Fort Bragg is renamed Fort Liberty to
honor the 'greatest American value' as
in U.S. Army's most prominent move to
erase Confederate names from bases

Fort Bragg, one of the largest military installations in the world, was renamed as Fort Liberty on Friday, dropping its Confederate namesake once and for all. It is the largest Army base by population to be renamed so far with around 29,000 people serving on the North Carolina base. A ceremony took place in which some veterans said agreed was a small but important step in making the U.S. Army more welcoming to current and prospective black service members. The North Carolina base was originally known as Camp Bragg and named in 1918 for Gen. Braxton Bragg, a Confederate general from Warrenton, North Carolina,

The worst thing Bill Clinton did (and there were plenty!) was to begin the promotion of the "political" Generals and Admirals—beginning with Wesley Clark. The military hierarchy has been on a downward spiral ever since.

Anything to make the military more welcome to blacks. Seriously : Was this a real problem? Did any black serving in the military ever care about who their base was named after. This isn't to make black soldiers feel better. This is to cater to black racist race baiting sons of Bewitches. Changing history the kiss buttocks.

There have always been weenies out there who want to change things just for the sake of change. I lost count of the number of Lieutenants that got Achievement Medals for rearranging the office or putting up a stop sign. I feel a lot more connection to a real Confederate soldier than some generic (and inaccurate) name meant to placate the rubes. In 1992 or so the Air Force changed its Senior NCO stripes and made the dress uniform look like a TWA pilot. Nobody knows why. Someone probably wrote themselves a promotion over it.

Fort Bragg has housed MANY of the greatest military heroes from WWII to just a day or two ago. It was an honor to be trained and stationed at Fort Bragg. Some guys went into the army to go there specifically. How many guys are gonna join up to serve at Fort Cupcake? I'm so glad my time on earth is so short. The goal of more black service members is not always a good thing. Ask any veteran who served under minority-dominated units. Skin color became more important than everything else. Favoritism and preferential treatment are practiced openly. Be careful what you wish for. Woke is more often broke than not. At least with white leadership, everybody is treated like a dog but it's fair. I don't know a lot about General Bragg but often the Confederate officers were better trained and more effective than their Union counterparts.

Just a stupid crock. Huge amounts of history was made at Fort Bragg, and these pandering, stupid fools just erase that. Not one in a million people knew that Ft. Bragg was named for a Confederate general, and not one in 10 million thought anything negative about it. But virulent, seething racist haters apparently run about 24/7 with their hair on fire looking for things to hate, frantically searching for things that "offend them". Fort Nuthin' to brag about... I was there just after 911, working on a contract, arrived , coincidentally, just as Bush's motorcade did one day. Perimeter was fully armed, bradleys at the gates...I was cleared in put had to wait for the motorcade to roll through. One van was pulled from the line, surrounded and barred entry...a press van. National media poutrage ensued. BUT...the reason they were pulled out was because they got huffy at the place where they embarked into the vans, refused the one they were assigned and demanded another more luxurious one...ALL of the motorcade vehicles had been pre-inspected/searched, that one had NOT, because it was not supposed to participate. They thought just switching the printed piece of paper from the windsheilds was sufficient, gate guards caught the difference between the sheet of paper and the plates. I fell in line behind the motorcade and flipped off the angry newsies as I followed it in.

I had two ggrandfathers who fought for the Confederacy and one who fought for the Union. As other posters have mentioned, no young blacks would know who Bragg was and damn few whites. Or, actually, any history at all. I had a young lady in my office many years. She saw my Sons of Confederate Veterans certificate and asked me if I had fought in that war! She didn’t have a clue of the dates of the war or even what century it occurred. That said, Bragg was not an outstanding general to say the least. After the war, General Joseph E. Johnston wrote, “ Jefferson Davis tried to do what even God could not do...make a soldier out of Braxton Bragg.”

Bragg was so disliked that his own troops tried to frag him - twice. His poor generalship is one of the reasons attributed to the United States’ victory in the Civil War. Perhaps that’s why the base was named for him in the first place- an honor he did not deserve. They should have renamed the base after Omar Bradley.

The aircraft was on its way to Long Island, New York, but once it reached its destination, it turned around and headed back to Washington DC, flight paths show. Taking time out of his busy schedule running Disney, Bob Iger flew to the Cannes film festival in support of Harrison Ford’s latest movie, even posting on social media snapshots of the aging action hero on the red carpet.
