One Michigan school official admitted his district’s move to using electric buses was less than the government has touted it to be. Emile Lauzzana, the environmental sustainability director of Michigan’s fourth-largest school district, recently told the Ann Arbor Public Schools Board of Education that the district’s electric bus fleet has had “a lot of downtime and performance issues.” It’s been a tough 2 1/2 years with this program,” Lauzzana said. “We’ve been learning a lot about this technology,” Lauzzana also said. “Electric buses are approximately five times more expensive than regular buses, and the electrical infrastructure, which was originally estimated

FTA: 'Last year, the Biden administration announced $17 million in grants to fund zero-emission electric school buses. ' After kickbacks and skimming, that wouldn't leave enough for a rudimentary 'feasibility study'. But no worries! Soon there will be '15 minute schools'. All the kids will live in high-rise rat cages, easy walking distance to their Young Pioneer Training Centers.

It hadn't occurred to me that a school district would have an environmental sustainability director. You know how that money will be spent, and it isn't on education.
On the other hand, no busses have become a Towering Inferno yet.

Any third grader could have told these idiots the electric bus idea was never going to work. The leftist brain disease is not getting any better,

Just think: Jennifer Granholm and Joe Biden plan to do this to all military vehicles in just 7 more years.

Wouldn't you think the "learning a lot" phase should have come prior to shoveling so much tax revenue into this program?

IOW, as long as taxpayers subsidize their foolhardiness, they’ll continue their experiment.

Electric vehicles are total crap. In 1973 my graduate research project was to research, design, build and test a hybrid-electric bus, along with three other grad students and a professor. We bought an electric city bus prototype and converted it to a hybrid vehicle after extensive computer studies, and tested it extensively.
I even followed a campus bus around a few days and picked up students and delivered them, following the same route.
Yep - electric buses are total crap. Batteries today are somewhat better, but still a total joke compared to a gasoline or diesel engine.
Give it up. I learned this almost 50 years ago, and all the "huge high tech improvements" (and there are much better controllers, batteries and more) haven't made much of a dent in the huge fundamental problems of electric vehicles.

"committed to the use of electric buses “as incentives became available.”
Meaning as long as they can milk the public for dollars.

Until there is a different type of energy besides gas and electricity, our leaders are spinning their wheels with electric vehicles.

Let's see how long they run at near or su zero temps. Then, better hope they don't burst into flames with a bunch of kids on board.

Left wing policies rarely stand up to any kind of cost/benefit analysis. There might be plenty of reasons to do it but saving money isn’t one of them.

Wait until the battery performance tanks in the winter when they have to heat the bus. If they don't, the kids will freeze as they ride home.

The whole electric bus program is heavily subsidized by taxpayers - so they plan to keep it going. But - it's been a horrible experience.
