A 54-year-old branch of Denny's has closed its doors in Oakland amid threats to 'the safety and wellbeing' of staff and customers, as the Bay Area city struggles to contain soaring crime.
With robbery up by 37 percent year-on-year, burglary up 24 percent and motor vehicle theft rising 45 percent to reach an all-time record, those who live and work in the city do not feel safe. Violent crimes have also spiked by 21 percent in 12 months.
And on Tuesday, Clorox - which has its global headquarters in Oakland - begun providing security escorts for people walking to and from the train station.

Be ready for the massive WHINING about the racial prejudiced lack of services for the people in these areas.
Areas like this are have been angry that their "neighbors" were being arrested for criminal acts and disenfranchise and defund the police. THIS is the result, a lawless area that no one wants to do business in; a services desert.
I muse that these areas are becoming like the movie "Escape from L.A." where cities are walled off and all the "undesirables" are held captive there. If you want to support people living like thugs, you deserve to live among them.

Nancy? Gavin? Adam? The CA sheeple are not happy. There seems to be unrest in liberal land. What is the problem? Didn't the latest "Orange Man Bad" speech have the desired effect?

Must some kind of great service for a Denny's to survive that long in what amounts to a war zone like that.
Oh well ...I'm sure our government will step in to provide greasy food for the 'hood...

I ate in that very same Denny's decades ago when I was in college. It was crazy dangerous then. I can't imagine it getting worse. There were already shootings, attacks, fights, robberies and the rest several times a month.

Next we’ll hear that the problem is that Oakland isn’t getting enough money from the feds and that it needs to get more from the gravy train. Meanwhile, Oaklanders should find out how much of the loot goes to Newsom’s, Schiff’s, Pelosi’s etc. war chests.

So, will the government try to address restaurant deserts?
Actually, if you're driving thru the area and there's no place to stop to eat, you'll keep going until there IS a food place. It's like a public service.

FTA:Police say they are powerless to pursue the criminals because smash-and-grab thefts are not considered 'violent crime'
That is the underlying problem. The thugs rule the streets with the blessing of lawmakers.

Okay, I’m just spitballin’ here. Does anyone out there think it might have something to do with Oakland’s overwhelmingly black population?
Nah. Must be White Supremacy! Yeah! That’s it. That’s the ticket. White Supremacy. I knew it. Damn them blue-eyed, white debbils.

The purpose of any business is to make profit. Everything else is less than secondary. When taxes, regulations, mandates and crime (all the same thing) cut into that too far, the business must close. If that impacts the local community, maybe they should look at addressing those causes.

There's a guy who does internet stories on best/worst places to live in a lot of states. Just about all the large, leftist-run cities have areas that are decrepit war zones. Too bad.

We are witnessing the emergence of the California wasteland. One closed business and one abandoned house at a time. The smart hard working productive people are leaving. They should write 'Who is Jon Galt' on their empty unsellable homes.

Let me clue you in. All of this crime may have a few white people involved, but the majority of the crimes are committed by the minority of the people. yes the usual suspects who complain that too many black folks are in todays prisons.
The reason is that they deserve to be there, They are the ones breaking the law.

And the inner-city denizens in these hellholes continue to whine and call it 'racist' to close stores that are being robbed blind and losing money. This so typical of this people-group, do stupid and violent things while expecting their neighborhoods will somehow turn into a beautiful gated community where the horrible white people are not allowed. Meanwhile, nearly every member of this people-group who does rise above the poverty experienced by most of his/her peers has a mate or spouse with a white face. Funny that.

I've loved Denny's ever since I was a kid. We used to go eat there sometimes after church in WVA. When I joined the Navy and got stationed at Pearl Harbor after "A" school I found out where the restaurant was located. Thankfully it wasn't that far from base. I did the same thing when I got transferred to Oakland and found this location. I enjoyed eating there but the neighborhood wasn't the best as far as safety was concerned. That was in the early to mid 90s and it doesn't surprise me that area has gotten worse. Oakland along with our other major cities that are under democrat control will continue to see businesses leave. Which is bad for the residence that live there.
