On the first Monday of each October, the U.S. Supreme Court begins hearing cases for its new term. There’s no doubt that the decisions reached there reverberate throughout the country. But as Chief Judge Jeffrey Sutton, who serves on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals reminded everyone in his book, 51 Imperfect Solutions, state constitutions provide many rights and remedies not available under the U.S. Constitution, and that state courts are charged with interpreting and enforcing those rights. Then there's Maryland, where the governor appoints a nominating committee that screens candidates and sends their choices to the governor.

When Republicans took over both houses of the WV legislature in 2014, one of the first things they did was make all judicial elections non-partisan. From the lowest magistrate to the Supreme Court. A huge, stupid mistake. So now, not only can voters not tell the ideology of candidates, the elections occur during the primary when the fewest amount of voters vote.

What constitutes or defines a conservative sure has changed a lot between Ronald Regan and Donald Trump. Given the only historic place for politically conservative Americans to go has been the Republican Party, our newer self-proclaimed "conservatives," and their self-aggrandizing, anarchist pundits, can't destroy Republicans and their Party fast enough. Somehow, here on L.com, Trump virtue signaling seems to require taking shots at any Republican not named Trump, which begs the question of how RINO is defined, especially since many Trump supporters ignored his consistent words of support for McCarthy and couldn't rest until he was booted from his speaker position, seemingly for voting like President Trump, vis-a-vis spending legislation. Trump never compromised on any principle to keep our government open, until he did. In his book, 11 Principles of a Reagan Conservative , biographer and researcher, Paul Kengor, analyzes Ronald Reagan's speeches and actions to paint a condensed but accurate picture of his beliefs. Kengor identifies these principles that lie at the crux of Reagan's conservatism; Freedom, Faith, Family, Sanctity and Dignity of Human Life, American Exceptionalism, The Founders' Wisdom and Vision, Lower Taxes, Limited Government, Peace Through Strength, Anti-Communism, and Belief in the Individual. I suppose that could be improved upon but I'm good with Kengor's compilation and synthesis.

The Two Big Myths about the Middle East 5 replies

Propagation of myths has consequences. Let us examine a couple. Myth 1. The State of Palestine This so-called state is like Brigadoon, with two exceptions: a. It never appeared. b. It refuses to go away. Neither a country nor a state of Palestine has ever existed. The Kingdom of Judah is named after Judah, the fourth son of Jacob and Leah. (Snip) The Kingdom of Judah lasted for about 350 years, until it was conquered by the Babylonians. However, the Jewish people eventually returned to their homeland, and they rebuilt their community in Judea. We are dealing here with the land of the Jews.

This is the last article of a 10-part series that J. Christian Adams and I started over six months ago to expose the radical curricula of the top 10 law schools as rated by U.S. News & World Report last year. UMich is just as bad as the other schools, if not worse. If you want to spend almost $100,000 a year to turn your son or daughter into a radical, America-hating extremist whose goal is to bring down our republic, particularly our supposedly white supremacist legal system, then Ann Arbor is the place to go. None of this is surprising given the recent news about student organizations

When the federal government is looking for qualified persons to vet asylum seekers, where would you look? For the Biden administration, it seems they thought a good place was in the bowels of a terrorist organization that Trump kicked out. Somehow, they believe that a former spokesperson from the PLO is well qualified. Nothing better than plucking a person from an organization that wants to snuff out America and Israel to decide who should be allowed to come to the U.S. What could go wrong? Isn’t it great that they picked a woman who said “f--- Israel and any Jew who supports Israel ...

Among the litter of guns, korans, and maps discarded by the Hamas terrorists whose bodies lie alongside bullet-riddled vehicles and dusty roads are green Gaza IDs with work permits. Normally residents of the Hamas territory can’t enter Israel, but work permits allowed over 20,000 Gazans to enter Israel. When some returned, it was as Hamas rapists and killers. The Hamas invasion succeeded so well because the terrorists had an intimate knowledge of the communities they were targeting because they had worked there or had intelligence from those who had worked there. The attackers had detailed maps and building layouts. One woman whose husband and son were murdered said

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders will announce on Tuesday that a Chinese state-owned corporation must sell more than 100 acres of agricultural land in northeast Arkansas, the consequence of a law signed by Sanders earlier this year barring ownership of agricultural land by prohibited foreign parties, Townhall has learned. The 160 acres of land owned by Syngenta — an agrichemical company headquartered in Switzerland and owned by Chinese Communist Party-controlled ChemChina — is the first to be hit with the consequences of Act 636 which went into effect earlier this year after being signed by Governor Sanders.

