Trump’s Real Crime Is Opposing Empire

Original Article

Posted By: NYC Ral, 4/8/2023 8:03:22 AM

Within 24 hours of former President Donald Trump’s arrest on 34 overhyped felony counts related to hush-money payments made to conceal an extramarital dalliance, his re-election campaign raised $4 million, and he widened his lead in the Republican primaries to almost 30 percentage points. Yet a CNN poll also found that 60 percent of Americans approve of the indictment. These numbers are probably less important than they might appear. The trial will likely mobilize the base in both parties and pull swing voters in both directions—for a net effect of zero.

Comments:

Be it Red or Blue Career Politicians, they need to be replaced. Any long term office holder looses sight of reality and leans toward service for self and not their constituents, Find one able to tell you the price of a gallon of milk, a pound of ground beef and a five pound bag of rice. Along with a valid resume and check-able references should give them a chance to get on the ballot come election time. TERM LIMITS limit the trash existing in DC, the State capitals and our City Halls.

Where the hell did CNN find a group of people who would say they approve of this crazed indictment by 60%.?

"made to conceal an extramarital dalliance" - No, there was no affair. This was an outrageous claim made to extort a payment from Donald Trump, a claim made by a former porn star and a crooked attorney. She got exactly what she was after, a large payment and a lot of fame.

I would love for some of the law professors who are TV commentators to weigh in on how they would have graded Alvin Bragg's "indictment." It looks to me, as a layperson, like Bragg repeatedly used the same "crime" to come up with pages and pages of similar words, in the hope of making it appear that he had actually done his homework. Perhaps he is not familiar with having his work put under a microscope, did not expect to have it evaluated so publicly by his peers, and therefore took shortcuts that ended up undermining his case.

I have always held that the main reason the Uniparty and the deep state was against Trump was exactly this. Trump cares more about what is happening in Circleville, Ohio than he cares about who runs Syria.

FTA: "Trump isn’t an anti-imperialist in the left-wing sense. Rather, he is an instinctual America-First isolationist who seems to harbor genuine disdain for global elites and policy insiders." Here's a question: What is the central idea guiding American foreign policy? The closest thing I can find is the misguided idea that the United States is "Leader of the Free World." What is that? Who's following? So many "conservatives" are looking, for example, to intervene in Ukraine far beyond the billions already given away. We already have elite combat troops in Romania cooling their heels. There are around 4,000 U.S. soldiers with the 101st Airborne Division stationed there now. Previously parts of the 82nd Airborne were dispatched as "quick-response". We may have "advisors" in Ukraine. And for what? To further degrade a past enemy that has very little conventional power to project? Above that, our feckless NATO allies essentially stand by becasue that's all they can do, having reduced their own defense forces significantly while depending on the United States to pick up the slack - which we've historically done with a smile. And, in the meantime, NATO adds more freeloaders to the roster with Finland and Sweden, neither even topping two percent of GDP with their defense budgets. The Cold War with the Soviets in OVER. We keep fighting it, as we always fight the last war. The Chinese, meanwhile, eat our lunch fighting the "new war" of technology thievery, capital investment and economic alliances. Much cheaper than troops, and today more effective. Their Belt and Road has invested a pittance in over 140 countries spanning the globe, both buying friends and turning a profit for them. The US just can't fathom that sort of fight.

"Trump's real crime is opposing empire" Yeah, but the question becomes which empire(s)? - The open border empire? - The climate change empire? - The social justice empire? - A real empire, like the Chinese empire? - Maybe this was a just a demonstration to show they can take down a powerful President and Trump never really kicked anyone's hornets' nest.

To respond to #9, the United States is no longer great in the eyes of many but it is better than anything else out there. Those who visit most other countries, whether it be for business purposes or military duty soon begin to miss their home with all of its scars and pathetic leadership. Corruption is worldwide, authoritarian government keeps people under somebody's thumb and opportunities belong to the elites and their friends and families. The ones who hate us most do it out of envy for how relatively good we have it. We still have a chance to pull ourselves out of this swamp and I will continue to support that effort.

#13 - I travel internationally extensively and lived overseas for several years. I visited the East bloc in the bad old days. There are very few countries that "hate" us, most happy to take advantage of our good will. Frankly, most really don't give a damn. That said, what's your point? Mine is very simple. We need to come to grips with the modern world, starting with Europe. After 75 years of "occupation" WW2 and the Cold War are over. Our "allies" have used the US as its military, effectively freeloading to support their social programs rather than defense. That must end. As the article clearly points out, Trump was trying to pull us out of that swamp...then here comes Ukraine, Finland, Sweden, Taiwan...more opportunity to get American troops involved on foreign shores.

#9 "What is the central idea guiding American foreign policy?" For several decades and especially in its current Neocon iteration, it's the installation of the "International Rules-Based Order". Or more appropriately, the imposition of a Thugocracy. "Do as we say, or we'll destroy you." Because we have a Republic, our politicians are bought off by a variety of factions that have a variety of reasons to have the awesome power of the US/NATO operate as their own protection racket.

The Catholic Archdiocese for the Military Services is accusing Walter Reed National Military Medical Center of denying Catholic service members and veterans their right to practice their religion after it canceled a contract for pastoral care and issued a "cease and desist" order to a community of Catholic priests just days before Holy Week. The Catholic archdiocese says in a statement that Walter Reed issued the order against Holy Name College Friary, a Franciscan community of priests and brothers that has served at the center for nearly 20 years. Instead, it says the contract for Catholic Pastoral Care was terminated at the end of March.

Hackensack — When the USS Ling made the voyage from the Brooklyn Navy Yard to its current resting place along the bank of the Hackensack River 50 years ago this month, the Sunday Record heralded its arrival with a front-page headline: “Ling docks with flying colors.” The story described the World War II submarine’s seven-hour, 20-mile journey across the New York and Newark bays and up the Hackensack River as jubilant, with “whistles blasting into the chill air and flags flapping in winds that whipped across the bay.”

The draft opinion is a full-throated, unflinching repudiation of the 1973 decision which guaranteed federal constitutional protections of abortion rights and a subsequent 1992 decision – Planned Parenthood v. Casey – that largely maintained the right. “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito writes. “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,”

Authorities have upped charges against five people accused of burglarizing the USS Ling in Hackensack, who are now charged with flooding the historic submarine during two break-ins last summer, allegedly causing damage in the hundreds of thousands, according to the submarine’s trustees. An eight-count indictment from July 9 added counts of conspiracy and knowingly causing a flood, both second-degree crimes, to the burglary and criminal mischief charges the five so-called urban explorers faced for allegedly stealing artifacts from the WWII-era vessel. Police initially declined to charge the group with flooding the Ling with 10 feet of water during the alleged burglaries, citing insufficient evidence on when the flooding occurred.

Overnight, the explosive accusations blew up in the national press, but the details kept changing. Initially, McCarthy said he had a list with the names of 205 communists in the State Department; the next day he revised it to 57. Since he kept the list a secret, the inconsistencies were beside the point. The point was the power of the accusation, which made McCarthy’s name synonymous with the politics of the era.
