After an hourslong standoff, a 29-year-old man suspected of gunning down a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested. Kevin Cataneo Salazar is accused of ambushing and killing Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer, 30, as the deputy was in his patrol car at an intersection Saturday, Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna said. Salazar surrendered after deputies deployed chemical agents at his home Monday. The sheriff has described the deputy’s killer as a “coward” who took Clinkunbroomer’s life “while he’s sitting at a red light, waiting to serve our community.”

I don't care how crazy this freak is ,he should get the death penalty and it should be carried out immediately, but of course this is kalifornia, and there are already 700 on death row who will never be punished. It is crazy to say that someone is too crazy to be executed. IMO they should be first in line.

There really are people who just need to be put to death as soon as it is established that they are guilty. This guy sounds like an excellent example.

I agree. “insanity” or mental illness should not be an excuse. Not that there is no such thing. But psychiatry is not an “exact science”, and mental illness is easily imitated by perfectly “sane” people. If there is such a thing. We are all a little crazy, truth be known. Even if you are actually “insane” or have lost touch with reality, whatever that is, if you do the deed, you should be punished for it.

CHICAGO — Democratic strongholds are struggling to keep helping the surge of migrants in their cities and states — and it’s sparking anxiety in the party about potential fallout heading into the 2024 election cycle. New York Mayor Eric Adams’ tussle with the White House over an influx of migrants from red states has famously soured his relationship with President Joe Biden. But he’s far from the only blue state official pushing back, as public pressure and budget concerns rise in Illinois, Massachusetts and beyond. “You’re hearing sentiments that are not dissimilar from what you would hear at [Donald] Trump rallies

Three Dallas police officers are liable for the death of Tony Timpa, a white man who died after officers pinned him to the ground for more than 14 minutes in 2016, a federal jury in Texas decided on Wednesday, ending a civil trial that had faced many delays. The jury of five men and three women found that officers Dustin Dillard, Raymond Dominguez, and Danny Vasquez were responsible for Timpa’s death, and they awarded $1 million to his 15-year-old son, according to Texas news outlets. The jury found that two of the officers, Dillard and Vasquez, had qualified immunity, shielding them from civil liability on the grounds

Less than a week after being indicted, Senator Bob Menendez (D., N.J.) pleaded not guilty Wednesday to federal corruption charges related to his allegedly taking bribes in an influence-peddling scheme that involved Egypt. Despite Democratic calls for his resignation, Menendez has denied any wrongdoing on his part. He allegedly pocketed over $100,000 worth of gold bars and nearly $500,000 in cash, among other luxurious gifts. His not-guilty plea comes as many Democratic politicians call for his resignation. His wife, Nadine, also pleaded not guilty before a federal judge in Manhattan.

San Francisco leaders are preparing to ramp up efforts to clean up and clear out homeless camps in the city after the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals clarified that people who decline shelter should not be classified as “involuntarily homeless.” The clarification could also be critical for other western cities, which have struggled with the proliferation of homeless encampments on sidewalks and in public parks in the wake of two Ninth Circuit rulings — Martin v. City of Boise and Johnson v. City of Grants Pass — that limited the enforcement of camping bans on people who have nowhere to go. NEW YORK — A judge ruled Tuesday that Donald Trump committed fraud for years while building the real estate empire that catapulted him to fame and the White House. Judge Arthur Engoron, ruling in a civil lawsuit brought by New York’s attorney general, found that the former president and his company deceived banks, insurers and others by massively overvaluing his assets and exaggerating his net worth on paperwork used in making deals and securing financing. Engoron ordered that some of Trump’s business licenses be rescinded as punishment, making it difficult or impossible for them to do business in New York, and said he would continue to have an independent monitor

There are three realities that Republican voters can no longer avoid. The first, Joe Biden will not be the Democrat nominee in 2024. Third, Trump’s age, unforeseen events, and the egregious lawfare he is facing could eventuate in Trump having to drop out of the race. Ron DeSantis is the only viable proven conservative candidate to replace him and yet Trump and many Republican voters are foolishly determined to permanently destroy DeSantis and render him unelectable.
