Florida governor Ron DeSantis has secured a number of endorsements in New Hampshire and Iowa in recent days, as well as key endorsements in his home state of Florida as he is expected to soon join the 2024 presidential race.
DeSantis made headlines over the weekend as he interacted one-on-one with voters in Iowa, shedding his reputation as a leader who struggles with retail politicking. He made an unscheduled appearance in Des Moines at a barbecue joint on Saturday while former president Donald Trump, the frontrunner, canceled his own rally in Des Moines that day because of “severe weather.” The optics were a win for DeSantis, who also announced the endorsements

Gee, I didn’t know that having a preference for a
particular 2024 nominee was forbidden. A primary is not a coronation for one man. Some people prefer Trump. Others prefer DeSantis. I think either would be a great president. I’ll vote for the one most likely to beat Biden. If my primary choice isn’t the winner I’ll certainly vote for the one who did. To do otherwise would be insane.

Ditto, #4. If DeSantis happens to get the nomination, the people who would never vote for him must love how Biden is destroying the country.

There are still a number of conservatives who firmly believe that Trump cannot be Biden, hence the support for DeSantis.

I would expect these endorsements come from the Never Trumpers who have been lined up beforehand. This is their media moment.

Not meant as an insult towards Desantis, but any GOP who endorses him fears Trump. The system is corrupt, the players are corrupt, and Trump exposed them.

National Review is a an establishment propaganda outlet. The only thing I learned from the article is that the establishment is 100% against Trump, MAGA and the people and they are relentlessly pushing DeSantis as the ONE. To all the Republicans who say, well if it’s a choice between DeSantis and Biden,….blah, blah, blah, blah and you need to vote for DeSantis. I say, screw you! It’s not a choice if it’s two establishment puppets like Biden and DeSantis. Trump is an independent who uses the Republican Party platform. He’s not a Republican and neither are most of us who suport him. The Republican Party is BIG part of the problem. The Republican Party is NOT the solution.

DeSantis is my governor and has done a great job, his stand against wokeness is outstanding. Do I support him for president no. After the Durham report, which brings to light the total and complete corruption of our government, we will need one tough SOB to clean this out. I said DeSantis is a great governor, but he has a friendly political environment. He has never been tested in a hostel environment, this is not the time to experiment. I don't condemn DeSantis working with the establishment, but it does make me wonder what he really believes. My grandmother always said "show me your company, and I'll tell you who you are".

Did DeSantis ever formally announce that he is running for President? If so, I missed it. This coy little game he is playing is not very presidential which some of you on here hold in high esteem. Each day I am reminded what a disappointment he is. Either announce or shut up. What advantage does he think he is gaining with this strategy? I know he had to wait until the legislature made it legal for him to run which is a totally weaselly thing to do. How about you Floridians, what do you think of his promise now to serve out his full term? That’s one stand up guy you’ve got there. It’s his prerogative how he proceeds but he is doing himself no favors with this behavior.
Of course no one should be anointed the nominee, but when the first place guy is way ahead and gaining momentum, why would you put yourself out there especially in this political atmosphere. He is being pushed to damage the leading nominee, not to win. That’s the way these guy roll. His backers are content with either guy, Democrat or Republican because they make money either way. If you want another bought guy, then DeSantis is your guy. I want someone I can trust won’t sell me out. It’s as simple as that. If you can be bought your loyalty goes to the highest bidder. No thanks.
#4, I guess you can call me insane because I will not vote for DeSantis. I am so done with voting for the guy who is being supported by people who revile me. Sure, they want my vote but they do nothing for me and millions like me who vote hoping they will do what they say they will. I am leaving the GOPe plantation. The Rinos treat the base like scum and merely tolerate us for the sole purpose of getting what they want. Here’s a tip, we are a three party system. You’ve got democrats and then there are two distinct divisions in the Republican Party. One is the base with massive numbers but without the cash and influence of number two which is the GOPe who don’t have the numbers or the trust of the people but they do have the money and power. Right now, it’s up in the air as to who has the juice to win, I do believe we have the upper hand simply because our candidate, PDT has the people’s trust. Furthermore, I will not be shamed into voting for anyone I do not trust. Isn’t that the very definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results? Come on! I am not playing that game. If the ship is going down, I am going to stay onboard with the guy who proved he could do the job rather than jump ship with someone who is untrustworthy. For me, this is the hill to die on.

