he claimed Hunter and Joe Biden each were paid a $5 million bribe by the owner of corrupt Ukrainian energy company Burisma. For more than three years, Joe Biden has refused to address the avalanche of evidence about his family’s corrupt influence-peddling while he was VP. He has refused to address evidence that he was involved in son Hunter and brother Jim’s lucrative shakedown of shady characters in the world’s most corrupt countries

For nearly two hundred and fifty years, our country and lawmakers have consistently met innovation and societal changes with new policies to meet the challenges of each generation. During my time serving the Commonwealth of Virginia as Attorney General and then as its 68th governor, I learned firsthand the vital role states play in setting the agenda for federal legislation in Washington. That is why I am pleased to see action being taken both by the Virginia General Assembly and Congress to begin the discussion on the impact social media is having on children and families. There is excellent news for the American industry, economy, and international trade sectors. The discovery of colossal rare earth deposits in Wyoming could essentially restructure the global supply chain of these crucial elements in the near future. A discovery of 2.34 billion metric tons of rare earth elements (REEs) in a mine outside of Sheridan, Wyoming, has generated great excitement across industries stateside. For one, the reserves are estimated to be bigger than China’s current reserves, implying that this single find could end America’s reliance on Chinese exports if exploited judiciously.

The United States has vetoed one United Nations resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, but President Joe Biden is reportedly proposing a separate ceasefire resolution that would also call on Israel to abandon its plan to crush the remnants of Hamas in the city of Rafah. He should proceed no further in this. Israel has come too far and made too much progress in the laudable goal of dismantling Hamas to stop now. Before Hamas massacred innocent Israelis on Oct. 7, there were 24 Hamas regional battalions in Gaza. These have been reduced to six, and they are in Rafah. The city must be taken. Hamas must not

Joe Biden has not only promised to veto any standalone Israeli aid, but he’s reportedly circulating a draft resolution within the United Nations Security Council that would compel the Jewish state to stop its ground offensive in Rafah and, effectively, give Hamas a pass. Beyond that, the U.S. is also reportedly thinking about circumventing Israel and formally recognizing a Palestinian state. In other words, while Ukraine is prodded by the United States to fight for every inch of its land, Israel is prodded to commit suicide. Indeed, anyone who dares to suggest the United States push Ukraine to negotiate a settlement with Russia is framed as a democracy-hating Putin shill.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz caused a stir with an almost casual statement: "My goal is that we finance the expenditure for the Bundeswehr from the general budget once the special fund has expired," he told the Süddeutsche Zeitung daily a few days ago. The "special fund" is the €100 billion ($108 bn) established two years ago, after Russia's full-fledged invasion of Ukraine. The fund is a special loan taken out to strengthen the German military. Ammunition has been procured and expensive weapons systems have been ordered. Current estimates say that money will likely be used up by 2027.

If you didn’t see Tucker Carlson’s interview last week with Mike Benz, you need to take an hour and watch the whole thing. In a mind-bending narrative about the emergence of what Benz calls “military rule” through an online censorship industry in the U.S., he lays out in startling detail just how corrupt and tyrannical the U.S. defense and foreign policy establishment has become. Most importantly, Benz, the executive director of the Foundation For Freedom Online, explains how a constellation of federal agencies and publicly funded institutions, under the pretext of countering “misinformation,” rigged the 2020 election and are right now smothering the First Amendment and rigging the 2024 election

The hand-wringing among Democratic Party leaders seems to have subsided. Some quiet resignation may have set in while a few cockeyed optimists spin fanciful routes to a Biden victory, but the reality is that the Biden candidacy is on the ropes. Biden’s approval ratings are historically low for a sitting president since 1950 seeking election. Each of the prior eleven presidents in that position, including four who lost (Trump being one), began the election year with at least 45% approval in Gallup. Biden’s at the year’s start was only 41% and has been short of 45% for more than two years. He fares no better in preference polls. He trails Trump

Georgia lawmakers are taking aim at Atlanta's squatting crisis with a proposed bill that would make the act a clear criminal offense in the Peach State as neighborhoods around the metro area continue to assess the situation with tied hands. Approximately 1,200 homes have been taken over by squatters, according to the National Rental Home Council trade group, but with local law enforcement bound by tenant rights laws, homeowners have limited options to reclaim their property. HB 1017, the Georgia Squatter Reform Act, aims to make that process easier.

First, California came for plastic straws. It did nothing meaningful for the environment, but it made lawmakers feel good — albeit at the expense of consumers. Now, the state could be coming for “single-use cups” at chain restaurants. It’ll do nothing for the environment, again, but it’ll make lawmakers feel good, again. Guess what it will do to your wallet, Californians? According to The Center Square, a conservative publication, Democrat Sen. Catherine Blakespear, who represents a district in the San Diego suburbs, has introduced Senate Bill 1167, which would require chain restaurants to stop using paper or plastic single-use beverage cups.

It doesn’t work. So, we have to reduce emissions from the food system.” What a dilemma. If we feed people, we will continue to warm the planet. If we continue to warm the planet, billions will die in 100 years from global warming because of the food we are eating now.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom thinks President Joe Biden should absolutely debate Donald Trump in the 2024 general election campaign. Biden has not yet committed to debate Trump this election cycle after the two went head-to-head multiple times in 2020. But Newsom, a top surrogate for Biden, suggested that the president is prepared to go against his predecessor and that suggestions he won't is 'pure projection.' Trump refused to participate in the primary debate this cycle because he claimed he was running as an incumbent and shouldn't have to go up against the B team.
