Stanford Law Dean Jenny Martinez released a detailed letter Wednesday criticizing the students who heckled federal judge Kyle Duncan and announcing that DEI administrator Tirien Steinbach, who interrupted his lecture, is now on leave. Martinez declined to submit to calls that she retract her letter of apology to Duncan and emphasized that Stanford’s speaker disruption policy was violated by both students and administrators. At an event hosted by Stanford’s Federalist Society earlier this month, Duncan, who sits on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, was expecting to give a wide-ranging lecture on recent decisions that Court had handed down. President Biden's mandate that about 3.5 million federal employees get vaccinated against COVID-19 was blocked by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday.
The president originally issued the executive order in September 2021, requiring workers to be vaccinated unless they have a medical or religious exemption.
U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Brown issued an injunction blocking the mandate in January 2022, but a three-judge panel on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated the mandate last April. On Thursday, 10 of the 5th Circuit's 16 judges reversed that decision, ruling that there is no constitutional basis for requiring federal employees to be vaccinated.
Former President Donald Trump definitively leads President Joe Biden among likely voters in a potential 2024 matchup, a McLaughlin poll found Thursday.
Forty-eight percent of respondents said they supported Trump, while only 43 percent supported Biden — a 5-point spread.
With the 2024 general election 20 months away, Trump also leads Biden in battleground states. A majority of 51 percent supported Trump, while only 41 percent backed Biden.

WASHINGTON — The Manhattan district attorney investigating Donald Trump rebuffed House Republicans' request Thursday for documents and testimony about the case, dismissing it as an "unprecedented inquiry" with no legitimate basis.
In a letter obtained by The Associated Press, the general counsel for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg slammed the congressional request as "an unlawful incursion into New York's sovereignty."
"The Letter only came after Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested the next day and his lawyers reportedly urged you to intervene," Leslie Dubeck wrote in the letter. "Neither fact is a legitimate basis for congressional inquiry."
