Germany: Is it better to spend on defense
or on welfare?

Original Article

Chancellor Olaf Scholz caused a stir with an almost casual statement: "My goal is that we finance the expenditure for the Bundeswehr from the general budget once the special fund has expired," he told the Süddeutsche Zeitung daily a few days ago. The "special fund" is the €100 billion ($108 bn) established two years ago, after Russia's full-fledged invasion of Ukraine. The fund is a special loan taken out to strengthen the German military. Ammunition has been procured and expensive weapons systems have been ordered. Current estimates say that money will likely be used up by 2027.

Though this article doesn’t focus on US politics, I thought it might be interesting.

Ahh me.. should we give Mohammed and his 5 wives and 20 children shelter and food and citizenship or should we maybe just maybe think about a future when the US isn't?? Don't think the German elite aren't thinking this as Biden stumbles up yet another AF1 stairway.

You have to have a strong defense. There will always be the 'I will take over the world' guys. The Hitlers, Xi's, Putins, the crazy mullahs, etc.

It is ironic that Chancellor Scholz would suggest defense spending should take a backseat to welfare spending in a nation with a history of launching invasions of their neighboring countries to an extent that has precipitated two world wars resulting in the deaths of millions of victims. History clearly shows that inadequate defenses promote war and war brings the greatest possible harm to the welfare of all peoples. Spain, France, Germany and Russia all have been responsible for victimizing weaker nations throughout history. The cold war's nuclear threat was probably responsible for the longest period of peace in recent European history, although at the cost of liberty for half the continent.

If you know that your nation is secure, you are better able to assure the safety, security, and welfare of your citizens. If your nation feels secure, people will invest and make your nation more successful and financially secure. When that happens, you are better able to deal with the people 's welfare issues and increase social spending.

The money is best left with the poor schlubs that earned it. When government steals a nickel it spends a dollar, often on worthless or overpriced things. The best thing is to hide the nickel.

Welfare spending stagnates upward social mobility. Examples? Europe's socialism after World War II, Great Society's black victims after three generations destroyed black families, Democrat inflation policies which kick the rug out from working-class savings, etc. etc. etc.

It is called "Guns or butter," and it is a standard Econ 101 concept. You gotta pick one, cuz there's only X dollars in the kitty and you can't buy both with the same money. At least it used to be standard Economics, before the United States took on the role as saviour of the free world and simply printed the dollars we needed that didn't exist. We've been swimming in guns AND butter for ourselves and every free country on Earth, enabling all of Europe to let us hold the guns while they slather on the butter, and no bad guys could touch them. Without getting past our Navy carriers. And they got used to it, and only Trump saw the problem and wants to fix it.

Joe Biden and his Praetorian Guard in the media are over the moon about the indictment last week of FBI informant Alexander Smirnov, a US-Israeli dual national accused of having lied to the FBI when he claimed Hunter and Joe Biden each were paid a $5 million bribe by the owner of corrupt Ukrainian energy company Burisma. For more than three years, Joe Biden has refused to address the avalanche of evidence about his family’s corrupt influence-peddling while he was VP. He has refused to address evidence that he was involved in son Hunter and brother Jim’s lucrative shakedown of shady characters in the world’s most corrupt countries

For nearly two hundred and fifty years, our country and lawmakers have consistently met innovation and societal changes with new policies to meet the challenges of each generation. During my time serving the Commonwealth of Virginia as Attorney General and then as its 68th governor, I learned firsthand the vital role states play in setting the agenda for federal legislation in Washington. That is why I am pleased to see action being taken both by the Virginia General Assembly and Congress to begin the discussion on the impact social media is having on children and families. There is excellent news for the American industry, economy, and international trade sectors. The discovery of colossal rare earth deposits in Wyoming could essentially restructure the global supply chain of these crucial elements in the near future. A discovery of 2.34 billion metric tons of rare earth elements (REEs) in a mine outside of Sheridan, Wyoming, has generated great excitement across industries stateside. For one, the reserves are estimated to be bigger than China’s current reserves, implying that this single find could end America’s reliance on Chinese exports if exploited judiciously.

