Can Chicago finally turn things around?

Next week is the mayoral election in Chicago, and things are actually looking up a bit in my long-ago home town. Chicago has non-partisan elections for aldermen and mayor — which is good, because there are so many chumbolones: dim-witted Chicagoans who will vote for any Democrat, no matter how bad, like Soros-backed prosecutor Kim Foxx. The non-partisan races tend to break down by race, among white, black, and Hispanic candidates all scrambling to make the run-off. Last time, two black mayoral contenders made the run-off — the corrupt machine boss, Toni

No. Think Detroit. It'll take generations to fix what they broke once they hit rock bottom and decide to change. I don't expect my grand kids to live long enough to see that happen. Detroit took 40 years to even think about turning around. It's going to be a long ride to recovery.

Chicago politics could be a case-study in battered wife syndrome with "it's going to be different this time" as their refrain. Also, Chicago voters seem to exemplify the new definition of crazy as when you keep doing the same thing over and over again thinking the results will be different.

The author refers to Vallas as a "moderate Democrat", I'd say he's simply not as Marxist as other candidates. He showed his true colors last week when he made the statement that he wholeheartedly agreed with Pritzker that there's no place in Chicago for "right-wing extremist like Ron DeSantis". That was the least offensive part of his statement.

Forget about the stories about the Israeli judicial reforms. Its critics are exaggerating, but now we have another exaggeration about Israel floating up to the top of the news. Some Israelis – supposedly affiliated with a firm called Team Jorge – have been caught rigging elections. My first reaction to that was to remember that line in Casablanca where Captain Renault tells Rick, “I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here,” just as a waiter comes up to the captain, and says, “Your winnings, sir.”

Former President Trump ripped into Fox News on Tuesday over its coverage of the political ascendance of Florida Gov. This is one of the most amazing videos you will see, especially considering the noxious figure at the center of it. Angela Davis is one of most infamous communists in American history. For over five decades, she has advocated for the abolition of capitalism in America and for Marxist dictatorships around the globe. In addition to her communism, she was one of the founders of critical race theory, which teaches that white people are responsible for America’s sins and ongoing problems. Prominent critical race theorist Ibram X. Kendi has quoted her at length in his hate-filled books.

Sen. Once mum on the hot-button issue, the West Virginia Democrat has increasingly targeted the investment strategy that makes fighting climate change a top consideration. Mr. Manchin insisted to The Washington Times in a recent interview that his warning that ESG hurts energy security when geopolitical risks go ignored was “not criticizing ESG” or the responsibility to address climate change. But he has begun to sound more like his Republican colleagues who dub ESG “woke capitalism.”

It is now fashionable to deride our presidents as part of the woke deconstruction and desecration of America. Two of America’s most noble presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, whom Presidents’ Day honors most especially, are routinely scrutinized by the vandals running through our country and institutions. Why? The two most consequential presidents are the ones whom the woke despise most. Washington is the “Father” of the United States. But what America is he the father of? The America of liberty, the rule of law, and defender of freedom or the America of racism, white supremacy, and historical injustices? Likewise, Lincoln held the union together,

It is the year of the octogenarian. American TV viewers can find Patrick Stewart, 82, boldly going in a new series of Star Trek: Picard and 80-year-old Harrison Ford starring in two shows plus a trailer for the fifth installment of Indiana Jones. And a switch to the news is likely to serve up Joe Biden, at 80 the oldest president in US history, or Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the Senate, who turns 81 on Monday. But while action heroes are evergreen, the political class is facing demands for generational change.

Last year, the Biden administration caved to public outcry and disbanded its infamous Disinformation Governance Board under its “Disinformation Nanny,” Nina Jankowicz. Yet, as explored in a recent hearing (in which I testified), the Biden administration never told the public about a far larger censorship effort involving an estimated 80 FBI agents secretly targeting citizens and groups for disinformation. Now it appears that the administration also was partially funding an “index” to warn advertisers to avoid what the index deemed to be dangerous disinformation sites. It turns out that all ten of the “riskiest” sites identified by the Global Disinformation Index are popular with conservatives, libertarians and independents.

Earlier this week, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) cut ties with Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church. The influential Southern California-based congregation had been part of the SBC since its founding, but the denomination dismissed Saddleback over a decision that founding pastor Warren made shortly before he retired. In 2021, Warren ordained three women as pastors, which caused the SBC to consider disciplining the church or kicking it out of the denomination. One of those women, Stacie Wood, the wife of lead pastor Andy Wood, is a “teaching pastor.” On Tuesday, the SBC Executive Committee deemed Saddleback

It had been months since the president dared to answer questions aside from brief encounters with reporters outside the White House. Nightline is obviously friendly territory, and the questions were mostly mundane at best. Expecting Biden to consistently make contact with softballs is never a good bet, though. In a clip that was released on Saturday morning, the president was confronted with the comments from East Palestine Mayor Trent Conaway. In them, the mayor criticized the optics of Biden galavanting in Ukraine while still refusing to visit the ecological disaster area