It doesn’t take long, does it? It doesn’t take long for the ‘story’ to concentrate first and foremost on the ‘suffering’ of the Palestinians, on the worries about the electricity supply in Gaza, or for voices to be raised condemning ‘Israeli actions’. I entered the phrase ‘Israeli victims of Hamas attack’ on a search engine. The search engine replied with these first words in its summary: “Palestinian civilians across Gaza are struggling for survival in the face of an unprecedented Israeli operation against the territory…” (Snip)Western powers including the US are already scolding Israel about how they should respond to the worst one-day terrorist massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.

Another precedent-setting event related to the criminal prosecution of a former president is scheduled for Monday morning in the federal courtroom of Judge Tanya S. Chutkan in Washington. Special Counsel Jack Smith is asking Chutkan—an Obama appointee with a record of biased and often inaccurate statements about Donald Trump and the events of January 6 in general—to silence the leading GOP presidential contender on a key campaign issue through the heart of the 2024 primary season. Smith’s prosecutors and Trump’s defense attorneys will square off during what is expected to be a fiery hearing to debate the special counsel’s proposed gag order ostensibly needed to prevent Trump

If any indictment ever demanded dismissal, this one does. The case against Marine Corps veteran Daniel Penny, facing charges of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide in New York City, came under new light in a defense motion brief reported by Fox News on Tuesday. The incident took place aboard a subway car in Manhattan, a closed environment where riders were at the mercy of a man openly menacing women and children. And as grand jury testimony cited in the brief makes clear — testimony that paints a picture of the atmosphere on the F train that day — those riders were terrified.

“For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not keep still.”—Isaiah 62:1 On Saturday, Israel suffered the worst attack on its civilian population in 50 years. Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists in Gaza launched thousands of rockets at Israeli population centers and stormed through the security barrier into Israel where they massacred hundreds of Jewish men, women, and children. An untold number were also taken captive and thousands are seriously injured. Fifty years ago, Israel was also caught by surprise when Arab armies invaded on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year. This time, the Palestinian terrorists chose to attack on Simchat Torah,

Hamas broke through a fortified border, had unchallenged freedom of movement inside Israel for a shockingly long time, and attacked….a dance music festival and some kibbutzim. Not airfields, not fuel depots, not power stations, not army motor pools to deny mobility to the enemy. They went after soft targets first, and focused especially on women and children. Eyewitness reports and footage of female hostages are telling us that Hamas engaged in sustained sexual violence, and took care to make it known. (Snip) The sexually traumatized bodies of women represent an extremely deliberate and calculated adoption, explicitly planned for months or years, of the familiar tools of ethnic cleansing.

That is extreme ignorance (not to mention dangerous) when a senator is willing to impeach a president just because he doesn’t like him, all without knowing the facts.

WASHINGTON — Republicans on Tuesday picked Rep. Tom Emmer as their nominee for House speaker. The nominee now goes to the full House for a vote. It’s three weeks since Republicans ousted Kevin McCarthy. The House speaker will need to accomplish the seemingly impossible job of uniting the GOP majority. Emmer of Minnesota jumped ahead as the top vote-getter on early round ballots and was battling Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana on a fifth ballot. Others are dropping out including Florida newcomer Byron Donalds, who’s aligned with Donald Trump, and Kevin Hern of Oklahoma. The nominee will also need to win a majority in a House floor vote.

Blinken did not urge his government peers to enforce the immigration laws that protect Americans from employers who hire illegal immigrants that undercut Americans’ bargaining power in the labor market. He also did not mention the many polls showing the growing public opposition to Biden’s mass illegal migration.

Obama voices his support for Israel, the safety of its people, and its right to exist, which is anathema to the legions of far-left, pro-Hamas supporters we’ve seen come out of the bushes in the past two weeks.