Forget the National Review story about who is endorsing DeSantis. (I would say forget the NR entirely, who showed their hand in 2016 with their “Against Trump” special issue.)
The significant story today is about DeSantis and the Kentucky primary for governor.
Trump endorses Daniel Cameron, who wins with 45 percent of the vote. DeSantis’ choice, Kelly Craft, comes in third, with 17 percent. I read this morning that Craft’s polling went DOWN after the DeSantis endorsement, which he didn’t make until the last minute.
And to build on the point in #17, DeSantis ignored the Jacksonville mayor while indulging in a last-minute flex for the Kentucky race. Misplaced priorities much?
Trump’s polling has consistently risen since January. DeSantis has consistently declined. What does that tell us? The DeSantis people say once he declares he is running, Trump supporters will stampede to support him, and DeSantis will dominate the polling. I think otherwise.

Thanks again, poster # 16 for putting on paper what many of us are thinking.
I support Trump for one reason, he is the only candidate in my lifetime who actually did exactly what he said he was gonna do when elected (even moreso than Reagan). We all saw how the deep state reacted by stealing the 2020 election, not to mention the 2022 election. IMHO, the 2022 Red Wave was real until the fix kicked in. The results in Florida in 2022 should've been repeated in other states, but those "other" states didn't have stringent election laws like Florida.
DeSantis, who may be a very good governor, has already aroused suspicion by promising the voters of Florida he was gonna finish out his term, but did the incredibly duplicitous move of having the legislature change the rules. THAT right there ought to tell everything one needs to know about him. Besides, the bushes, grahams, and mcconnells of the world are pushing DeSantis. THAT ought to be a huge warning to anyone with any sanity or sense.

#16 Reminded me of what former head of Project Veritas, James O'Keefe, said this week. He talked to
a top person at Fox News (about Tucker's firing) and the conversation went this way; "you report what
your donors tell you to report." O'Keefe said No, that's not the way I do it. No one tells me what to say.
That's the problem with most politicians. They are not their own man/woman. They are speaking or
saying what or whoever is giving the money/backing.

I forgot to add that this is all about control. It looks like Gov. DeSantis is being controlled or groomed by the
Bush crowd...i.e. Karl Rove and others. And we all know that President Trump doesn't like to be controlled by
any outside group.

DeSantis was running around Europe while Jacksonville was turned over to a BLM loyalist! Florida did NOT re elect him to ignore Florida and run for President. Tell Rove to go back to Texas. At 44 years old, he has plenty of time to run for President. And now that we KNOW that the Deep State stole the 2020 election from Pres Trump, it is time to put him in for 4 more. This is unconscionable that Republicans are running against him after what they know. They should hang their heads in shame but their egos have overcome their sense.

Well said, # 4.
The vitriol aimed at Governor DeSantis on this board is very disheartening. That Sundance character has truly poisoned the well.
Some hard calculations will have to be made as we go down the road, As a Floridian would I be disappointed if DeS goes back on his campaign promise? Kinda sorta, but I am a realist. Senator Ron Johnson (WI) reneged on his promise not to run for a third term, and aren't we all glad he did? Would anyone here rather have seen another communist in the U.S. Senate?
I hope that people here will take a deep breath and wait to see how the primaries unfold. The rank & file GOP electorate is a fairly diverse (in the honest sense of the word). Believe it or not, there are many good folks out there who don't want to relive the drama of the Trump years. and are looking for fresh face.
MAGA is a key part of the GOP constituency but it is not the whole ball game, as some here may ardently wish it were.
Again, let us see how things play out and focus on the common enemy without being distracted by some conspiracy nut on the internet.
