Jackson pens solo dissent as Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Monday struck down a federal court ruling upholding the right for a minor to go to court to get permission to undergo an abortion, with Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson penning a solo dissent in the case. The ruling from the court on Monday vacated a lower court ruling that a state court clerk could be sued for telling a pregnant teenager that the court must notify her parents of her attempt to get a court order to allow her to obtain an abortion without the consent of her parents. Jackson’s dissent focused on the use of Munsingwear vacatur, in which a case is vacated

Affirmative Action Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson (what language is her name derived from?) made Supreme Court History by using a crayon to pen her dissent. This commie disgrace is not qualified to preside over a Traffic Court!

I wonder if her "Munsingwear vacatur" jurisprudence might have taken a different tack had she not wanted someone to be sued for refusing an abortion?

Without even touching on her legal arguments, look at this writing. The number of metaphors she mixes together is actually somewhat impressive. This is a US Supreme Court Justice writing a published dissent. She has law clerks. Oh wait- she hired them for diversity, not on merit.

I am confused. So you shouldn't wear Munsingwear? #1, I love knowing what names mean and where they come from, but I have pretty much given up on contemporary American Black names, as so many are just strings of sounds that the parent thought sounded good together. Apparently, Jackson's name was chosen from a list “sent by an aunt who was serving in the Peace Corps in West Africa.” Fully, her name is "Ketanji Onyika" which means "lovely one" in one (or more) of the "West African languages." So although Jackson's name may not be used as a name in whatever language it came from (it would be nice to know which one), I applaud her parents in giving her a name that has meaning, and has significance to her family. (BTW, this is how true names are formed - they have a meaning and a personal significance that the parents want to pass on to their child. You can find the meaning of virtually all names. Except the name "Cassandra" - no, it does not mean "prophetess"; she was just the first known person with the name. But the sounds do sound good together.)

Some years ago there was an internet site with suggested names for black boys and girls. Although some had roots/meaning in Africa, most were madeups. And the owner of the site encouraged prospective parents (most likely mothers) to create distinctive names for their babies.

Well, gee. Didn’t we predict this during her confirmation hearings - that a justice who could not define what a woman is could not possible rule on abortion related cases? Once again, us conspiracy theorists were right.

Jackson is a loser, and is in no way qualified for the Supreme Court. She is only there for racism and political reasons, totally unqualified.

When I wrote about Rebekah Jones’ son’s arrest I relied upon the reporting of the Journal for the facts of the case. I chose to do so despite there being a Miami Herald story because it was biased and left out the most important point: he wasn’t arrested for sharing memes, as they claimed, but for making threats to shoot up a school. That’s a bit different. The Herald is still soft-pedaling the story and pushing the notion that Jones is being persecuted somehow. And Jones is tweeting up a storm with an ever-changing story. It is a remarkable example of gaslighting, and the Herald is crying about being criticized

In columns over the years, and on countless media appearances in which I’m asked for my opinion about various California Democrats seeking higher office, I’ve consistently made the observation that California Democrats have a very tough time getting traction outside of the state because they’ve never been challenged on their positions or been held accountable by the media in any way. They don’t even need to give campaign speeches or long-form interviews because at this point they don’t need to. So, like Kamala Harris, once the rest of the country gets to see what they’re all about, they’re not fans.

A federal judge in Texas on Friday ruled to suspend the abortion drug mifepristone, which was approved by regulators 23 years ago and has now become one of the most common methods of abortion in the country. U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk ruled to suspend the FDA's approval of mifepristone. The ruling is paused for seven days so the federal government may appeal. Kacsmaryk, a Trump appointee, held a hearing on the issue on March 15 in Amarillo, Texas, where the conservative plaintiffs in the case argued the Food and Drug Administration was wrong to approve mifepristone.

Democrat state representatives switching parties and one special election over the last month gave Republicans three new supermajorities in state legislatures, bringing the total to 25 nationwide. This week, North Carolina state Rep. Trisha Cotham announced her departure from the Democrat party and effectively changed her party affiliation to the Republican Party, ultimately giving the Republicans in the Tar Heel State a veto-proof supermajority in both the House and Senate. “The party wants to villainize anyone who has free thought, free judgment, has solutions and wants to get to work to better our state,” Cotham said during a press conference announcing her decision to formally leave the Democrat party.

I recently reviewed the results of the mayoral election in Chicago, which appear to have sounded the death knell for America’s third-largest city. The buildings will remain and the people without the means to escape will still huddle in their homes (at least those who have homes), hoping to avoid being the next statistic in a crime wave that shows no signs of abating. Commerce has slowed to a crawl and its once-famous entertainment district is now too dangerous for most to risk an evening out on the town. At the Washington Examiner, Stephen Moore takes a similarly dim view of Chicago’s prospects, but he notes

President Biden blasted the expulsion of two Tennessee lawmakers Thursday as “shocking” and “undemocratic,” saying that GOP lawmakers chose to expel lawmakers instead of participating in a discussion about gun reforms. “Last week, three more students and three school officials were gunned down in yet another tragic mass shooting in Nashville,” Biden said in a statement. “On Monday, 7,000 Tennesseans, many of them students, marched to their state capitol to call on their lawmakers to take action and keep them safe.” “Instead, state Republican lawmakers called votes today to expel three Democratic legislators who stood in solidarity with students and families and helped lift their voices,” he continued.

Ten days after a shooter unloaded 152 rounds inside a Nashville school and killed six people, Tennessee House Republicans on Thursday expelled from the General Assembly two Democratic lawmakers for breaking House rules and mounting a gun-reform protest on the chamber's floor. After hours of fiery debate, the House expelled Reps. Justin Jones, D-Nashville, on a 72-25 vote, and Rep. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s recent demands for greater control over public education—and students’ bodies—in the guise of “parent’s rights” accelerates this conflict, rejecting the importance of learning as a public good in itself in favor of promoting conformity and uncritical thinking. As a historian of fascism and Italian fascist education, I find the moves to exert more power over education disturbingly familiar.
