Paul Reubens, the comedian who played the character Pee-Wee Herman, has died at 70 following a battle with cancer.

I'm sorry for his family and friends, but I always thought he was pervy. The first time I ever saw Pee Wee on TV, I was mortified that this adult was acting so childish and trying to appeal to kids.

Truly, a one-of-a-kind. The "Tequila" dance on top of the bar in his first movie - brilliant. Read an interesting take about the movie theater incident, that getting caught was by design in order to smash the character (Tina Louise and Ginger, Henry Winkler and Fonzie, etc). And when everyone said his career was dead he continued on, appearing in dozens of shows, from Murphy Brown to The Blacklist. RIP, Paul. Gonna miss ya.

I loved Pee Wee Herman. I thought he was funny and Paul Reubens played him as a perfect blend of man and child. Pee Wee's Big Adventure was the directing debut of Tim Burton.

He may spend some time in purgatory but I sure hope he gets admitted to heaven.

When Jerry Garcia died, they said, there's always Phish.
When Pee Wee died, there's always Blippi.
Pee Wee wasn't a good role model but he made a couple funny movies.

RIP Paul Reubens. Pee Wee was guilty pleasure I proudly confess.
He was Phil Spector with a heart and a sense of humor.
One of movie history's great lines -- "I meant to do that".

Hmmm, Wasn't Pee-Wee Herman married to Barbie at one point? Oh, Well!

The time he ssshhed the Hells Angles and said he was trying to use the phone... indelibly etched into my brain.

Then there was the time the pet store was on fire and he came running outside, screaming, carrying handsful of snakes. I liked him and will miss him.

He went out like Casey Jones. With his throttle in his hand.

Pee Wee entertained me and my young daughter with his wonderful Saturday morning program "Pee Wee's Playhouse." It had so many great little vignettes, and it was so imaginative with all sorts of crazy characters. Pee Wee's Big Adventure is still one of our family's favorite movies. He truly knew how to think like a child and take us along on that sort of innocent fun. Rest well, Paul.

I never cared for him or his show. Just too creepy for me. Fun to imitate at work in the 80s though.

I was never a big fan but when he got caught masturbating in a theater, he came back with one of the best lines in history. After that embarrassing event, jokes about Peewee were all over the place. He made his first appearance on a show I have forgotten but his first line was "Heard any good jokes lately?". One of the jokes: "The Democrats are thinking about nominating Peewee Herman for President. They like the way he handles himself."

That HBO special ranks as one of the funniest things I've ever seen. I would like to see it again. Would I? Wood eye?

Re: #14 - Yessir, his character in Cheech and Chong's Next Movie was very funny. His line to the reluctant police dispatcher, "I think they're Iranians", (the year was 1980) followed by LA raining Po-lice, only for them to throw Pee Wee in the paddy wagon was priceless.
