WASHINGTON — Federal prosecutors disclosed Wednesday that a witness expected to testify for the defense at the seditious conspiracy trial of former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio and four associates was secretly acting as a government informant for nearly two years after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, a defense lawyer said in a court filing. Carmen Hernandez, a lawyer for former Proud Boys chapter leader Zachary Rehl, asked a judge to schedule an immediate emergency hearing and suspend the trial “until these issues have been considered and resolved.” Lawyers for the other four defendants joined in Hernandez’s request. Hernandez said in court papers that the defense team

Meadows, other top Trump aides ordered

A federal judge has rejected former President Donald Trump's claims of executive privilege and has ordered Mark Meadows and other former top aides to testify before a federal grand jury investigating Trump's efforts to overturn the election leading up to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, multiple sources familiar with the matter tell ABC News. Meadows, Trump's former chief of staff, was subpoenaed along with the other former aides by Special counsel Jack Smith for testimony and documents related to the probe. Trump's legal team had challenged the subpoenas by asserting executive privilege, which is the right of a president to keep confidential the communications he has with advisers.

I’ve given Politico a lot of crap lately, so I think it’s time to give them some props. Not major props, but praise nonetheless. I ran across this story the other day, and with the exception of some unnecessary digs at the Bad Orange Man, the story was worth reading. By now attacking Trump is just a tic the MSM can’t avoid, so it’s hard to blame them in this instance. It’s unconscious, like scratching an itch. Or perhaps the Trump obsession is like smoking was back in the day–everybody they know does it and nobody thinks much about it. The story, written by Josh Kerstein and Kyle Cheney, details

The House passed legislation on Friday to create a Parents Bill of Rights that would require schools to publish their curricula publicly and to share with parents a list of books and other materials that are available in school libraries. The bill, which passed in a 213-208 vote, would also require schools to allow parents to meet with their children’s teachers and to alert parents when violence occurs on campus. The measure would also give parents a voice when schools create or update policies and procedures surrounding student privacy. In response to the National School Boards Association’s effort to have the Biden administration crack down on parent protesters

Sharp declines in banking shares in Europe have renewed concerns that the panic triggered by the collapse of two US banks and rushed takeover of Swiss giant Credit Suisse may not be easily contained. Shares in Germany's Deutsche Bank fell by 14% at one point on Friday, with other lenders also seeing big losses. London's FTSE 100 ended the day down 1.3%, while stock markets in Germany and France dropped even more sharply. Falls were less severe in the US. But shares in financial firms, including giants such as JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs, weighed on the indexes, which were all trading lower around mid-day in New York. In Europe, the banks hit

Riley June Williams has been sentenced to three years in prison along with three years of supervised release and a $2,000 fine. You’re to be forgiven if you’ve never heard of Ms. Williams since she isn’t exactly a household name, but she was one of the rioters who went into the Capitol Building on January 6, 2021. She was just 22 years old at the time. Prosecutors had done their best to throw the book at the young woman, asking for more than seven years in prison. Her attorney requested one year and one day. The judge apparently felt that three years was a compromise. But as with

Iran proxy forces launched about seven rockets targeting a U.S. base in Northeast Syria today in retaliation to the U.S., a defense official confirms to Fox News. In first assessments, there are no U.S. casualties and no damage to the base near the Al-Omar oil field. The rocket attacks came after President Biden ordered a series of retaliatory strikes after a suspected Iranian-made drone killed a U.S. contractor and wounded six other Americans on Thursday. U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement that the American intelligence community had determined the drone was of Iranian origin, but offered no other immediate evidence to support the claim

Oil companies have come under increasing legal scrutiny and face allegations of defrauding investors, racketeering, and a wave of other lawsuits. But a new paper argues there’s another way to hold big oil accountable for climate damage: trying companies for homicide. The striking and seemingly radical legal theory is laid out in a paper accepted for publication in the Harvard Environmental Law Review. In it, the authors argue fossil fuel companies “have not simply been lying to the public, they have been killing members of the public at an accelerating rate, and prosecutors should bring that crime to the public’s attention”.

I am starting to believe chasing Ron DeSantis the Nazi Bogeyman is the only thing keeping the Miami Herald alive right now. Do they even write about anything else? Woof – you’d be hard-pressed to find something. The Herald DeSantis outrage du jour on the blackboard is: He vaporized healthcare equity Healthcare ‘equity’ was a Florida priority until the DeSantis administration erased it And, yes, you read that correctly. In 2017, when Florida Department of Health officials crafted their once-every-five-years list of state health goals, they published what was then a noncontroversial top priority: improving health equity.
Biden's vaccine mandate for federal workers

President Biden's mandate that about 3.5 million federal employees get vaccinated against COVID-19 was blocked by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday. The president originally issued the executive order in September 2021, requiring workers to be vaccinated unless they have a medical or religious exemption. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Brown issued an injunction blocking the mandate in January 2022, but a three-judge panel on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals reinstated the mandate last April. On Thursday, 10 of the 5th Circuit's 16 judges reversed that decision, ruling that there is no constitutional basis for requiring federal employees to be vaccinated.

Joe Biden has been getting worse. Even though they’ve largely just had him doing ceremonial-type things, like the recognition of Women’s History Month, he still can’t seem to get through even the simplest event without issues. When he had the Women’s History event on Wednesday, he made some bizarre comments about his wife Jill and LGBTQ people, as we reported. He talked about Jill being the “first full-time lady.” He also said that she left what sounds like a sad note for him on his mirror saying “stop trying to make me love you.” Yikes. Then he also made a weird remark when he was trying to pander to the groups

WASHINGTON — The Manhattan district attorney investigating Donald Trump rebuffed House Republicans' request Thursday for documents and testimony about the case, dismissing it as an "unprecedented inquiry" with no legitimate basis. In a letter obtained by The Associated Press, the general counsel for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg slammed the congressional request as "an unlawful incursion into New York's sovereignty." "The Letter only came after Donald Trump created a false expectation that he would be arrested the next day and his lawyers reportedly urged you to intervene," Leslie Dubeck wrote in the letter. "Neither fact is a legitimate basis for congressional inquiry."

A team of election experts in New Mexico uncovered an election system that is being used in that state and multiple other states that do not comply with election laws. Election experts in New Mexico established that the post-election canvass reports in all 33 New Mexico Counties are being illegally prepared. Complete election records are being uploaded to an uncertified, centralized software under the control of the Secretary of State (SOS) called SERVIS, which is then used to create the official election results. Use of any uncertified software for this part of the election process is a violation of federal and state law.