The United States has vetoed one United Nations resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, but President Joe Biden is reportedly proposing a separate ceasefire resolution that would also call on Israel to abandon its plan to crush the remnants of Hamas in the city of Rafah. He should proceed no further in this. Israel has come too far and made too much progress in the laudable goal of dismantling Hamas to stop now. Before Hamas massacred innocent Israelis on Oct. 7, there were 24 Hamas regional battalions in Gaza. These have been reduced to six, and they are in Rafah. The city must be taken. Hamas must not

Joe Biden has not only promised to veto any standalone Israeli aid, but he’s reportedly circulating a draft resolution within the United Nations Security Council that would compel the Jewish state to stop its ground offensive in Rafah and, effectively, give Hamas a pass. Beyond that, the U.S. is also reportedly thinking about circumventing Israel and formally recognizing a Palestinian state. In other words, while Ukraine is prodded by the United States to fight for every inch of its land, Israel is prodded to commit suicide. Indeed, anyone who dares to suggest the United States push Ukraine to negotiate a settlement with Russia is framed as a democracy-hating Putin shill.

If you didn’t see Tucker Carlson’s interview last week with Mike Benz, you need to take an hour and watch the whole thing. In a mind-bending narrative about the emergence of what Benz calls “military rule” through an online censorship industry in the U.S., he lays out in startling detail just how corrupt and tyrannical the U.S. defense and foreign policy establishment has become. Most importantly, Benz, the executive director of the Foundation For Freedom Online, explains how a constellation of federal agencies and publicly funded institutions, under the pretext of countering “misinformation,” rigged the 2020 election and are right now smothering the First Amendment and rigging the 2024 election

The hand-wringing among Democratic Party leaders seems to have subsided. Some quiet resignation may have set in while a few cockeyed optimists spin fanciful routes to a Biden victory, but the reality is that the Biden candidacy is on the ropes. Biden’s approval ratings are historically low for a sitting president since 1950 seeking election. Each of the prior eleven presidents in that position, including four who lost (Trump being one), began the election year with at least 45% approval in Gallup. Biden’s at the year’s start was only 41% and has been short of 45% for more than two years. He fares no better in preference polls. He trails Trump

Georgia lawmakers are taking aim at Atlanta's squatting crisis with a proposed bill that would make the act a clear criminal offense in the Peach State as neighborhoods around the metro area continue to assess the situation with tied hands. Approximately 1,200 homes have been taken over by squatters, according to the National Rental Home Council trade group, but with local law enforcement bound by tenant rights laws, homeowners have limited options to reclaim their property. HB 1017, the Georgia Squatter Reform Act, aims to make that process easier.

The Biden administration is reportedly taking its goal of a temporary cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war to the U.N. Security Council as early as Tuesday. The administration is said to have proposed a draft U.N. Security Council resolution which in part would call for a temporary cease-fire and call on Israel not to go into Rafah in the Gaza Strip. According to Reuters, the U.S. text states in part that it "determines that under current circumstances a major ground offensive into Rafah would result in further harm to civilians and their further displacement including potentially into neighboring countries."

President Joe Biden is considering an immigration crackdown that closes the border if more than 8,500 try to cross in one day, a law repeatedly used by former President Donald Trump. The law would, if the migrant crisis reached those numbers per day, unilaterally enact a sweeping ban at the southern border, according to three people familiar with the deliberations. The administration, stymied by lawmakers who rejected a negotiated border bill earlier this month, has been exploring options that Biden could deploy on his own without congressional approval.

I know what you're thinking. The headline has to be some sort of clickbait, right? Actually, no. The Biden administration is working on a final solution for Israel. It's been a hell of a week for the Joe Biden foreign policy shop at Foggy Bottom, and that has now extended to Turtle Bay. The two-state solution that Joe Biden wants to impose on the two parties currently at war in the Middle East, a solution neither side will ever accept in the near future, is a myth that's also threatening to collapse the Democratic Party from within. If Joe Biden supports Israel, he loses the Arab-American voting bloc in Michigan,

Although I was born into a typical Democrat New York City family, I registered as a Republican as soon as I was old enough to vote. Why? Just to be different but at heart, I was as enamored of John F. Kennedy as the nuns at my high school. My first vote was for Democrat Hubert Humphrey, and I worked for Robert F.
