Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) grimly assessed House Majority Leader Steve Scalise’s (R-LA) prospects of becoming Speaker of the House.
McCarthy said it was a “big hill” to become House Speaker for Scalise, who secured the Republican nomination for Speaker. Although the Louisiana Republican received more votes than House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), he did not have enough votes to become Speaker. (X) “He told a lot of people he was going to be at 150. He wasn’t there,” McCarthy said. He continued by saying that “time is of the essence.”

Scalise is a brave man.
But he supports blank checks for Zelensky.
He supported Liz Chaney right up until she lost by 30% to a non-GOPe globalist /republican.
Seems kind of uniparty, like McCarthy.

I have nothing against Scalise, but he's battling cancer & we need a Speaker at 100%.

Hardly "twisting the knife", McCarthy simply states the reality of Scalise's position, which does not look strong enough in his own party. He could lose speake4ership. Important article (don't get hung up on clickbait headline)...

What I'm seeing in the Republican party is a very broad-based and diverse set of ideals.
Unfortunately, they are battling things that have been entrenched for years, particularly the lack of general order for separate appropriations bills to be passed instead of the CR's (Continuing Resolution) that have been on-going since 2007 fiscal year:
In the United States, a continuing resolution (often abbreviated to CR) is a type of appropriations legislation. An appropriations bill is a bill that appropriates (gives to, sets aside for) money to specific federal government departments, agencies, and programs. The money provides funding for operations, personnel, equipment, and activities.[1] Regular appropriations bills are passed annually, with the funding they provide covering one fiscal year. The fiscal year is the accounting period of the federal government, which runs from October 1 to September 30 of the following year.[2]
When Congress and the president fail to agree on and pass one or more of the regular appropriations bills, a continuing resolution can be passed instead. A continuing resolution continues the pre-existing appropriations at the same levels as the previous fiscal year (or with minor modifications) for a set amount of time.[1] Continuing resolutions typically provide funding at a rate or formula based on the previous year's funding.[3]
The funding extends until a specific date or regular appropriations bills are passed, whichever comes first. There can be some changes to some of the accounts in a continuing resolution. The continuing resolution takes the form of a joint resolution, and may provide bridging funding for existing federal programs at current, reduced, or expanded levels.[4]
Therefore, there has not been any "power of the purse" to stop any funding since 2007.
Thus, the GOP House members need to realize the situation, get a Speaker in place, and work on expanding their House Majority instead of acting like they need to get everything done now because they don't expect to have the Majority after 2024 election.

“Twists knife”? Give it a rest. The comment was just a comment; an observation, nothing more. As for the title, it’s just clickbait, and it smells like someone trying to create more drama (as if there we needed more!).

#3, that is my problem with Gateway Pundit. It uses misleading clickbait headlines and harms its credibility.
We need credible conservative news. gWP needs to change its way

This all goes back to when the republicans just KNEW they were going to take over the House and they met to organize what would happen when that would come to pass. Different ways of doing business were agreed and voted upon not knowing at that time who was going to Speaker. Ultimately, the returns at the polls for a mandate did not happen.
The reason McCarthy had to go through so many (oer a dozen) votes to attain the Speakership is that he DID NOT want to do what was agreed to. As time went on, he showed himself willing to be compromised and DID NOT follow through on the agreement to stop using CRs and Omnibus bills to throw in all sorts of PORK projects that increase our debt and not to agree to further increases in the "devb ceiling"-- THIS is why he was removed. Showboat Gaetz led the charge and the demonrat socialist Marxists joined in.
They want to have a COALITION government that shares power and chairmanships. MANY MANY 'republicans' did not want to go along with this ahd McCarthy was removed. The BASE does not want to see their savings and retirement money get eaten up by Bidenflation and seemingly UNRESTRAINED spending.
Scalise is a good man, but still tied to the "old way" that is what those agreements were to do away with. Jim Jordan is most likely too conservative with the remaining republicans, and welshing on agreements can no longer be tolerated if the debt is going to be brought under some control--
This is it!!! If something isn't done, theClovard-Piven strategy that has been in place since NoBama took power to OVERLOAD things resulting in the break down of the financial and societal systems will succeed. We simply do not have adequate housing, medical care, education and financing to handle the EVER INCREASING invasion of people streaming over the border. At some point coming very soon, this cannot stand before we are over run and bankrupt.

Scalise, Louisianas mistake by the lake, is not healthy. He'll never be 100% after the ball field shooting and that's what a speaker needs to be. Jordan has the problem of being a Gowdy 2.0, a lot of talk and no action. We don't need another boner at the helm, we need a real man (or woman) with the 'nads of a Pelosi! I don't think the Pubbies even have one on deck.

Okay, we've all had our fun. Gaetz and McCarthy never saw eye-to-eye. Yeah, Gaetz is somewhat of a prancing pony, but hey, he isn't the first Congresscritter to do that. McCarthy promised to get individual authorization bills done and he didn't. They had nine months to do it and didn't.
Okay, so McCarthy is gone. Scalise won the vote among the caucus. What should have happened was that someone (perhaps Jim Jordan) should have required or moved that, as was the usual custom, that EVERY member of the Republican caucus would go on the floor, elect Steve Scalise as Speaker and move forward. In fact, they should have been spending much of the last week actually preparing those appropriation bills.
Especially with the events of this weekend, we do not need another 15-round-vote for Speaker.
Again, the words of my high school history teacher from 50 years ago still rings clear. Never underestimate the ability of the national Republican party to screw up a sure thing. If Rush Limbaugh were still alive, he'd add it to his 35 undeniable truths of life. RIP, Mr. Shriver. and RIP, Rush!

"the people", that quadrant of the society that has no say whatsoever in the operations of the federal government, have made it clear that they want Donald J. Trump as Speaker
I thought the repubs in DC got that message, evidently not but if they did, as usual, they're ignoring "the people" again
how can that kind of condescension on their part be tolerated anymore by "the people"

I wonder if Scalise - realizing he would not have the votes - would cite his cancer treatments as a reason for dropping out of the running? As for Jordan, he is supportihg Scalise, but 20 Republicans are holding out...

OKAY, bring on the slings and arrows!! Ron DeSantis is the perfect candidate for Speaker!!! (From his latest book, read his description of his experience with the ' inner workings' in the House; I found it fascinating!) Besides, he has lots of time and energy to spare right about now.....

#9, it’s not just about the cost of the border fiasco, as bad as that is, it’s about national security. Sooner or later we’re going to have a terrorist attack as a result of the open border— it’s not just moochers and criminals coming in. We’ll be lucky if it isn’t worse than 911. The only good thing that might come out of such an attack would be if it buried the lefties for a few generations.

I support Jim Jordan and always have. But I don’t have a vote. Whatever the Republicans are doing they need to do it quickly and we need to move on. Enough already.
