Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California was hospitalized in recent days with shingles and is now being treated in her hometown of San Francisco, her office announced Thursday. Feinstein missed a key vote Wednesday when the Senate voted 50 to 46 to block a Biden administration rule allowing retirement fund managers to consider environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in investment decisions. She has also missed a pair of Senate Judiciary Committee hearings. 'I was diagnosed over the February recess with a case of the shingles. I have been hospitalized and am receiving treatment in San Francisco and expect to make a full recovery.

Pffffftttttttt Both represent reliably Blue states with treasoncrat governors. Any vacancies would be filled with a democrat appointment and the voters would dutifully re-elect them. Its only a problem in the short term, while they are absent and either haven't assumed room temperature or haven't resigned.

They never had a majority - technically. It's 49 R, 48 D, and 3 Ind. Independent is not a party, they are neither Dem nor Rep. The Indies 'caucus' with the Dems, how that is 'legal' I don't know. The Dems even let an Indie run for president - Sanders - under their banner. Seems hinky to me. The Indies should have no standing in party matters.

Feinstein poses as a moderate. Her mode is to grandstand by speaking out occasionally against democrat policies. Then after a few days, she backpedals. Feinstein is an anti-second amendment radical and a reliable vote for the democrat party line. What’s more, she employed a Chinese spy as a driver for almost 20 years. I see nothing to like about Feinstein.

Hospitalized for shingles? Is it because of her age? I had a horrendous case of shingles about 15 years ago and all it took to clear it up was steroids, antibiotics and time.

I'm surprised at the responses so far, which seem to minimize shingles. Everyone I've known who has had it has been in extreme misery and one friend (50-ish woman) had to be hospitalized for a week. My mother refused to be treated for it because all doctors everywhere are trying to kill people all the time. When the pain became so unbearable that even she decided to go to the ER, her eyes were already affected. Shortly afterwards she lost her hearing. I am no fan of DiFi but I don't wish illness on her. I am reluctant to get vaccinations but after watching friends and the mother go through it, I have gotten that vaccine. No side effects. Please don't minimize the potential damage shingles can do to you or your loved ones. Ramona (the Pest)

#20, You are correct in saying that a serious case can do some damage but in my experience, I only know one person who had it for more than a month and it affected the sciatic nerve causing extreme discomfort and difficulty in walking. However, "normal" shingles develops on the rib cage, causes pain and itching and lasts less than a month. When it arrives you never know which version you are going to get but the majority of people just soldier through it and usually don't even miss work. As for DiFi, why would she not use her Cadillac Healthcare provided by us taxpayers?

7, there is no such thing as a party in the constitution. They're a legal fabrication. They are private entities and not a legal constitutional part of the government. Each party sets their own rules and standards as to who can run, how primaries work, everything. Nothing says a party even has to have a primary. They can roll dice, do a coin toss, best darts player, anything they want to determine their own candidates for the real election. Once in office there is no constitutional thing known as a "caucus". That's just a group of individuals who have decided to declare their political union. Nothing more.

#32, I doubt that what you had was shingles. Did you have chicken pox as a kid? If not, you won’t get shingles. Also, shingles (at least in my case) produced blisters which were so painful that I didn’t even want air to touch them much less clothing. I had a band of them which started in the center of my chest and spread around to the center of my back and which was about 7 inches high. I got to the doctor quickly and, as I said in my post above, got steroids and antibiotics, and it took about a week for the blisters to go away, but my skin was splotchy for about 6 months.

San Francisco residents lined up at a city board meeting last night to share their full-throated support of a wide-eyed reparations plan that would award every black resident $5million, wipe their personal debt, guarantee $97,000 incomes for 250 years and $1 homes. But no one at the emotional meeting - where residents burst into song and begged to be made 'whole' - asked how the struggling, debt-addled city might pay for it. Reparations are being considered in various Democratic cities around America as a means of providing compensation to the descendants of enslaved African-Americans.

In his characteristically clumsy fashion, Old Joe Biden has revealed that former President Jimmy Carter has bestowed upon him a singular honor: “He asked me to do his eulogy — excuse me, I shouldn’t say that,” Biden said at a fundraiser in Rancho Santa Fe, California on Tuesday. When that day arrives, no matter how poorly Old Joe delivers what is certain to be a farrago of lies, half-truths, historical revisionism, and self-serving distortion, there will be a certain fitting aspect to the entire occasion: the previous holder of the title of Worst President in American History will be eulogized by the current holder of the title.

Some electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers are scrapping the AM radio from their cars, claiming safety concerns. Although conservative talk radio dominates AM radio ratings, it is also considered a critical safety tool, as it is one of the primary ways that federal, state, and local officials communicate with the public during natural disasters and other emergencies. Automakers such as Ford and Tesla have ditched the AM radio from their newer EV models, arguing that the motors on EVs interfere with AM frequencies, creating buzzing and signal fading, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

The US State Department has summoned Moscow's ambassador after a Russian fighter jet collided with an American Reaper drone over the Black Sea, downing and destroying the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). (Snip) Pentagon officials said the Russian fighters harassed the drone by dumping fuel on it and flying in front of it, before one Su-27 clipped the propeller of the $32 million drone, forcing it down over the Black Sea in a total loss of the unmanned aircraft.

After months of near-silence and innuendo, Florida Gov. and GOP presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis decided to speak about Ukraine, removing all doubt about his position. While his statement on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show makes a handful of valid points, it is ridden with a fundamental misunderstanding of the war and US geopolitical interests. First, the good. DeSantis is correct to criticize the Biden administration’s lack of clear objectives in its support for “as long as it takes,” which is a recipe for a long and intractable conflict — which Americans would be right to reject.

Republicans hold a dour outlook on the country and prioritize finding a 2024 nominee who shares their views on major issues over one with a strong chance to defeat President Joe Biden, according to a new CNN poll of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents conducted by SSRS. The survey suggests sharp divisions within the potential GOP electorate by age, education, ideology and geography, as well as between Donald Trump backers locked into their choice and a more movable group in search of an alternative. Just 30% of all Republicans and Republican-leaners say the country's best days are still ahead of it -- a dramatic shift from 2019, when Trump

Facebook-parent Meta plans to lay off another 10,000 workers, marking the second round of significant job cuts announced by the tech giant in four months. The latest layoffs, announced on Tuesday, come after Meta said in November that it was eliminating approximately 13% of its workforce, or 11,000 jobs, in the single largest round of cuts in the company's history. In a Facebook post Tuesday, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the job cuts will take place "over the next couple of months."
