Final Thoughts on DeSantis: The One-Way

The most common refrain from frustrated Ron DeSantis supporters has been, ‘why didn’t he just wait until 2028’? With the exception of a small group of political followers in the State of Florida, few people really understood what the DeSantis 2024 operation was all about. Ron DeSantis ’24 began long before people were paying attention. It started when the top echelon of the GOPe UniParty saw candidate Donald Trump win the November 2016 election.

It would be naive to think that big undertakings are not well planned in advance, with players who know how each piece moves and how to move it. The appearance of spontaneity is the process goal. So, I hope it's not true about desantis- I hope he has more faithfulness to our Constitution than to the people who promise him a leg up. There is certainly a large spectrum between grifters like bidet and the clittons, on the one hand, and MAGA/Trump, on the other. Desantis could be somewhere between those and still be OK. That said, I felt strongly that his running for president thereby taking advantage of the slow coup lawfare of the Dims was a very bad sign.

I’ll admit I was taken in at first by DeSantis, but gradually I became disillusioned. Little things turned into bigger things until I just downright didn’t trust him. Like #1 said, the article gives me a lot to think about. Thanks Sundance!

When DeSantis decided to run in 2024, he committed political suicide (at least outside of Florida). He is young. All he had to do was be Trump's biggest cheerleader in 2024, and continue to be a solid conservative governor, and he would have been the odds-on Republican presidential candidate in 2028 -- with the full support and financial backing of Trump's huge base of voters and Trump himself. But, for whatever reason -- though I'm pretty sure it was his ego listening to the wrong people -- he decided to challenge Trump in 2024. And it played out exactly as anyone with more than 6 working brain cells knew it would (only, in my humble opinion, he flamed out even earlier than I expected). The key here is that the Republican Party is a shell of what it once was. Tens of millions of Trump supporters no longer consider themselves to be Republicans after watching the Republican Party abandon him and stab him in the back in 2020. We are now conservatives. Period!!! We will no longer vote for a RINO Republi-Can't candidate just because he or she has an "R" after their name. Hopefully DeSantis woke up early enough to salvage his political career. But it's going to take a lot of work to win back the Trump supporters. He had better put on the Trump cheerleader costume and be on the stump for Trump constantly between now and November...

I know some here don’t care for Sundance, and I’ll admit, he has a certain schtick that is occasionally off-putting. However, this analysis, coupled with dates and facts, sheds new light. PLUS, all of this explains the demise of the Tea Party. I never could figure that out, until I did. My only difference with Sundance is his opinion of Jeff Sessions. But that’s for another thread.

He ran in 2024 because he would win if Trump dropped out under legal pressure. Not very complicated. May still be true.

AP reported that Zelensky is big mad at Donald Trump. In case you have forgotten, Zelensky turned Trump’s congratulatory call for being elected president of Ukraine into an article of impeachment. In retaliation, Trump said when he returns to power, he’ll end the Ukraine war in 24 hours. The Ukrainian crook felt that was a low blow. Zelensky does not want the war to end. Why should he? The war has been a financial windfall as Western countries have poured hundreds of billions of dollars into his pi**ant nation

In the past five years, specifically in the ‘western’ geopolitical world, there have been two overarching narratives pushed so hard it made us pause, elevate and question the intensity of the push. These are narratives outside the USA domestic front, and specifically attributable to the entire ‘western’ alliance of nations. The first was the COVID-19 vaccine demand. No other modern unity governmental push in modern history was focused to intensely, to the exclusion of all other factors, as the demand that citizens within various western nations take the vaccine.(snip)The second overall narrative; again, this is almost exclusively a ‘western’ government narrative, surrounds Ukraine.

Of Haley voters in the Granite State, CNN said, “about 7 in 10 said they were registered as undeclared prior to Tuesday.” CNN relied on an exit poll to make its shocking statement. New Hampshire’s loose requirements allow for voters to cross over, while future Republican caucuses and primaries will consist overwhelmingly of registered Republicans. Trump crushed Haley in the New Hampshire primary by double digits with results still outstanding. The Associated Press called the New Hampshire results within three minutes.

Donald Trump has added former White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany to the list of Republicans he has branded a 'RINO' after she advised him to 'look under the hood' and adopt a 'general election tone'. McEnany offered the unvarnished, and apparently unwelcome, advice during live commentary on Fox News on a night when Trump spent much of his New Hampshire victory speech torching rival Nikki Haley, calling her an 'imposter' and grumbling, 'I don't get too angry, I get even.' 'I don't need any advice from RINO Kayleigh McEnany on Fox,' Trump vented online shortly before midnight on Tuesday, using an acronym for 'Republican In Name Only'.
