Poland to transfer MiG-29 jets to Ukraine

Polish President Andrzej Duda said the nation is set to hand over PolSoviet-made MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine in coming days. "In the coming days we will first transfer, if I remember correctly, four fully operational planes to Ukraine," Duda told a news conference in Warsaw. Duda said that Poland's air force would replace the planes it gives to Kyiv with South Korean-made FA-50 jets and American-made F-35s. The transfer would make Poland the first NATO member to have delivered the fighter jets, as Kyiv appeals for warplanes to fight Russian forces.

Good news. The air environment within around 100 miles of the combat front is extremely deadly above maybe 200 ft, so there is no way any aircraft are able to just fly around at middle altitudes and survive for any length of time. Farther to the rear, these aircraft can be used to potentially shoot down these 'suicide drones' that the Russians have been using to target civilian infrastructure far away from the combat zones. We normally get "air dominance" by destroying all the enemy's anti-aircraft missiles, and then all their fighter aircraft. Then we can roam the skies freely, supporting the ground forces. Neither Russia or Ukraine has anything like the broad spectrum capabilities required to do "air dominance", so near the front lines both Russian and Ukrainian aircraft are at huge risk except at extremely low altitudes "under the radars"....and away from the range of the various SAM batteries that both sides have. Very different than the way we would fight.

Inching closer to World War III. We need a peace plan, through a stronger president. We have weakness and wokeness everywhere from the DOD, administration, SOS, Chief of Staff…. Everywhere weakness, I pray we can make it to January 20, 2025.

Supplying Poland with F35s, as the article stated, is a bad idea. The U.S. pushing out to many countries its cutting edge technology virtually ensures that the Russians and/or Chinese will get the opportunity to study and reverse engineer our top of the line fighter and enter the communists arsenal. Were it not for stealing and replicating our military technology, both China and Russia would still be flying their 50s-era homegrown pieces of garbage, vulnerable to our c. 1940s Mustangs and Corsairs. Why not give Poland some of our retired F-16s that were studied and copied decades ago.

The Ukrainians, like the Palestinians, learned early on to hide weapons in civilian infrastructure, and then cry war crimes when that infrastructure was hit, all complete with horrific pictures, just for the media. We’re not stupid. We have seen all this before. US out of Ukraine. Now.

It's an Eastern European war so Poland arming Ukraine makes sense. US not so much. Besides, Ukraine pilots, if there are many experienced ones stiill alive, are familiar with Mig 29 but I doubt there is enough time to train them in the F16 to be effective against experienced Russian pilots and missiles before this conflict reaches a conclusion.

President Joe Biden and his many defenders have a penchant for blaming the many catastrophes that have happened on his watch on somebody or something else. Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, China, the Taliban, MAGA Republicans and greedy corporations. Take your pick. According to the commander in chief, he bears no responsibility for the past 26 months. The buck apparently doesn’t stop in the Biden Oval Office. But when it comes to the economy, and, in particular, inflation, Biden can’t run away from reality.

The lawsuit filed against Fox News by Dominion Voting Services, set to go to trial on April 17, may turn out to be a seminal case in First Amendment jurisprudence, with effects that reach well beyond Fox. In a nutshell, Dominion charges that Fox defamed them by putting on air people who claimed that Dominion’s voting machines yielded incorrect results, to the benefit of Joe Biden. More than this, the plaintiffs have secured, through depositions, evidence that Fox News hosts and news executives themselves disbelieved the claims their on-air guests were making. For all that, the irony surrounding this case abounds. If Americans have learned anything during the past six years

When Constantinople finally fell to the Ottomans on Tuesday, May 29, 1453, the Byzantine Empire and its capital had up to that point survived for 1,000 years beyond the fall of the Western Empire at Rome. Always outnumbered in a sea of enemies, the Byzantines' survival had depended on its realist diplomacy of dividing its enemies, avoiding military quagmires, and ensuring constant deterrence. Generations of self-sacrifice ensured ample investment for infrastructure. Each generation inherited and improved on singular aqueducts and cisterns, sewer systems, and the most complex and formidable city fortifications in the world.

The City Council of Washington, D.C., recently approved legislation to reduce penalties for violent crimes, despite a recent surge of murders, carjackings, and robberies in the city. It was in keeping with similar measures approved in recent years in cities around the country to defund the police, reduce cash bail, and eliminate penalties for minor crimes like shoplifting and drug possession. Congress rightly overruled the measure under the city's home rule charter, but it was a sign of what's to come from D.C. city government.

According to Drenton, maintaining a clean, organized home equates to “sexist” and “racist” behavior, because most people who post “pantry porn” are white women (via the Conversation): Cleanliness has historically been used as a cultural gatekeeping mechanism to reinforce status distinctions based on a vague understanding of “niceness”:
