With robbery up by 37 percent year-on-year, burglary up 24 percent and motor vehicle theft rising 45 percent to reach an all-time record, those who live and work in the city do not feel safe. Violent crimes have also spiked by 21 percent in 12 months. And on Tuesday, Clorox - which has its global headquarters in Oakland - begun providing security escorts for people walking to and from the train station.
