An attorney for one of former president Donald Trump’s co-defendants highlighted on Monday an alleged conflict in statements special prosecutor Nathan Wade submitted under oath.
Ashleigh Merchant, who represents Michael Roman, said Wade submitted an affidavit in his divorce case in May 2023 claiming he did not have relations with anyone besides his spouse during his marriage. Yet in a Feb. 1 affidavit attached to the state’s response to Roman’s motion to disqualify Fani Willis, Wade admitted that they have been romantically involved since 2022.
“We’ve got two declarations in two different courts, both sworn, both filed with the court, that say something completely different,”

A Georgia state judge on Monday confirmed that he will hold an evidentiary hearing on Thursday over allegations that embattled District Attorney Fani Willis engaged in an "improper" affair. (snip)
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee said in a hearing Monday considering those motions, "in studying the law that's been filed up to this point, I think it's clear that disqualification can occur if evidence is produced demonstrating an actual conflict or the appearance of one." (snip) McAfee said the issues "at point" here are "whether a relationship existed, whether that relationship was romantic or non-romantic in nature, when it formed and whether it continues."

Some called it the “Rave at the Nave,” but others use terms like “sacrilege” to describe two ’90s-themed silent discos held at one of the United Kingdom’s oldest cathedrals. (snip) Canterbury Cathedral, where St Thomas Becket was martyred just next to the nave, is hosting a “90s Silent Disco” over two nights Feb. 8-9. 3,000 people expected to take part. Faithful are protesting against the event with prayer vigils outside (snip) Appeals to the history and sanctity of the cathedral did not sway church leadership, who insisted that the revelers be allowed to discover Canterbury “on their own terms.”

Former Dutch Prime Minister Dries van Agt and his wife Eugene have died by state-sponsored suicide.
The couple died on Monday "hand-in-hand" in their hometown of Nijmegen, Netherlands. They were both 93 years old when they decided to die by euthanasia. Both of them were reportedly in failing health.
While duo euthanasia remains relatively rare in the Netherlands, it is rising. According to the New York Post, 29 couples opted for lethal injection in 2022. This compared to 16 couples who died by euthanasia in 2021 and 13 in 2020.

The legal team for a co-defendant in the Georgia election interference case against former President Donald Trump alleges in court papers that Fulton County D.A. Fani Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade lied about when their "personal relationship" started.
“Mr. Roman believes the special prosecutor’s statement in his affidavit that the relationship did not start until 2022 is patently false,” Trump co-defendant Michael Roman’s lawyers wrote in a Friday filing, according to NBC News. (snip) “Bradley has non-privileged, personal knowledge that the romantic relationship between Wade and Willis began prior to Willis being sworn as the district attorney for Fulton County, Georgia in January 2021,” the filing reads.

A New Hampshire Democrat cradled her week-old daughter while defending a proposed state constitutional amendment to enshrine abortion rights up to 24 weeks and allow the procedure beyond that when deemed medically necessary.
"I stand here today as one of the millions of people who has had an abortion. When I was a teenager, I accessed abortion care that has allowed me to go to college, to graduate school, to receive an M.Ed., to teach, and to be a state representative," the amendment's sponsor, Rep. Amanda Toll, D-Keene, said during a floor debate last week.

A review of 60 studies of the mental health of transgender-identifying youth found that “there is no long-term evidence that current ‘gender affirming’ medication and surgical protocols benefit their mental well-being,” according to a group representing pediatricians.
The American College of Pediatricians issued a position statement on Wednesday opposing the gender transitioning of youth based on the literature review. It comes just after a watchdog group filed a scientific integrity complaint against Department of Health and Human Services official Rachel Levine for claiming that “there is no argument among medical professionals regarding “the value and the importance of gender-affirming care.”

On Sunday, Joe Biden claimed that in 2021, he had a conversation with François Mitterrand, who was president of France from 1981 to 1995 and died in 1996. (snip) On Wednesday, Biden told the same story again, this time apparently thinking that he had spoken with German Chancellor Helmut Kohl—who died in 2017.
And he made the same mistake twice, at two different events. (snip)

Disney fans battered by inflation are hitting the “Cancel” button in droves.
The Disney+ streaming service lost 1.3 million subscribers worldwide during the last three months of 2023 as a steep price hike took a toll on fans’ wallets. In the U.S. and Canada alone, the streamer bid goodbye to 400,000 customers — Disney+’s largest-ever reported domestic decline.
The drop represents a major hit for Disney, which has been pouring billions of dollars into its streaming services without yet reaching profitability.
