Attorney Lin Wood, known for filing challenges seeking to overturn former President Donald Trump's 2020 election loss, is giving up his law license instead of facing possible disbarment.
On Tuesday, Wood asked officials in Georgia, his home state, to "retire" his law license in light of “disciplinary proceedings pending against me." In the request, Wood acknowledged that after relinquishing his license, he is “prohibited from practicing law in this State and in any other state or jurisdiction and that I may not reapply for admission."

Reacting to Texas legislation banning minor transgender treatments, a prominent “trans-affirming care” doctor said she would leave the state.
“Effective July 31, 2023, Ximena Lopez, M.D. will be closing her practice at UT Southwestern Medical Center,” according to a statement posted to Lopez’s professional page on the UT Southwestern Medical Center website.
Dr. Lopez, an associate professor and pediatric endocrinologist, announced her departure in May, when the Texas bill was still in the Senate, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Conservative talk radio host and former Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino said the mystery of who sneaked cocaine into the White House is hardly a whodunnit. (snip) “There’s absolutely ZERO chance anyone other than a family member brought that cocaine inside the White House complex,” Bongino said Wednesday. “No chance that would make it past the mag/security checkpoints. Family bypasses those.” (snip) Bongino, who was an NYPD officer in the late 1990s before beginning a 12-year stint in the Secret Service that ended in 2011, is well-versed in the inner workings of the White House.

The Taliban regime on Monday ordered hundreds of beauty salons across the country to close by the end of July, marking the Islamist regime’s latest offense against the rights and dignity of women in Afghanistan.
The order came via text message from the “Ministry for the Prevention of Vice and Propagation of Virtue,” which said it was acting on a decree from Taliban Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada.
“The deadline for the closing of beauty parlors for women is one month,” the message said, without elaborating on what would happen to salons that dare to remain open when the deadline passes.

A professor who failed a student for using the term “biological woman” in an assignment was officially reprimanded and ordered to complete free speech training.
Adjunct instructor Melanie Nipper, 29, received an official reprimand from the University of Cincinnati weeks after she gave her student Olivia Krolczyk a ‘zero’ on her final project proposal for using the term “biological woman” in Nipper’s class, Gender in Popular Culture. (snip) The incident that prompted the reprimand received national attention when Krolczyk posted a video on TikTok describing how Nipper gave her a failing grade because “biological woman” was, according to the professor, “trans-exclusionary.”

The abortion issue is taking a surprising turn in some states thanks to a number of religious groups arguing that red state restrictions violate their "religious freedom."
Pam Belluck, a health and science writer for The New York Times, emerged among those who brought the topic to the forefront, writing last week that Christian and Jewish groups in several states have filed lawsuits making the allegation that bans and restrictions "infringe on their faiths."
More specifically, the challenges stem from claims that the bans go beyond what these denominations view as reasonable restrictions.

Video footage appears to show UC Berkeley Law Dean Erwin Chemerinsky telling a class that he discriminates against potential faculty hires to boost racial diversity using what he called “unstated affirmative action.” The Dean tells his audience, “If ever I’m deposed, I’m going to deny I said this to you.”
“What I mean by ‘unstated affirmative action’ is, what if the college or university doesn’t tell anybody, doesn’t make any public statements?” Chemerinsky says at the beginning of the video.

Pope Francis has elevated Argentinian Archbishop Víctor Manuel Fernández, his longtime friend and ghostwriter, as new chief of the Vatican’s powerful doctrinal office.
Archbishop Fernández, who was Francis’ first episcopal appointment after becoming pope, is know as a theological progressive who penned several important texts for the pontiff, including his 2015 encyclical letter on the environment Laudato Sí and his controversial 2016 apostolic exhortation Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love).
Fernández has been a staunch supporter of Pope Francis and in 2018 sharply attacked a Vatican whistleblower who criticized Francis for enabling serial homosexual abuser Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.

The Supreme Court of the United States cited former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in the decision on Friday to strike down President Biden's student loan forgiveness plan.
"As then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi explained: 'People think that the President of the United States has the power for debt forgiveness. He does not. He can postpone. He can delay. But he does not have that power. That has to be an act of Congress,'" Roberts wrote.
The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that the Biden administration does not have the authority to unilaterally cancel hundreds of billions in student loan debt.

Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin has denied a correlation between homosexuality and clerical sex abuse, calling it a “serious and scientifically untenable association.”
(snip)
Bill Donohue, a sociologist and president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, has noted that regardless of his intentions, Cardinal Parolin is factually mistaken. The most extensive study ever undertaken of clerical sex abuse, conducted by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, found that a full 81 percent of victims of sexual abuse by priests were males.

The CEO of Bud Light’s parent company still won’t admit putting transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney’s picture on a can of beer was a mistake, despite an enormous backlash that has cost the brand its perch atop the market.
Brendan Whitworth, a Marine Corps veteran and ex-CIA employee, appeared Wednesday on CBS “This Morning,” where he called the backlash “divisive.” Bars, restaurants, and retail stores have reported the thirst for Bud Light bottomed out in April after Mulvaney released a TikTok video showing the custom can while celebrating 365 days of “being a woman.”

Democratic Rhode Island state Senator Joshua Miller, who police arrested last week for allegedly vandalizing a vehicle with a “Biden Sucks” sticker parked at an outdoor shopping area, reportedly faces additional charges after denying involvement in the incident to police.
On Thursday, Cranston Police charged Miller with vandalism and malicious injury to property after a suspect accused the lawmaker of “keying” an SUV in the Garden City Center parking lot. When confronted about the incident, Miller denied the accusation to the victim and authorities and was initially let go.
